I love how it's very unobtrusive. At first I wasn't sure about the new pod design due to it being so much bigger than the old one. But now I've been using it for a bit I've changed my mind. It's great for framing stuff in awkward angles as you say, and also so you can make sure head cam and chest mount stuff is lined up where it should be. It also makes changing the settings really easy as well. Now I just have to get my own review finished!
Totally agree! The ability to frame your shot is amazing. Even head mounted, sometimes I’m a little high or a little low. With the Action Pod, I can do a quick check and I’m good to go!
The explanation behind the use case for this camera is literally perfect. The flip up screen is such an amazing little feature and as soon as you said "I'm surprised someone else hasn't thought of this". I was thinking the exact same thing! I have a question for you regarding the battery set up for the Go 3 and the new housing it has. Does the Go 3 Charge while in the housing off the battery located within it. Or, does the Go 3 camera module bypass the internal battery in the camera and use the battery within the housing? Let me paint a picture... I have used 30 mins of battery, put the camera in the housing to film something however when I take the camera back out of the housing, its still on the same battery level as it was when I stuck it into the housing? Great video as always David, keep them coming!
Thanks Jaayboii, an everyday easy to use family cam is for sure the best use case. And you're exactly correct, the GO 3 is charging as soon as you put it in the Action Pod!
I keep seeing comparisons between this and the GoPro and one thing that seems to be often overlooked is the specific case use. Yes, it's not as good spec-wise as the latest GoPro...BUT...I also can't strap my GoPro to my R/C cars or cats to make that sort of content...my R/C cars either get overweighed by a GoPro or it's just too bulky to do certain shots. Same with my cats...I got small cats...GoPros will just feel like a nuisance for them and I don't want to make them feel uncomfortable.
This is the exact thing that I keep telling people who can’t understand why I would spend money on a camera that can’t do 4K. It has nothing to do with the video quality and more to do with the form factor and creative freedom to get with a camera like this. Plus we all see what happens to the DJI action 2 when it records for longer than five minutes. It very easily overheats at 4K. Everything has its plus and minus.
Great video as always! Can you tell me if it transfers the files any quicker from the Go 3 to the iPhone than the Go 2? I like my Go 2 but the file transfer is soooo slow.
Another TH-camr asked if the American dream is becoming the Canadian dream. Based on your footage and what I’ve learned watching you for past 3 or 4 years, you are definitely living the American dream. Hey, guess what? I actually had my very first videographer gig. It was for a charity so I didn’t get paid but hey, that’s okay. It was for Girls on the Run or GOTR for short. I was actually honoured to be apart of that and capture so cool shots and used my DJI mic and worked amazingly. I was pretty happy how it all went down. You’re my go to for reviews like this David! A lot of the other “reviews” are just shots and don’t give us a real look. Appreciate you and keep it up! 😁
Great review and what a cool camera! What internal memory suits the runtime best? Of course, when charged now and then you need more memory before emptying the footage but if you don´t?
If you plan to offload a days worth of vlogging at night 64 is good. If you’re going on a long vacation without being able to unload the memory in the camera than 128 is probably your best bet.
If you have a GO2, I can't justify an upgrade. The main resolution is still 1440p. The 2.7K doesn't go beyond 30p. I do like the remote viewer/controller. How far away can you be from the camera and control wirelessly? Longer battery and expanded memory is always welcome. The GO 2 is probably available for a very good deal. It's more discreet and has the same main resolution.
Hi! Is you GO 2 shutting down / freezing after 3-4 minutes of recording? I have this kind of issues with mine and this is the reason I want to upgrade to GO 3. But if everyone has that freezing problem with GO 2... the question is: The GO 3 is still freezing after 3-4 minutes of continuous filming?
The flip-up screen is probably a large part of why the 'action pod' is not fully waterproof, and that is probably why you won't find a flip-up screen on things like GoPro. Unless they figure out a way to do it and keep the camera fully waterproof.

Hi @DavidManningvlog ! I could really use your advice. I'm a video/action camera newbie. Depends how baggy your shirt is. The magnet is quite strong, but if your shirt is baggy, as you run it's going to bounce a lot more than if your shirt is tighter. In general, though, the pendant mount is the least secure mount because it only relies on the magnet. The hat mount uses magnet and a cup to sort of hold it in place
Damn! Now I need to give Inst360 more money. I mount my go2 on top of my camera but always wanted to put it lateral. The action mount will let me do that. Will it fit in the Go2 accessories?
The flip out screen in a action camera is killer innovation...i see lots of vloggers using this camera when they dont want to carry a big camera for vlogging....will you recommend this for vlogging ?
Great review as always! Poor GoPro is probably screaming they had the flip up screen for their media mod. Absolutely no creator covered the accessory though. This one is still better bc of the remote monitoring though.
This is an awesome run and gun travel vlog cam, I can see myself just having this on a cap, or my shirt. so quick to capture something spontaneous that I may miss trying to get my phone out or my OG osmo action let alone my big camera. I'm curious is there a USB C on the cam itself? reason I ask is could this be rigged to have constant power through a small battery bank to improve its run time. I honestly didn't think I would need another piece of gear, however this fills in the gaps that other gear can't do as well. Nice review as always David!
No, only usb c on the Action Pod bit. Would be sweet to see a magnetic mount that had a cable attached that you could plug in power to so the camera itself could just magnet on and be charging
@@DavidManningvlog There was for the Go2, and there's a USB-C powered mount for the very similar Osmo Action 2 mount, so if Insta360 don't do one I'm sure Telesin or Ulanzi will. But maybe that may impact the heat dissipation?
@@DavidManningvlog my thoughts exactly! I also want this for my pov view when I'm airbrushing my models. This is actually quite an innovative design, so much potential !

I have always trusted your opinion when it comes to cameras so maybe you can help me out. I have been in the haunt industry for over 20 years and I am looking for a small camera to attach somewhere on me to film as I scare the hell out of people. What camera do you recommend? I don’t want it to be very noticeable and because haunted attractions are dark, I would need it to be decent in low light situations.
The only issue I have with the Go series is the color. I wear black most of the time and it would be great to have the camera blend in more with my shirt or hat as opposed to this white device that creates so much contrast, it draws attention to it. Why won't they make a black version?!
@@darealkosmo will the skin wrap around the camera completely. I think every one wants a totally blacked out version so that it can hide a little better. especially if you combo it with black shirt. it would look very incognito at like a a grocery store with the pendant mount for sure. all in all I have no complaints that it will still a do a good job would being very discreet for filming in public. insta360 really hit it off with this one!!!👏

This is actually quite an innovative design, so much potential !
i do like how tiny it still is, but the extra run time is awesome, there is so much to like about this little camera, maybe i=this is the one i have been looking for - for the longest time. i like how it doesn't intrude on you making memories. awesome video as always.
have yourself a brilliant week.
Standalone Live streaming to FB or TH-cam, possible?
i'm a parent too and i use it whenever we go out to film my daugther. unfortunately i lost my go 2 in a waterpark last memorial day. i'm buying this still anyway!
Is tie go 3 worth the upgrade from the 2?
Can the Go 2 fit on the action pod?
Ultimate busy parent cam. Lol. I'm glad I waited cuz I was about to buy the Go2.
My Go 2 is protected when I fold it up, i can toss it in the backpack. Is there any kind of protection for the lens on the 3?
DUDE.....is that your THIRD KID NOW? Congrats!!! God, I remember being young, good looking, raising my 3 and being married to a hottie just like you! (respectfully) Well done brother.
Bo
Great video! I want this so much! Teeth check lol
wow, looks great, looks like I might have to buy another camera! I don't have the go 2. as I travel a bit it is nice to take small form cameras. thanks
Would this work while plug in on a portable charger for a continuous shot?
Just paint it.
you can get a custom skin for 10 bux
They seriously need a black version.
