nice vid, looking at booking 417 soon its always seems to be the first run and the simplest of sections cause the most accidents, hope his knee gets sorted, I have recently recovered from a big one at FOD 2 broken ribs and shot wrists, all I can say is all my pads did the job on intial impact but my right elbow pad got ripped up my arm, it was a full pelt speed crash but I was just left with some gravel rash.
Damn, that sounds like a pretty horrid accident. Yeah wearing the right pads can definitely make a huge difference if you crash. I don’t leave home without them.
Great video man but oof, that crash! Hope the guy is doing okay. When we went earlier in the year it was during one of the heatwaves. When those trails are dry they can be lethal, especially the berms as they can be so loose. We had one guy in our group wipe out on the second berm of cheese roller due to this, cut his shin up pretty bad.
Yeah the trails were really dusty and sketchy in places. Chris's injury was pretty bad. The guys have been chatting to him and he is on the mend thankfully. Still not able to ride again yet though.
@@bikeandbeyond Going to FOD, I was quite surprised at the few idiots who didn't wear a helmet. Nasty accident that day also where someone had a head injury (wearing a helmet) and needed air ambulance to help them.
I'll rattle sideways over roots and slide about on loose, wet soil quite happily. But just can't get on with these smooth hardpack trail centre style surfaces especially with the loose gravel on top. Grip, grip, grip, nothing.. They hurt like hell when you land on them too, as you mate will attest.
Jees this brings back a bad memory from my crash here last year. Cheese roller is deceptively loose and very easy to pick up a lot of speed on! Wiped out big time on a berm half way down and got kidney shot by my saddle, couldn't even walk afterwards, not good.
Wow, that sounds horrid Rob! Yeah everything was really loose at 417. We worked out that Blue Racoon is designed to be ridden slowly. If you bimble down it, everything seems to flow. If you go any faster it becomes a death trap.
Another fab video man. Hope your buddy is ok. Just goes to show how important crash protection is even on a blue! Ride safe
Thanks dude. Yeah I agree with you about crash protection. Lesson of the day = Always wear kneepads!
Great video as always bud, lovely weather for it makes it all the better 👍 hope your mate gets well soon.
Thanks Dave. Yes he is on the mend.
I love 417 bike park, a great warm up day for the Forest of Dean.
Great video, came across it looking for flyup vids as we're hopefully going in June. You have a new subscriber. Hope your mates ok
Cheers man. You will have a great time at 417. There is a cool new line called pinball wizard to check out too.
nice vid, looking at booking 417 soon

Not a bad place to go. Not far from my neck of the woods.
Hope your mate recovers. Need those knee pads though.
Yeah kneepads are an absolute must. I can’t believe I still see people riding without helmets. Bonkers!

Fly UP 417 in my home town. Shocked to say I've not been - yet.
It's worth visiting for a days ride. Although, you have the Cannop Cycle Centre just around the corner, that place is awesome!
Great video as always, Just wondering have you ever been to Dartmoor bike park at river dart?
Thanks mate. I haven’t been there yet, but it is on my list.

Yeah, riding on roots and rocks is no problem. The surface of a bikepark is like landing on a cheese grater!
Looks like Fly Up 417 is full of flowy trails. That knee tho 😬
Yeah, a pretty savage injury
Great video

We’re is it
Pads pads pads....hope he is ok
In the carpark before the ride we were all talking about how important kneepads are. I think he lost the argument today.
Oh no,shame about chris and hope that he will be ok.
Wild boar chase in the forest of dean next Sunday. Are you going?
Yeah he is on the mend.
Ahhh gutted. I am in Wales next weekend.
@@bikeandbeyond oh no
Knee pads
