  • The US Government has settled it's lawsuit filed on Sept. 18th against the owners and operators of the ship that struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
The Dali is currently sailing to China for repairs following the collapse of the Key Bridge in Baltimore.

That's really good. This is a Start. It's definitely going to take a lot more than that little bit

As far as I saw yesterday when the news came out, this settlement was only for the clean up as you said, but it did not excuse them from being sued for the rest.... I may have misunderstood you but it sounded like you believed this was all they would need to account for.. Thank you for staying on top of the story Captain

Unfortunately all that money will go into the Governments accounts and not towards the rebuild of the Bridge!

I'm really impressed with the professionalism coming from all sides of this debacle. Never would have expected a settlement this important with so many moving parts, companies and jurisdictions involved to settled out with the US portion this quickly. Can't wait to see how the infrastructure portion pans out for Baltimore

It's a good start, but nowhere near enough. Thanks for keeping us informed as to what's going on with the Dali and the Sepalo Dock collapse.

Not to mention a class action from the community of Baltimore for time and costs caused by having to go the long way round.

The State of Maryland is going to lose the most money. There is a limit to how much insurance will cover. If the federal government doesn't help with funds for the bridge there won't be enough money to build a new one. I wonder if the victims families will sue the State of Maryland (in addition to the ship owners).

Guessing MV operators had separate insurance coverage in place that allowed this reimbursement to proceed quickly. Entire process will be a long road.

Great reporting, Captain Andy....are you considering a second career n journalism?
It is likely that we will only hear that there has been a settlement with the families of our 6 deceased MN brethren as the amounts of such settlements are usually kept on the DL...the numbers will likely be significant, though...also: I expect that there will also be similar settlements with each of our 2 surviving MN brethren

100-1 that the Feds allowed a 'clause' to prevent any other legal action taken against the ship for the rebuilding of the bridge. Yea, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early for a settlement.

I'm guessing this is just one of many lawsuits that are involved with the incident.

This seems like a pittance. The US government may know something that is not public. Restoring the area and building a new bridge will cost billions.

This is to reimburse the federal government for salvage/clean up costs that the US Government has already paid for. The State of Maryland is suing for money to build a new bridge.

So they paid, what, MAYBE 10% of the total cost of the disaster/repair/disruption?

i think the Dali is dead in the water of the south indian ocean, may they are riding the currents, latest location track i recieved, (not marinetraffic) was at 013° 20' 18" S / 090° 45' 12" E kind of way off course for China. that location is south west of the cocos islands by 424 miles. its been 4 days since marinetraffic got a location from the Dali. i'm gonna remember that date because it happened on my 47th wedding anniversary.

    • @OrioleBeagle
      @OrioleBeagle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That is a separate lawsuit by the State of Maryland.
