On one of my Royal Caribbean cruise I took the tour of the ship. We went through food storage and the galley meeting the head chef.We saw behind the scenes. How they get meals out to us. I was impressed. It is very professional staff.

You can really get some greatly discounted specialty dining options if you book on board- later in the cruise... they will try to fill reservations. We got one 40% off and Chefs Table at 50% off. You have to be flexible with your choices of course and we were only a party of 3.
Thank you we have a party of 4. And this will be our first cruise on harmony.

I have many dietary needs and Royal Caribbean has been AMAZING handling my food issues. I am able to pre order my meals the night before, if I don’t see anything on the menu I care for/or can eat they will make something that suits me. If you ask at the buffets they should be able to make something to order...it might take a little more time but worth the hot meal and you don’t have to worry. We are Loyal to Royal......the always take my needs seriously and for that I am grateful. I have even had a server from a pervious cruise 2 years ago see me boarding on my most recent cruise....he remembered my needs and spoke to my new server about my needs! That’s service!!
Cheryl Gorecki good to hear. My sister-in-law is coming with us on her first cruise and she has a list of things she can not eat due to her Ulcerative Colitis; or it could cause her to have an attack. Any other tips?
Carolyn G......for the Gluten Free people, The Windjammer Buffet has a gf section and if you ask a Windjammer manager they will go the Jonny Rockets and get you gf french fries...if you go directly to Jonny Rockets you will get charged so ask a buffet manager, it may take awhile but they are free and super yummy. Cafe Promenade has gluten free UDI cookies and sometimes gf sandwiches . You just need to ask. The Sabarros has gf pizza as well. Have her contact Royal Caribbean about her food issues to be added to her account and also visit the Maître d’ right away when she boards the ship and let them know. I also like to have the same waiter in the main dining room as well so they are consistently considering my dietary restrictions even if you have my time dining. One time I ordered a meal the night before and the next evening they came to me right away and let me know they researched the ingredients and found traces of corn....they made me shrimp scampi instead 👍 With my nut allergies they don’t even let nuts on my table. She should feel comfortable with her food....she just needs to ask. They are happy to help they really don’t want you sick.
I’m not sure the buffet will be an option for her. My husband is gluten intolerant and we have sailed before so we know the chefs are great to walk the buffet with him; letting him know what he can and can’t eat. I think she will have to have her meals made special everyday in the main dining room because she has so many foods that affect her: gluten, corn, soy, garlic, onions, apple, honey and she even has to have lactose free milk. She is going to bring lots of snacks for herself from home cause she can’t take chances.
Carolyn G. I get it.. Very tough. I always get fresh from the buffet if I eat there. Regular people use the gf section and can contaminate the food so just ask for fresh. I hope she has success. Its not fun being ill and traveling.
I have had the exact opposite experience on both Oasis and Allure. Not saying you're wrong, just saying that the staff are not usually as accommodating. In fact if say they are the exact opposite..

When we went on allure of the seas this past summer me and about 8 other people all teenagers went on the carsoule like 3 times and the person working it was just like so done with us it was hilarious

Since you mentioned Savory Bites, cruisers should know that they are considered "discontinued" although some people still report seeing them served on ships. None of the Royal cruises I have been on in the last year (6) have served them by default but on each someone always seemed to have requested them and they were accommodated.

On Harmony back in February, I was able to make a reservation for dessert only at Wonderland... best $10 I've ever spent on a cruise, just to have the chocolate globe!

Good to know we can grab food from Windjammer & take it wherever! The questions I still have though are 1) Is there an outdoor seating option for the main dining room? & 2) Does the main dining room serve breakfast too?
Pretty sure Main Dining does breakfast every day. Dinner every day, Lunch only on sea days. Currently the windjammer buffet may not be open for dinner. It depends on the capacity the cruise is sailing at.
We always book the Chef’s Table. It has luscious food and it is a fun experience. They make you feel like you are a special guest.
Maybe I missed it, so many tips packed into this video with Matt talking at his normal rapid pace but you can order as much as you want in most of the restaurants multiple apps, entrees and deserts.
In nearly all cases, yes. Chops Grille limits you to one entree, but others have no limit. The main dining room has no limit either. Bottom line is you will not be hungry on a ship.
We did the A la Carte breakfast on Allure and learned you can also go to the buffet. Great if you want greens and salmon with your eggs Benedict, or more than just the 5 items on the A la carte menu. Fyi.
For adventures of the seas I was able to book my speciality dining 122 days in advance! Cant wait! I have 118 days left till embarkation!

Great video. Answered my question about the non-alcohol limits allowed to bring on board. You might suggest some type of rolling luggage/bag for those with heavy carry on beverages since you will not be allowed inside the staterooms if you board early.

My daughter and I did the chefs table on the Jewel. It was pricey but not as pricey as land based chefs table. We enjoyed it immensely bc we are food and wine lovers. If you aren't into wine or have lots of food restrictions and/or a picky eater, this is not for you. I say this bc you will delay or hinder the experience for everyone else bc of your complaints and various requests for substitutions. I love food tours and willing to try things but there's always a jerk who signs up for this who has no business doing so. Sodont be that person, keep your money. We will be grateful that you don't.
Hello Matt currently in the Allure today is 10/02/19 just had dinner at Samba Grill forget Chops it's overrated at Samba you get lamb,pork,fillet mignon,chicken rapped in bacon,top sirloin,pork and you can have all you can eat but most importantly taste way better they bring it to you until you cry uncle. Sides galore simply amazing.
Park Cafe has GREAT Roast Beef Sandwiches and Soups. It's a must try!

It's a nice ship the ship is wonderful lots of things to do free icecream on pool decks and the food and buffet3bars are amazing lots of different foods cakes and fresh juices

I remember on the last cruise I went on I had to go lunch, I couldn't do dinner since there were too many people, everyday with my grandparents because they say 'we're taking everyone so you have to at least come to one meal with us.' And I didn't like anything other than the mozzarella sticks and even when they had been done one way and I didn't like them but we later saw them and they were the usual way, my dad had gotten his later because they forgot, they brought out some no problem. I already liked Royal but them doing that and being so understanding of me not talking much to them but not ignoring me made me very happy, this was the cruise that won me over officially.
Ps. This is on the Enchantment, or a similar ship but I'm pretty sure it was the Enchantment.

We are heading out on our first cruise in July. I'm looking at purchasing the 3 day dining package. Can those in the know please advise? Where do we find endless lobster?
On Coco cay island (private island where the cruise takes you). If you book the cabanna you can order as much free lobster as you want (along with the steaks, shrimp, and everything else the restaurant serves). They bring it right out to your cabanna, or you can go to the restaurant.... I've been watching too many of these videos, lmao.
On the last day of formal night, you can have all the lobster tails you want.
RC has a kids menu in the MDR. One granddaughter ate pizza every night (age 11), the other granddaughter (age 8) preferred to order from the adult menu, so there is a choice. My daughter is a vegetarian and they brought her some fabulous dishes off menu. MDR is very accommodating!
I would take another cruise just for the food, it was excellent

You can not always bring food back onboard. We were in Cozumel and stopped at local Mexican bakery. We tried to bring the different pastries in a bag back on the ship but since they were not pre-packaged commercial food the security threw them in the garbage.
Yep. Only packaged food can be brought back on the ship from Mexico. Important point.

I first tried escargots on RC. Totally outside my comfort zone but I liked them. Then tried them on Celebrity. They were better in Royal! On Celebrity we really missed Sorrentos and Cafe Promenade. And we kept calling their buffet "windjammer" LOL

Laurie Raker, we just heard that the hurricane is going up the east coast. Hopefully , the worst of it will be all finished before you leave. I live on the west coast in Ft. Myers. All the best for smooth sailing! Our next cruise cruise isn’t until April on Oasis. Royal is a great cruise experience.

I love Majesty andirons has the best food, and the best service because there are less people so it becomes more personal than on the Oasis class. I loved the picture of Majesty’s windjammer.

I am excited about my upcoming cruise to Canada on the Serenade of the seas. It is my first Royal Caribbean cruise. I booked a 3 specialty dinner package over a month ago but was told I can only make reservations for the 1st night and it must be the 1st or 2nd night. that is ok but am upset that I must wait to get onboard to make the other reservations. This rule is not in existence on any other cruise line that we have cruised on in the past. Matt can you comment please.
I bought the chops plus one for our upcoming cruise to Alaska in August. They automatically assigned us Chops on our first night, but I've noticed Izchumi and Jamie's is selling out. How do I get my second night on the choices I want before it sells out?
I'm leaving Oct 30 on Vision of the Seas and bought a 5 night Dining Package via the Cruise Planner. Am I correct that I am unable to make reservations using this option until we board the ship and, if that is the case, can you make dining package reservations using the app once on board?
Yes, you cannot make reservations on a package until you're on board. I don't know if you can use your app; we went to guest services and booked the whole week as soon as we got on board.

6:30 Our Cruise that left Amsterdam didn't allow us to bring back food or drinks from most ports :( had to toss out a box of candy from port" when we found out"

I read one of your blog posts about how to get discounted drinks and it was mentioned shareable drink cards can sometimes be purchased aboard although not guaranteed.

If you plan on dining at Coastal Kitchen, I would recommend a 3 night dining package, rather than the unlimited option
On the unlimited dining package under my cruise planner there is an offer $99/ adult. I was wondering if this is one flat fee or is it $99/ day of your cruise?

I would say the dining package might make a lot of sense. There's plenty of options aside from the buffet, but if that's important, than consider the dining package.

Has royal Caribbean changed much so 2 years ago with there dining and there other eating restaurants? This will be our first time on the harmony plus my wife and I are taking our two girls on there first cruise on harmony. Because it has so many activities on board. Carnival doesn’t. We just wish royal would have some freebies. Like Soda. Or something.

I have requested ice cream from room service via phone. They said they don’t do it. It won’t stay frozen during the 30-45 minutes it takes. It’s also not on the room service. Last cruise - 16 days ago.
Why on earth would it take 30 minutes to walk the ice cream to your room?
I LIVE in a food desert in my home town and REGULARY WALK HOME WITH A HALF GAL , in the heat of summer WITHOUT IT MELTING! Put in on a tray in a serving table ment to deliver COLD FOOD and DELIVER IT. I worked in restaurants for years and no ice cream in room service is SUBSTANDARD!
Is it something new about bringing non-alcoholic beverage on embarkation? I have been told repeatedly that we cannot bring soda (Pepsi) on board.

I have been on Royal Caribbean twice. Last trip was on Symphony of the Seas. I have found that it's best to order the specialty dining . For some reason the main dining room food no matter what time seems to have no real flavor. I am not referring to salt , I mean where is the real seasoning when it comes to the main dining room.
I like the Windjammer at lunch time the specialty stations are awesome. It is worth going to the specialty restaurants or the Windjammer if you are a foodie.
I agree. I think it's because they have to make the MDR dishes bland to accommodate a bunch of people. But the buffet can be more adventurous and there's culinary staff that make dishes from their country.

I have never been on a cruise yet, but I hope to do so soon. What is the price range approximately for the restaurants that charge extra? Can you see their menu in advance?
The restaurant pricing can vary depending on which concept it is. On my cruise in April these are the prices without any discounts , Chops Grille is $58.99, Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen is $47.99 and Izumi Hibachi is $54.99. This is the price per person.

Hi! First post. First cruise on Oasis of the seas on December 15th! How do I get royal to pick us up from our hotel with their car service? I haven't found it online.
It's not offered by Royal Caribbean. I'd recommend using a car service, like Lyft or Uber.
Or check with your hotel. Many offer transfers to and from the port.
Our Travel Agent told me that we are not allowed to bring bottled water as part of our carry on beverages. Was also told we could not bring any already prepared food back on from port. We are going on Harmony June 2020. Is this true?

Im going on Adventure of the seas 3rd week in December. I have the Coastal specialty dining included with my suite reservation but i cant find any info on that restaurant. Was i misinformed?
Adventure of the Seas does not have Coastal Kitchen. That suites-only restaurant is on Oasis or Quantum Class ships.

Is pre-booking of Specialty Dining available on Freedom of the Seas? I've got the Unlimited Dining Package for my cruise in November 2019. The Cruise Planner says, "All additional reservations or changes to your courtesy reservation must be made once onboard at any specialty restaurant."
If you buy a dining package, you must wait to make reservations until onboard.

I am having a hard time deciding to go on the ANTHEM OF THE SEAS or the oasis. I'm looking for a place to have LOTS of fun.
Symphony of the seas looks like the best ship to choose. They've got pretty much everything and it's the largest cruise ship in the world. There's like 4 water slides, 2 huge 10 story dry slides, surfing machine, rock climbing, mini golf, laser tag, ice skating, roller skating, water shows at the outdoor aqua theater, a large indoor theater where they have award winning Broadway shows, multiple pools, basketball court, shuffleboard, casino, game show room that turns into a Latin dancing club at night, sports bar showing all the games, bumper cars, carousel. Nevermind their private island in the Bahamas (don't even get me started lmao) .... yup I'm definitely watching too many of these videos. That's the ship I'm going to choose when I get the chance.

Yes. We just did. Up to 12 unopened bottles less than 17 ounces each.

Yes. It's not free, you paid for it, but the cost of the dining package means no additional cost to dine at the specialty restaurants.

Just came off a cruise out of Galveston tx on Liberty of the seas. Food and service were excellent. Did not do the specialty dining.
