When you work abroad you get a work visa. In USA its called Green card...As simple as that!
Green card is not a work visa. Green card gives you the right to remain in the United Sates permanently and enjoy all the rights and privileges as American citizen enjoy. The only difference is that a US citizen can vote in elections where as a green card holder cannot. Work visa is H1 and it is approved by the US Labor Department. It approves that a person who is applying for work permit do qualify to work in the USA
