You know, i love the quality of your videos but the thing i enjoy the most is that you show your mistakes and frustrations. Too many channels are 'perfection'. You show us your learning curves along the way. Im happy that you get out enjoy the outdoors.
13:37 put some wet wood close to the fire to dry out. Also if you need to, locate a fallen pine tree. Then onto the roots. Cut off some roots. The pine resin gathers in the roots of a fallen pine and solidifies there. You’ll notice it’s all reasony at the roots cross section. Take a blade and scrape that hard resin and make a pile. It will burn even when wet because it’s not water soluble. Use this to dry your kindling and so on. Hope that helps you 😊 Luv and support from 🇨🇦
Love this advice! I’ve seen others use fat wood but haven’t spent the time to figure out exactly what to look for and how to locate it. This is really helpful. Thank you ☺️ I appreciate you
I really like how honest you are about forgetting things and the problems you encounter, like dropping your camera in the lake and fears of various wild elements, slithering things and insects. No reason to sugar coat it, it makes your content much more relatable. Hopefully we learn each time we do something new, and work through whatever comes up in life. Thank you for that realism. I want a canoe again watching your adventures.
I love your authenticity in your videos! I grew up in Manistique and have never been to these lakes! Definitely planning to go! Thanks for representing us women who love the woods!
Your videos are entertaining. Probably because you are learning as you go, you are more relatable to many of us. Don’t be to hard on yourself, mistakes are part of the learning process
Thank you for wearing your PFD when you are on the water. That gust of wind that caught you by surprise is a very good example, (though you probably would've been fine then seeing that you were basically on shore). But just a good reminder that the unexpected is exactly that- unexpected. Better safe than sorry!
I’ve watched all the videos and have been on edge through each one of them but I’m so freaking intrigued. GURL! I’m all in and looking forward to your next one. ❤
Thank you for watching them! Hopefully I’ll be able to get out again soon. Currently watching all of the videos on your channel ☺️ I love how cozy you make your tents! Kinda makes me want to put a little more effort into making my setup more cozy!
You are an attractive young lady. While the areas you are in a usually very very safe, there isn't much law enforcement either. Please consider getting a CPL and at least some basic training to follow it up. Even if you have someone else with you that we don't see. Please consider it and stay safe.
@@ApeaceofthewoodsI watched one video of a young woman who was doing the van living thing. And she was visited by someone who tried to manipulate her into making her camp further away from the road. I was scared watching it. So was she. She packed up and left immediately. However she was also prepared with her firearms and she was well trained as her father was a marine corp vet. Just saying. Hope you follow up on the tip. 😊
If it helps on dealing with wind and wave...have a foam pad so you can drop down to your knees and brace you backside against the seat...this will lower you weight ...connects you with the canoe so you can move with it instead of perched on top. I also recommend taking your canoe to a safe place and just practice falling out of it and safely getting back in...its important to know when it will roll and what it feels like...and what to do when it happens. Your camp meals are very impressive. Enjoying your vides ....thanks!
Thank you for these suggestions! I was thinking about cutting a closed foam sleeping pad I have to a smaller size and using that. Someone else also suggested practicing falling out and I think it is such great advice. I will definite do that. Thank you soo much!
You are a gutsy lady doing all this solo and learning along the way. That being said, mother nature is not in the least forgiving and does care about you. Your level of experience is low, so one small misfortune or bad move you probably will be ok. But things tend to occur in clumps. It is when the problems pile up and the unexpected happens people don't come home. So please be careful, work on your skillsets and listen to the wisdom of those who have been there and have done it.
Its trend now women traveling, hiking, and camping solo. They strong and independent they dont need no man or male guide on a hiking trail. She aint gonna listen. There will be more videos posted.
I do appreciate this advice and the fact that you care enough about my safety to give it. I agree and am trying to be as safe as I possibly can while gaining experience and enjoying life
@@Apeaceofthewoods You know what it seems to be a growing trend on youtube of women traveling, camping, and hiking solo for views.I suspect you all got a man in the background watching for your safety.I get it!
She doing it for views man she not out there alone in the wilderness.Trust me she got somebody in the background watching for her safety. This is growing trend on youtube among women nowadays.lol camping solo, hiking solo etc
@Apeaceofthewoods I never gone that far to see places like this. I'm limited to lonely walks in trails I find or by the lake here. But summer is the only time I get to explore.
I love watching your videos. I am 75 and I made all the mistakes when I was younger. I think you are doing well. Just have to be careful and not take big risks which I don't think you do. Every day is a learning experience. And don't forget that you are the future. You are where the future canoe campers come from. I came through the same mistakes. In the future years you will be an expert and telling everyone else how it's done. Blessings to you and all my wishes.
I definitely agree with you and am trying to push myself just a little bit more with each trip. It’s reassuring to hear that you have been where I’m at. It would be amazing…if years from now I could actually be an expert and help others figure this out. I think I’d be the happiest person around lol. Thank you, blessing and best wishes to you too!!
I came across your channel yesterday and I literally watched every single video! I love your content. You are beautiful and so brave! I’m going glamping next week (no where near anything you’ve done) but it will be my first solo getaway and my first time camping alone. I’m so excited and watching you made me even more excited! I look forward to your future videos! Stay safe! ❤
Omg I really appreciate that! Im so happy to hear it ☺️ Thank you!! You are brave yourself camping or glamping lol. There are so many people that are too afraid to do either one alone! Myself included for years…hope to hear how it went after your trip ☺️☺️ Have fun and be safe as well! ❤️❤️
If the thumping sound you heard was a repeating thumping sound that gets faster and faster then slows down before stopping, it is likely a male grouse trying to attract some ladies. I really appreciate and enjoy how authentic your videos are and you do a great job of including us on the adventure. Hopefully your camera survived!
That’s exactly what it was! 😂 Thank you so much! My camera did NOT survive. And then I re-purchased it and broke the lens on the new one. I’ve really struggled with the filming gear lol
As a Michigander I really enjoy camping as well. I went up to a nice area near Petoskey last year and it was great. However since you're camping alone please be careful. It's best to have extra phone chargers, self defense devices, and a first aid kit for sure.
That area is really nice. I can’t wait to get back over that way ☺️ and definitely to everything you mentioned. I am being as safe as I possibly can’t be
It’s honestly so inspiring that you get out to these places, and especially with such massive drives! I’ve been wanting to go to places super close to me but never did it, and this really makes me motivated that if you can do a 7 or 9 hour drive each way then I can certainly do a 2 hour drive. And just the filming and camping in general.. makes me feel like it’s possible even if I don’t really know what I’m doing haha so thanks from Aus 🙏🏼🇦🇺🤙🏼
I wasn't going to say anything but from 30:55 , I recommend bringing a pew-pew along in a floating dry-bag. In case of venomous snakes, etc, I also carry a Zoleo, which has a "medical advice" option for texting via satellite as well as the SOS button for venom, etc.
Ohh I didn’t realize Zoleo has a medical advice option. That seems pretty useful. I have a garmin InReach Messenger and I was debating between the two when I bought it
You are more confident than you allow yourself to believe and you conduct yourself as a very graceful young lady, but I would say this, be careful what you speak over yourself. Words are powerful and many times we worry about things that will never happen. Take your Cautioun seriously, make your plans and then let the fears go. You will deal with them well when they come up, if they even ever do! 😊
As a Michigan native, it is enjoyable and remind me of boy scouting in the Lower Peninsula. You do a great job showing how to canoe camp and all the fun and issues you get. You do a good job narrating the storyline. Your roast looks great. You have a good eye for cooking on a fire. Please keep making your video's. You bring back good memories of living back in Michigan.
Thank you! Haha it has been a lot of fun but there have definitely been a lot of issues as well. It’s all part of the learning experience. Im sure it was the same when you were in Boy Scouts ☺️I appreciate the positive feedback and I’ll definitely be making more videos ☺️☺️
What I like most about the video's is camping vicariously, I have a strong affinity for fresh water and love fresh water lakes, I just love swimming and just a dunk seems to be all you need to get clean. But I love the smell of fresh water, the sounds, I try to get to a lake as often as it is hot. I made a pond on our property and though it is small it is fed by a spring so fits the cool off bill just fine.
I feel the same way about water and nature together (fresh or salt water) but the combination of the 2…love that you made a pond on your property and the fact that it’s spring fed. I would do the same ing I ever have land one day ☺️
Supernice video :). Quick tip: When the water is getting a bit choppy, try crossing your feet under your seat. This gives you much more stability in the canoe, by being able to push your knees out to the sides.
Again, loving the lake footage . I've gotten into road cycling past 10 years (see profile pic from 2009) and yeah, head winds suck. But those brutal days are redeemed into awesome days the next day. That, to me, is a seriously humbling life lesson. You did just fine. Great prep , gear choice . What I do now on long New England bike tours is carry my split wood with me, 4" split and cured , pine fatwood mixed with red oak. I burn it in an Ikea wood stove (google that) and supplement that with an alcohol beer can or "Cat" stove which can sit in the Ikea . My protocol is to first get first course- fed, (soup in a thermos for the entree is awesome) while setting up the tent (bleh) . Yep, it's drudgery. Then, if needed , go for the full bore pot feed with larger sticks . (Boil drinking water. I try to do at least a half gallon) Once fully fed, stoke the now insanely efficient burn with tall branches , you don't need to split them if you gather them right. You then make a hang -out "tower fire", which doesn't smoke, because it's so efficient . You can literally keep it between your legs. Indians be like: "white man make big fire , sit far away , dodge smoke, We sit close , burn less wood, work less. " My smaller fires burn with a blue flame. This stove design is also borderline "rocket stove" . I am working on getting a 5" stove pipe to perfect it. Oh and I got 3X Lyme bit , and almost died from West Nile . Read the book "Bitten".
@@Apeaceofthewoods wow. Thank you for the actual human response. It's so nice to know that there is a real live amazing person out there some where. I hope that you don't ever change too much. Peace and respect to you
@@josiahmontgomery4860 I appreciate that you took the time to not only watch but write something so kind and positive so thank you!! Peace and respect to you as well ☺️☺️
New viewer and love the fact to you have a lot of gear with you. Minimalist campers don’t impress me much. I think you’re a class act and like that you have the equipment to camp in style. Also, I like your menu choices, definitely camping in style!
Haha I’ve been trying so hard to pare down but I realized I just am not a minimalist camper. One of the reasons I love canoe camping and I struggle with backpacking lol…thank you so much 😊
@@Apeaceofthewoods When I canoe I wear one life vest and put another one in the bottom of the canoe to cushion my knees. Plus if you go over you have extra flotation to save yourself or some gear. Plus a life vest can keep body heat from escaping in cold weather or cold water. Flotation is excellent insulation to wear under wet clothes or in a survival shelter.
Be proud of your accomplishments and how much you have learned. You are doing great! Love watching your videos. Btw- consider to tie in your gear to the canoe so everything stays together if you take a spill. Also have emergency essentials on your person all the time just in case you get separated from your main gear.
Thank you so much!! ☺️☺️ so funny you said that because I just watched another YT video that made me think I needed to tie down my gear! I really appreciate you watching and the advice!
Also ..a little tip. When you can't get that wood going...make a teepee with the sticks leaving a opening on one side ...slide the stove in there and you will have your fire in no time at all...then slide the stove out . Remember bear spray and a rope to hang you food from tree and don't leave anything like food ,tooth paste etc. in camp.
Whatever you do don't give up ! One thing you need to do is have someone show you the J stroke. You won't have to switch sides as often. If it feels too tippy get on your knees to lower your center of gravity. You are remarkable....I wish I could help you. I do have very knowledgable friends up there that would be glad to help you. Have fun....Jerry Gotts
Wow! Such great videos such beautiful country! I’m glad I’m on board early on. Can’t wait to see what wonderful journeys you take us on? Thank for your dedication and enthusiasm 🙏🏻👍🔥☀️❤️
Again, nice. I'm learning a lot about the U.P! It looks really beautiful. You seem to make some exquisite meals camping. Oh yeah, ..., "From" is a great show. Not sure we'll another season though.
You are the first person who has actually seen the show! I actually hope there isn’t another season because I know I won’t refrain from watching and it the last thing I want to be thinking about while camping.
New to your channel so I started with your first posted video. Great mini adventure, glad you showed the ups and downs of being out in the back country. Not everything is rainbows and sunshine all the time. The payoff is those beautiful moments when nature floors us with its beauty and serenity. Keep it and looking forward to watching your other videos! Thanks for taking us along!
Thank you, I appreciate you watching ☺️ there have been a ton of ups and downs and in the very beginning I had a couple trips that made me question if I wanted to keep at it. But the rewards are so worth it like you said. There is nothing that compares to the peace you get being out in a remote place in nature.
@@Apeaceofthewoods I am glad you didn't stop going out, I think you are starting to really find your groove with your channel. Looking forward to seeing where your adventures take you.
I enjoyed this vid and subbed your channel. I watch all the content makers who do this sort of thing. I have been going to places like this a long time and i still get that stressed feeling over weather, animals etc, but it what we do for our fun. It's all worth it when you catch a nice fish or hear the symphony of birds. There are a lot of swainson's thrushes in there too, and barred owls at night to add to the sound. First time i heard a grouse drumming when i was a kid I thought it was man-made. Take care
I’m so happy you enjoyed it 😊 I haven’t had the feeling of catching a nice fish just yet but hopefully that moments coming soon. The loon calls are my favorite. Thank you so much for watching and subbing!!
We've been going there for a while now. 7-10 days at a time, eat fish everyday. If for some reason we don't catch enough or don't feel like eating fish, we have rations. Instant coffee, oatmeal, potatoes, noodles and such. It's about a 8 or 9 hour drive for us. We like Big Island camp spot but Townline is flatter and more open to sky viewing at night. We usually go in September, no bugs! I just skimmed through your video, so forgive me if you mentioned any of this.
Lucky! I would love to go and actually catch fish! It’s a long drive for me too. Next time I definitely want to check out some of the other campsites. Since it was my first time there I figured I would pick the closest one. Thank you so much for watching!
I love how authentic your videos are. With so many outdoor channels, everything just seems perfect, but you show the real struggles and challenges. May I ask what canoe you have? Mine's from the '70s and it weighs a ton. I'd really like to get something lighter.
i love your enduring sprit. i watched your other 2 videos first and i would like to suggest a piece of equipment if your going to play in the UP. its a big place and if your walking in the wrong direction your can go for a long ways without seeing anybody. so all that said, if you dont have one of these you should very much consider getting one. this model is my personal favorite Garmin eTrex Legend its an older model but very user friendly. i like my slightly newer color screen one best its the Legend Cx (it seems to have a little more power and picks up more satellites).
Aww thank you so much ☺️ and thank you for the suggestion. I havnt looked into those models but I like the full screen vs. the In Reach. I’ll definitely considered them both!
@@Apeaceofthewoods So a couple things about the differences in the two. Here is my disclaimer, all I know about the In-Reach is the quick overview of what it does on the Garmin website aka: you quite possibly know more about what it does that I do. From what I see the In-Reach is a “Communication device with a side of “this is where I am” the Legend is strictly a “this is where I am” device. The Legend needs no subscription, put in two AA batteries turn it on and it works (I’ve had the batteries last for several days depending on use). The “Track” function makes a trail on the screen of where you’ve traveled and can be zoomed in/out. The “Mark” feature lets you “drop a pin” where you are (say your campsite) then you can use the “GoTo” to get back to that spot. You can also use Google Earth to find a spot you would like to see/visit, put the GPS coordinates in the Legend and GoTo that spot using the “Bearing” reading on the Legend. In a nutshell that’s the biggest difference I see. The In-Reach seems (note disclaimer) to be a “Help im lost” kinda thing where as the Legend will get you out on your own. Not saying the Reach isn’t a good device to have it is but, as a “Boomer” there's just not a lot of stuff on it I personally would use. 🙂
I've had the etrex 35t for navigation and the mini for safety. Sold them both to buy the inreach 66i. It does both functions. The Garmin software absolutely sacks but it does work. One device is so m7ch easier. The new 67i is supposed to have better software.... check the TH-cam reviews/comparisons.
I use a much less expensive Canadian brand called Zolio. Yes, in order to text, you need a cell phone, but you can use it by itself if you only want to send interval “breadcrumb” gps checkins to whomever. Works great for me so far. I don’t hike a lot, so I only keep the svc enabled when I go
I like your content - I group up not far from Craig lake and now live in the Detroit area. Glad you’re exploring above the bridge. Also other great areas to explore NW Michigan near Traverse City, Charleroi/Petoskey areas.
Glad you found the campsite. When in a remote place like that it's best to stick to a known area. That one windey spot was probably a place whre the existing winds funneled into a wind shear to beat you up a bit. And you just can't go wrong with hotdogs. BTW, has anyone ever told you that you resemble a younger prettier version of Donna Summer? Maybe you could sing She works hard for the money. That would be appropriate for how hard you work to accomplish your adventures. Be safe.
Im pretty sure you’re right about the wind funneling because I even noticed it on my second trip in that spot when it wasn’t that windy anywhere else. Haha I have actually never heard that before. She’s beautiful so I appreciate it…if only I could sing like her. Thank you ☺️
Don't want to be the killer of good vibes, but be very careful and aware camping by yourself. I hope you carry potent mace and other forms of self defense. Not only for animals, but for the creepers and loners with bad intentions. However, I enjoy your videos and the will you display to do all of this on your own. Great example.
Thank you, I appreciate it. You’re not killing any vibes! Friends, family and others who have commented share your same concerns. I always take them positively because I know they come from a good place. Those are my biggest concerns as well so I’m as prepared as I can be.
@@Apeaceofthewoods Good and you're welcome! May the healthy encounters be abundant and correlate positively with the camping adventure flow. Also the roast looked outstanding! I can tell you can hold down a kitchen!
Whatever you’re doing with the edits it’s working perfectly. Keep up the good work. I am completely captured by your beauty both inside and out. Such a wholesome women. Hard to find in 2024. Im literally flabbergasted. 😂😂😂
I’m definitely trying to improve at least a little with each video so I’m happy you think so ☺️☺️ I’ve still got a lot of opportunity for improvement though. Wow thank you…these compliments are so nice I’m not even sure how to take them, but I really appreciate it
I luv when my camp plans don't work out cause that makes it a adventure♥♥ what's the fun in that? lol I feel it makes me a stronger person overcoming 💪🏻great video
I'm enjoying watching your videos this is truly amazing and the food looks great not many people know how to cook on a open fire .you really seem to enjoy the outdoors camping and the way you handle the canoe its not your first ride its really nice. I live in the deep southern United States summer time is not the time to camp here way to hot spring and fall are wonderful though.I just wanted to say be careful out there and have fun you really seem like someone to hang out with camping and all but most of all be careful the world needs more people like yourself. L y
Aww thank you ☺️ this trip was my second time taking this canoe out. Or canoe camping in general. I do really enjoy it and I enjoy cooking. So camping and cooking together is one of my favorite things 😊 thank you so much for watching I’m happy you enjoy the videos ☺️☺️
I statt to watch your videos when I get a chance and I must say! I am very very impressed of your courages and patience and free spirit with the whole O'deal. Some other woman would've say F-Sh*t but you tough throught it. You the kind of beautiful lady that every man can only hope and dream of. Keep up the great job! I will be watching always. Get Glock 9.😂. 🙏🙏🙏👍
It may have been mentioned in the other comments, but the “thumping” you heard was likely a Ruffed Grouse drumming. A quick TH-cam search will show you what it looks like. The sound can really carry through the forest.
Hopefully that thumping noise is a Bigfoot. It would make you famous and their reclusive and love wood knocks. U definitely need to carry protection anytime your in the woods, my opinion. You do you. I'll recommend M&P shield 9mm. It's small, compact and reliable.
You’re literally only the second person who actually watched it. I had to stop now that I’m going out in the woods alone…not something I want to be thinking about out there lol
Hi little lady it's Tony I totally commend you with your solo camping I'm the same way I would like to suggest that you take pool noodles and put it on your canoe so it doesn't mess up your new car and also put the pool noodles on your tripod so if you should go over it with the canoe you don't lose your camera and you can use zip ties I had mentioned to you in the past that I have done lots of camping usually if wood is wet it's weird on the outside so if you peel that off the inside is dry to get the fire going and then you put the wet next to it so it dries out I don't know where your camping but if there's bears in the area or even mountain lions do not keep your food next to you put it up in a tree I use a plastic bag and a nylon bag to hold the plastic one and I have like a 50 ft rope that I throw over the limb keep it at least 10 ft Plus off the ground do not keep food in your tent or on you hey here's another thought why don't you get kayak paddles I would like to wish you the best be safe and I'll see you in the next video may God bless you
Hey Tony!! Thank you again for the advice. I actually did get a kayak paddle ☺️ haha my old car was so scratched up from my canoe I’m shocked I was able to trade it in. Hoping to not do the same to this one. I’ve been a lot more careful. I also started using a GoPro in the canoe in case of an unfortunate overboard situation lol. Never thought about using pool noodles to secure it. You’re full of ideas! And yes, absolutely agree when it comes to the bear safety! ☺️☺️☺️
Awesome video! You can get that hook out of the rope with pliers..just use the pliers to crimp down the barb on the hook and wiggle back out the way it went in. The barb is the pointy thing near the hook point. I always carry a couple pair of pliers fishing for getting hooks out of fish etc. the good ones have where you can cut the extra line after tying on a lure…
I just got some new pliers but I don’t think they can clip the extra line so maybe they aren’t that good. I brought finger nail clippers lol. Thank you for the advice ☺️
.. Great location ,, maybe a multi-day outing at some time and get to explore the other lakes .... with more outings you will develop more confidence .. as other comments have mentioned ,, work on the J-stroke , constant swapping side can get exhausting ,, and carry a double paddle as a second ..... when confronted with wind swells to white caps ,, never get yourself with waves onto your sides , uncomfortable stability and chance of getting flipped ... on rough waters paddle into 1/4 angles ( zig-zag) ,, a little more effort but not likely to turn over ... plus have all your packs & gear tethered to a thwart just in case so you won't lose any ... .. WOW!! that roast beef pot looked awesome .. and agree , when canoe camping ,a few comfort items like a cot to help get better sleep ,,are not much of an issue .. Stay Safe ..
You are 💯 I am feeling more confident with each trip…although I still have a ways to go. I have carried a second double paddle from the start…mostly as a backup in case I lost the single paddle. I now tend to use the double paddle more because of what you described above…at least until I can become more proficient with the J stroke. The zig zag concept you explained makes sense! Thank you! I did hear that I should not travel with waves coming from my side but now that you’ve explained it I understand how to do that while continuing in the direction I need to. I may unfortunately have to ditch the cot if I’m going to be able to handle a true canoe trip with portages. Thank you! And thank you so much for all of your advice ☺️
Great video, showing the difficulties and rewarding experience, what time of year did you film this ? It seemed like the temperature wasn't too extreme
A decent fixed blade knife in your pack will allow you to split down some of the wood that you found to the sizes that you need. You may consider adding this to your pack in the future. I know you have mentioned Alexis outdoors videos and she has a ton where she is processing wood for firewood. It does not have to be a huge knife to do this effectively there are a ton available with around a 4” blade that would do a superb job.
Thank you! I do have a fixed blade knife but haven’t mastered the skill of batoning wood as of yet. I have seen Alexis Outdoors process wood like a pro and hopefully in time will get there 😊😊
Big Isle wilderness and Sylvania wilderness were some of my favorites to camp, this type of camping is sorta like my happy place, I only wish I had cooking skills like you, and I died laughing when you said “people monsters that’ll eat you”, that killed me! I like how you include all the little mishaps on your trips, it’s very relatable, also you’re a very likable person and can see your channel growing, if you choose to, so I hope you continue to get out any chance you get, and don’t get eaten by people monsters!👍
Me too! I love BILW and canoe camping has become my favorite style of camping. Haha it does come with a lot of mishaps since I’m just getting started. Omg have you watched that show?? It’s soo good but I had to completely let it go when I started camping 😂😂 Thank you!! I’m trying to get out as much as I can with work but I will definitely keep going and making videos 😊
I just want to add one more thing, maybe you already know about the J stroke, but incase you haven’t, the J stroke is a paddling technique that allows you to paddle on just one side of your canoe, it’s more efficient compared to the constant flipping of the paddle to your left and right, it’s simple to learn, and when done correctly your canoe will stay more straight and move with a bit more pace too. It’s like riding a bike, all you need is some practice and you will be zooming along, I’ve learned this by watching TH-cam tutorials, so I hope this helps.
Oh you learned by watching tutorials? Thats impressive! I tried it for the first time on my last trip and it felt so awkward. I think I need to watch a few more tutorials lol
@@ApeaceofthewoodsYep, I like watching videos of others out camping, it’s my way of sometimes learning something new and or just getting a taste of it when I’m stuck at home, even after watching your video, now I wanna try to cook a pot roast or something different instead of sticking to my usual and extremely simple meals, like a brat over the fire, so thanks for sharing !👍
This is my first canoe so I don’t have anything else to compare it to. I still think it’s pretty heavy lol. It’s 40lbs so not too easy for me to portage although I can do it. It is not made for big water that’s for sure, but I can appreciate it for a first canoe…
Aww thank you ☺️ Unfortunately it didn’t make it. I still have it…hoping that one day it randomly turns on again and I can use it as a B cam. So far no luck. Thankfully I was able to save the memory card
Never been up there seems nice and calm. A bit windy. I feel like I would get lost without a map. Be safe up there. Do you have a waterproof gopro would be better
Thank you! It’s been a rough go with the filming gear lol. 1. Stop watching the show 😂 2. My original plan of just hoping I never see any hasn’t worked out so still working on this one 3. Wear long sleeve shirts, pants, permethrin and avoiding areas where Deer ticks are most prevalent. I really really appreciate that ☺️☺️ thank you again
A very nice video. It would benefit you to watch some bushcraft/outdoor survival videos and learn what to do in any situation. It pays to have a good pocket knife and a decent survival knife with you as well as multiple fire starting options such as a lighter, matches, Ferro rod, etc. Anyhow, I won't preach atcha. 😂 Thanks for bringing us along on your adventure. 🌳⛺🪵🔥🐟😊
Woooooooooow youre so brave!! , love your content, your cooking looks amazing!!! 😍but can you please find yourself a "handsome outdoorsy dude" to share your adventures with , so that I don't spend every video praying you make it safely back to your car ok!!! 🙏🚘. You just look way too beautiful to be out in those woods alone!!.if there is such a thing? Another thing when you got hit by that pinecone , Ive heard lots of reports of them squatches throwing pine cones at camp sites? , soo please please PLEASE be careful. Wow! You really lucked out finding the camera. There was much to overcome on this trip... BUT YOU STILL MANAGED A 5 🌟 DISH! After a day like this, I'd be eating chef boyardee out of a can! 😅😂
I found it but I wasn’t that lucky lol. It hasn’t turned on since 😩 I ended up having to get another one. Haha I don’t know if it was 5 star but it was pretty good. The trip started out rough but I don’t regret it. I learned a ton on that trip! Thank you for watching 😊
The thumping..bigfoot or ruffed grouse, u will know a ruffed grouse they hold still ubtil u almost step on them then fly up in ur face as do woodcocks. Please invest in a quality pair of hiking boots , Merrell is a good brand, that grub u filmed is great bait, nice trip take care
Hopefully not big foot 😂😂😂 it was a ruffed grouse. I ended up looking it up. I’ll have to watch out for them flying up that way because that would be terrifying! I do have winter hiking boots by Oboz that I like but the Solomon shoes I usually wear are water/hiking shoes so they dry out quickly! Thank you ☺️ you take care too
@Apeaceofthewoods oboz & Solomon are good stuff from what I hear, unfortunately they don't make a wide size for us bigger guys or I'd try them, good luck on them
You know, i love the quality of your videos but the thing i enjoy the most is that you show your mistakes and frustrations. Too many channels are 'perfection'. You show us your learning curves along the way. Im happy that you get out enjoy the outdoors.
Yep, this, big time.
This feedback means a lot ☺️. I really appreciate it. Haha I’m not sure I could show perfect even if I tried 😊😊 Thank you!!
Hope that helps you 😊
Luv and support from 🇨🇦
Love this advice!
Thanks for keeping so much of the sounds of the woods in your videos! It makes it so much like I'm there!
Aww well im happy to hear you feel like you’re there. The sounds and the scenery are what make this place so special 😊
Thank you, I really appreciate that. I will absolutely keep on learning ☺️
Thank you for wearing your PFD when you are on the water. That gust of wind that caught you by surprise is a very good example, (though you probably would've been fine then seeing that you were basically on shore). But just a good reminder that the unexpected is exactly that- unexpected. Better safe than sorry!
Completely agree! The wind came out of no where. There are so many things that can happen it would be silly for me not to wear one
Thankfully you are still safe..keep your eyes and ears and nose open for bigfoot because he likes that kind of country..stay safe❤
You are an attractive young lady. While the areas you are in a usually very very safe, there isn't much law enforcement either. Please consider getting a CPL and at least some basic training to follow it up. Even if you have someone else with you that we don't see. Please consider it and stay safe.
Thank you, I appreciate that. I don’t have anyone else with me and I completely agree with you.
Wind makes solo paddling a canoe so challenging. Sometimes you just need to pause, keep your wits, and make good decisions. You did very well. Kudos!
That’s what I am finding. Something I didn’t fully realize until this trip. Thank you! It was definitely a learning experience ☺️
Peaceful place. I like those areas. Awa from the busy city and at peace. 🌳🌊
I love areas like this too…it can be a journey to get there but completely worth it
@Apeaceofthewoods I never gone that far to see places like this.
@@Apeaceofthewoods you’re absolutely right and thank you!!
Thank you so much! My camera did NOT survive. And then I re-purchased it and broke the lens on the new one. I’ve really struggled with the filming gear lol
@@Apeaceofthewoods Oh no! The camera didn't make it and the new lens broke :( Camera gear in the woods has a rough life, that is for sure!
Thanks for the bird songs in the morning. ❤
One of my favorite parts about camping 😊
As a Michigander I really enjoy camping as well. I went up to a nice area near Petoskey last year and it was great. However since you're camping alone please be careful. It's best to have extra phone chargers, self defense devices, and a first aid kit for sure.
That area is really nice. I can’t wait to get back over that way ☺️ and definitely to everything you mentioned. I am being as safe as I possibly can’t be
Man this makes me want to go camping! Thanks for sharing and please keep making these fun videos!
Haha you should go! Thank you for watching 😊😊
WOODSY, you are amazing, I just found your videos and have watched 3 in total, absolutely amazing, good job
Thank you so much!! 😊😊
Big Island Lake is a beautiful area. I love that the UP gets showcased every once in a while.
It really is so beautiful. There are so many other places in the UP I want to get to!
Looking forward to more adventures !
Thank you!! There will be more hopefully soon ☺️
I appreciate your kind words. And also this advice. You’re speaking the truth. Thank you ☺️☺️
As a Michigan native, it is enjoyable and remind me of boy scouting in the Lower Peninsula.
I am going to get a canoe and start going on camping trips like you do looks like a lot of fun
Haha I hope you do! It’s so much fun
I would do the same ing I ever have land one day ☺️
Durango tailing away from here, looking good Kelly
Supernice video :). Quick tip: When the water is getting a bit choppy, try crossing your feet under your seat. This gives you much more stability in the canoe, by being able to push your knees out to the sides.
I’ll try that! Thank you so much 😊😊
@@Apeaceofthewoods Ooh no. Get down on your knees with your butt against the seat, knees spread. Be prepared to use a low brace.
Hello, fellow Michigander 👋🏻 if you haven't been to pictured rocks yet I highly recommend. Loving the vids so far!
Ok and the Manistee river! Happy camping.

Mannnnnnn that breakfast looked SO good !!!
Oh. forgot to mention you need to learn the "J-stroke". Eliminates the alternate paddle swipes. It's not hard at all.
You seem to be a really good cook!!! And your bravery, in general, is impressive. You have the spirit of an adventurous person and you are super cool

I like these camp sites especially the night time. That roast came out looking really good!
It was a nice island site ☺️ and the roast was so good! Thank you!
Love that idea. Thank you for the tips ☺️ I’ll keep this in mind especially for trips I do this fall
Love it up there ...be sure you take bear soray and know how to use it ...that said coattail lake is awesome if you wanna paddle back there . Enjoy
Also ..a little tip. When you can't get that wood going...make a teepee with the sticks leaving a opening on one side ...slide the stove in there and you will have your fire in no time at all...then slide the stove out . Remember bear spray and a rope to hang you food from tree and don't leave anything like food ,tooth paste etc. in camp.
I’ll have to try that! Thank you!! Need to get better at making fires 😊😊
Also use the underside of trees that are off the ground..(hung up). Alot of times that's a good area to search for deter wood .

Again, nice. I'm learning a lot about the U.P! It looks really beautiful. You seem to make some exquisite meals camping. Oh yeah, ..., "From" is a great show. Not sure we'll another season though.
You are the first person who has actually seen the show! I actually hope there isn’t another season because I know I won’t refrain from watching and it the last thing I want to be thinking about while camping.
@@Apeaceofthewoods ,😅!
Great content from a beautifully stunning lady! You're killing it! Kee up the great work!
Aww Thank you!! I really appreciate that. Hopefully I’ll get to do more trips sooner than later ☺️☺️☺️

@@Apeaceofthewoods Good to know I'll keep a lookout for a new 1 😄
I love how authentic your videos are. With so many outdoor channels, everything just seems perfect, but you show the real struggles and challenges. May I ask what canoe you have? Mine's from the '70s and it weighs a ton. I'd really like to get something lighter.
Aww I appreciate that ☺️ I have an Esquif Adirondack. It’s 40lbs but it’s really tough and can handle being banged around a bit
i love your enduring sprit. i watched your other 2 videos first and i would like to suggest a piece of equipment if your going to play in the UP. its a big place and if your walking in the wrong direction your can go for a long ways without seeing anybody. so all that said, if you dont have one of these you should very much consider getting one. this model is my personal favorite Garmin eTrex Legend its an older model but very user friendly. i like my slightly newer color screen one best its the Legend Cx (it seems to have a little more power and picks up more satellites).
🙂
@@ottisthedog3544 This is so helpful! Thank you for all the info. I actually will look into getting one
I’m happy to hear that ☺️ amazing area to grow up. I’d love to live up there! I plan to get over to the west side of the state more this fall/winter!

It may have been mentioned in the other comments, but the “thumping” you heard was likely a Ruffed Grouse drumming. A quick TH-cam search will show you what it looks like. The sound can really carry through the forest.
I ended up googling it afterwards because it was happening non stop. I didn’t imagine that sound coming from a bird!

You inspire me Woodsy keep it up!
Aww that’s amazing to hear. Thank you ☺️
Beautiful 🥰
Thank you ☺️☺️
Great video, showing the difficulties and rewarding experience, what time of year did you film this ? It seemed like the temperature wasn't too extreme
Thank you!! 😊 This trip was May 9. The weather on this trip was actually perfect! Lows in the 40s highs 60s
You're like Disney Princess Pocahontas, paddling your canoe in the forest streams.
Haha love that. My favorite Disney movie growing up ☺️
7 hr drive back home ! HOLY MOLY ! The Pot Roast made all of a sudden made me hungry 🤣😂…
Yes! Takes a while to get up there for sure but it’s worth it. 🤣🤣
So very beautiful 🤗❤️🌹
Thank you ☺️☺️☺️
A decent fixed blade knife in your pack will allow you to split down some of the wood that you found to the sizes that you need.
You will get better at this just carryon dont over think this
Great advice
I'm sure that's a great canoe for portages, but wow it is narrow, and that seat being that high up I'd be tippin over for sure.
This is my first canoe so I don’t have anything else to compare it to. I still think it’s pretty heavy lol. It’s 40lbs so not too easy for me to portage although I can do it. It is not made for big water that’s for sure, but I can appreciate it for a first canoe…
You could never ever neglect or abuse your own safety. Stick with your intuitions.
Later Gator ✨🇺🇸
I completely agree
Maybe go to Isle Royale National Park next summer. Hike from one end to the other. I think you would enjoy it.
This has been on my mind for a while. I would love to go. Trying to figure out what kind of timeframe would make sense
Great video, love your can do attitude. What happened with your camera?
Aww thank you ☺️ Unfortunately it didn’t make it. I still have it…hoping that one day it randomly turns on again and I can use it as a B cam. So far no luck. Thankfully I was able to save the memory card
Never been up there seems nice and calm. A bit windy. I feel like I would get lost without a map. Be safe up there. Do you have a waterproof gopro would be better
I do have a waterproof GoPro now lol. It’s actually fairly easy to navigate this area but I did use a map ☺️ thank you!
@@Apeaceofthewoods welcome can't wait for more
so sorry about your camera. so, what's your plan to handle those three fears. love your videos, they're honest, brave and vulnerable.
I live in northern Michigan and have noticed over the last few years how much windier it is with heavy gusting.
Diggin this…just subscribed!
I’m glad ☺️ thank you!!
I completely agree! I’m working on it learning as much as I can but there is so much I need to learn. Thank you for coming along ☺️☺️☺️☺️
Beautiful spot 😊😊
It’s such a beautiful spot ☺️
@Apeaceofthewoods looks real beautiful 😍
@Apeaceofthewoods love the lake there too 😊
The thumping is either bigfoot or just the wind in your mic. Prayers 😁
Well it wasn’t the wind in the mic 😂
@@Apeaceofthewoods I will refrain from my bigfoot joke..
Outdoorsy and cute 😍
Thanks ☺️
Gorgeous!
Not sure how many more videos my nerves can endure lol. Sending you lots of love n prays from the UK🇬🇧. You are Amazing ❤ 218 NCSWIC.
Aww I appreciate you ☺️☺️☺️. I’m sure one day I’ll be sharing these adventures with someone else. For now I’m enjoying them solo. If that was a Sasquatch throwing pine cones im not too worried 😂 seems pretty innocent. I will absolutely continue being careful but thank you for caring and being concerned. And thank you for all of the love and prayers!! ❤️❤️❤️

your list of fears cracked me up. and that roast looked very tasty! you are a real trooper. I've got a dry bag \ backpack too,, love it!
Haha I’m happy they made you laugh ☺️ The roast turned out better than I thought out there! They work pretty well, but I always pack way too much stuff!
@@Apeaceofthewoods yeah, i hear ya. ive camped, hiked, canoed and hunted or fished for most of my life and i still overpack. you know what they say,, better to have it and not need then,,,yada yada yada..lol
😂
come down to florida sometime and travel the st johns! its gorgeous, and youll see animal life like no other place in north america. good video, pretty face. hope to watch the channel grow.
That’s a beautiful river. Maybe one day! Thank you and thank you for watching 😊😊
@@Apeaceofthewoods absolutely, glad your channel popped up haha
