The Lab Los Angeles is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective's weekly post-work unwind where we stream only the finest American and international DJs, live and direct from our Downtown LA office. This Friday, The Lab LA receives a Potion takeover with The Magician, The Aston Shuffle and Bobby Nourmand.
Stephen Fasano, more commonly known through his mystical alias The Magician, descends upon The Lab with his carefully curated Potion showcase, right here in downtown Los Angeles. In addition, The Magician has risen within his genre as a respected tastemaker with his monthly Magic Tapes series.
Australian output The Aston Shuffle is made up of Mikah Freeman and Vance Musgrove, a duo that has been hard at work since first catching the attention as rising talents back in 2006 with a handful of celebrated remixes. 2014 saw The Aston Shuffle reveal 'Photographs', which became a Top 1 album on iTunes. Today, The Aston Shuffle command their 'Friday Night Shuffle' on Triple J.
Los Angeles-based Bobby Nourmand joins the Potion takeover with a hometown advantage. Already a noted up-and-comer, Bobby has released a handful of successful originals which have garnered him major attention on Los Angeles' premier radio channel KCRW and Hype Machine as well.
The Smirnoff Sound Collective is all about bringing fans closer to the DJs, providing up and coming talent with a solid platform and throwing unique events where fans and artists can party together.

Crazy a long time ago I tried to play the first song at the beggining of a set of mine too and let me tell you that song was a Little hard to mix but just practicing i found the perfect time and track to made it... i love that song!
I think the point is that if you are a professional, you smooth out the wrinkles *before* you try it in front of a crowd, being recorded. Practice, practice, practice. And if it doesn't work after all that effort, try something different. Experiment at home in front of your friends, give the polished product for paying audience.
Or just suck and be laughed off stage.

What a fu#k was it???
Am I the only one honest enough to say that the first dj can't mix to save his life? The first two tracks are an atrocious effort. It's like he simply hit play on the second track 15 seconds before the first one finished and let them play over each other. Not much better between Bob Moses and Rufus. Nice track selection though. That's where they earned the 4 points out of 10.
