Also for the record...The window was rattling BEFORE the lift and tires. It just has gotten progressively worse. I was going to wait to tell you all during the dealership video 5K service, however it has gotten so bad now that I had to share. Thanks guys!!!

Hey Jon, I work in glass research and deal closely with automotive applications. I am certain the rattling is coming from the lower channel, not the upper. In other words, the rattling is coming from where the window sits in the carrier inside the door panel.
    Hope this helps.

I’ve been loving my 2023 1794 Tundra so far. I have done over 1,200 miles in road trips over the last month, and it’s made road trips very comfortable and enjoyable. The only thing I need fixed is the leg extension on the drivers seat that doesn’t ever work for me. I have not had the window issue though. Truck is currently at about 6,200 miles.

    • @TRDJon

I just rented the exact truck with brown leather interior. Have to say the worst ride of any truck I've rented including lower end Nissan Titans. The shocks are terrible, super stiff. You really feel every bump. The whiny turbo noise is weird, the general road noise inside the cabin is louder than my 2019 Tundra. I'm sorry these new trucks are a fail.

I bought a 2023 Tundra platinum and only had it for 2300 miles. Loved the truck but was super disappointed with towing. Couldn't find any truck with tow mirrors and so I settled with the regular mirrors. Big mistake!! The next problem was I would get an overheated transmission light when pulling up hills. The dealer said it was because it was new.... and that it should work its self out. The load was my aluminum 22' boat 4K very light load. I have a hay farm so I loaded up 100 bales (6K lbs. and a doubly axle trailer all together 9500 lbs. No problem on power but I felt as if the trailer was pushing me down the road even with trailer breaks. Next I took a road trip pulling 2 wavrunners and some camping gear, we drove over to eastern Oregon 400 mile road trip and got 14 MPG. And on all these loads/ trips the Tundra is very very squatty. My previous Truck was a Ram 3500 Short bed Diesel. I got rid of that truck @ 120,000 miles because I was so sick of emission problems and a rough ride! I was really hoping the Tundra was the fix. I ended up going back to a Ram 2500 Mega cab with a diesel. So far 800 miles , averaging 20.7 MPG way better ride then the 3500 and when you need the pulling power you got it. I sure with the Rams interior was like the Tundra!!

I demoed a 2023 TRD SPORT PREMIUM for 48 hours and here was my experience:
    PROS:
    -insanely stable at fast speeds
-very good power and handling for size
    -beautiful exterior
    -love the instant acceleration
    -not much hear hunting
    -softex looks good
-obviously the amazing crash ratings IIHS
    -shifter fits hand perfect
    CONS:
    -rattling rear glass when down
    -crazy wind noise
    -rattling defrost fan
    -weird uneven gaps around body
    -uneven rubber trims
    -holes between fenders and headlights
    -dirt in the paint
-no rubber gasket 3rd brake light. Just a huge gap.
    -cheap plastic interior
-entire overhead console wobbles when pressing light buttons
-LED lights are inefficient inside truck
-door cards LOOK and feel cheap
-AC vent bezels look and feel cheap.
-parked it next to a used V8 tundra and gently tapped around each body and felt a clear difference. Feels cheap and hollow.
    -seats are too firm.
    - the grab handles are an UTTER fail. Tacoma way better. Knuckles hurt from tundra handles.
-steering wheel is an awkward shape. It’s just awkward. The leather feels thin.
-the key fob is so cheap it laughable. For a TUNDRA I should get a cooler fob that says tundra.
-lastly, for a $60-65k sport premium loaded, I get these cheap ass Honda accord gauges. The Tacoma has beautiful 3D blue gauges with rocks AND mountains in the MID. I get a RAV4/Corolla MID with ZERO clue I just spent almost $70,000. Some nicely bezeled gauges with a digital design signifying I just got a highway worrier truck would be 100% necessary. I’m dumbfounded they even rolled it with these gauges and MID.
Honestly I feel like the Tundra launch was disrupted by Covid and they rushed to slap it together to not make the mistake they did w the Supra. They wanted to enter the market while people were over spending on full size trucks. But slapping it together misses the mark and people notice. Nobody can pretend this new tundra doesn’t feel cheap. ESPECIALLY if they were ever exposed to the love and care that went into building those solid V8 tundras.
Lmk if anyone agrees or disagrees. Our voices change the market!

As a Mercedes tech I can guarantee you the customer would get corporate involved if we told them that window rattle is normal lol. That’s wild they would even tell you that. Surprised they wouldn’t even try just replacing all the window channel seals, or even the window regulator if it’s not holding the window tight enough up against the seals.

Toyota told us a few years back that oil consumption of one quart every 500-600 mile in our Toyota Camry was "normal" which I knew was total BS. I reached out to an old acquaintance that was a Toyota Master Tech and he told me there was a problem with a sizeable batch of engines that had bad piston rings. He said Toyota was trying to side step the issue and to press the dealer and Toyota hard on the issue. After 2-3 months of back and forth Toyota finally put out a TSB on the issue and replaced the pistons and rings in thousands of engines.

Appreciate your candid breakdown of rattling window panels. Given this is the 2nd year since refresh, one would expect this to be fixed already during production or at a minimum a manufacturer ready to fix solution should be given to the dealerships to address the necessary adjustment. On a brighter note, your 37 suspension lifted system seems to be doing a good number at 16 mpg of mixed driving. My stock 23 Ram Rebel with a bunch of skid plates and 1 inch stock lift on 33 AT tires have been giving me avg of 16 mpg [18+ on freeway (driving like I'm next to the CHP) and 14 1/2 on city].

Great review! Interesting about the window issue, I had a similar issue on my 2017 Ford F250, the fix was to replace the door striker with one that had no coating on it. The coating on the OEM strike wore off and the entire door would shake slightly, and you could hear it around the window. The striker that fixed was from an older model Chevy truck with no coating. I was skeptical, but when installed the rattle from the window was gone.

Hi Jon, I've been experiencing significant wind noise, about 40+ mph, accompanied by a whistling sound. I took it to the dealer, but they just verified the seal and compared it with other new Tundras, noting similar noise, hence concluding they couldn’t do much about it. Additionally, there's a rattling noise from my steering wheel. The dealer stated they couldn't replicate it and have refrained from taking any action. There’s also an issue with my screen, where it goes black, and all the buttons freeze. I’ve opened a case with Toyota on all this, but there's been no resolution. All these issues are occurring in my 2023 Tundra Limited, which I bought about 2 months ago.

Took it in to the dealer and they replaced the door seals cuz they thought that was the fix but nope. Nope has spacer lift up front (going to swap for Wescott soon) and 35’s on 18 inch wheels. I just can’t imagine that being the issue. It honestly seems like the windows are loose in the door and they are shifting up and down. I also saw on another one of your reviews how loose your windows were when you pulled them up, so I tried the same. My thoughts are it’s the window bouncing up and down and not sitting properly inside of the door vs the door being sealed properly.

@TRDJon, regarding the window rattle, I wonder if you could post a survey on your channel for the window rattle issue and whether those affected have the standard side view mirrors or the tow mirrors?
I have a '22 1794 with standard mirrors and a standard bed. I don't have the window rattle, but I do have what I consider a driver door gasket noise that is very slight and very intermittent, and an intermittent wind noise from the RR passenger door. My dealer has attempted to fix these without parts replacement, which has minimized the noise and frequency of the events, but has not eliminated them. I plan to bring it up again during my 20K service likely in December.

Toyota is purposefully not fixing known problems. It’s either cheaper to not fix them or it’s planned obsolescence. Try getting a 2005 chassis recall and then a 2017 with the same recall. What’s the point of Toyotas high resale value if the dealer over charges and their vehicles aren’t reliable. Toyota is falling off.

I bought a toyota and was told that the truck could be serviced and taken care of at any toyota dealer that I take it to due to me paying for a extra package. When I took it to a different dealer they told me that they couldn't. Where I bought it which was 4 hours away told me to report them to the Southeastern toyota department. I was told that the popping in my steering wheel they couldn't fix it (When I turn right) and some other things. I have two crazy theories. One is window tint. I have read across many car communities that after tint people start hearing more noise. Maybe when it’s installed the seal gets bent or moved every so slightly or added friction makes something happen, how I have no idea lol but it is an aftermarket product. I personally have never had a problem with tint. My second crazy theory is the vinyl wrap on the A pillars. Is it possible the added thickness of the wrap creates some sort of air flow issue? Once again I do not know how likely either is, just crazy theories. I have a 23 sr5 Trd off-road, it rattles a lot but overall it’s been really good and no window noise yet or at least anything I notice. When it comes to vehicles people have very strong opinions, I have never owned a truck. I choose the Tundra because compared to Ford, Ram and Chevy with comparable features it was 5-10 grand cheaper. Also they all have their issues, it’s just the world we live in. Would I get another one? Probably not, but only because I think I am more of a sedan / van (ultimate family hauler) guy honestly. Keep up the great content.

    • @TRDJon
      @TRDJon  ปีที่แล้ว

Dealer is probably gonna blame the tires for causing the window rattle. My passenger side upper tow mirror glass shakes pretty bad on my Pro and 2 dealers now have blamed the 34’s I have on it for the cause of it. Even though the shake isn’t a consistent shake like it would be from tires, it happens more when there’s a gust of wind, or I’m passing a larger truck. But neither of them cared, just passed it off and blamed the tires even though I told them that it has been a problem even with the stock tires.
