We think that Jason's moral-ethical dilemma here is very interesting because when he first found out that he was going to be a father back in 2007 he could have told the truth to Sam and could have made adjustments in his lifestyle for his son and for Michael if he truly wanted to. However, he was given the choice and Jason chose the business and his lifestyle. Besides the fact that he chose to be complicit on a web of lies orchestrated by Elizabeth. Now, two (2) years later Jason wants to change his lifestyle for Michael. We asked ourselves why he didn't think about his son and Michael before everything happened when there was time to prevent all of the tragic events that led to Michael being forced to kill Claudia. We have said it a couple of times before, Jason's character throughout the years had made some highly questionable moral choices that makes him seemed inconsistent to the steady, cool, calmed and collected person he was supposed to be. Interesting to us is the fact that many of those choices happened whenever Michael or Sam have been involved. Jason had always been supportive of Michael and he had always been there for him. However that had not always been the case when it comes to Sam. We wondered why the writers had always decided to show us a sympathetic Jason for Michael and everyone else but not for Sam. Said fact it is truly beyond our understanding. He has always been there for Carly, Sonny, Robin, Spinelli, Elizabeth, basically for everyone but when Sam needed him the most he failed her miserably. He failed her in the worst way possible. Let's take a walk through memory lane. In 2007, when Sam needed Jason to remain truthful to his word and to be honest he wasn't. He chose to lie, deceit, cheat and betray. Jason decided to live in a web of lies by compromising himself over and over again without thinking about the consequences of his actions. At the time, besides breaking trust, Jason also broke a lot of promises he had made to Sam. Furthermore, instead of understanding the magnitude of what he did and the damage he caused he went on to inflict more pain by blackmailing and giving out death threats. Which by the way such actions in and by themselves constituted an abusive behavior on his part and are sanctioned by law, especially by Domestic Violence Statutes at state and federal level. Notwithstanding the aforementioned, Sam and Jason forgave each other. That is certainly possible, especially if there is no pattern of abuse and there were extenuating circumstances. We can say that in this case there was no pattern and indeed there were extenuating circumstances. However, there was no excuse for Jason's behavior. That is not to say that Sam was excused but she was the victim of the circumstances created by Jason and Elizabeth. They broke her down. The sad thing is that the writers never made those characters acknowledged what they did and how much damaged they caused. Sam was the only one that suffered the consequences of her actions nobody else did. However, going back to our main argument, after Sam and Jason forgave each other and got married. Jason promised Sam to have and to hold her for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish her until death part them. But when the time came for Jason to proof himself, once again, he let her down in the worse possible way. He left her alone to deal with her pregnancy and the whole rape aftermath. At the time it shouldn't have mattered anything that Sam did or said. The only thing that should have mattered to Jason should have been three (3) simple facts: 1. Sam was his wife. 2. She was raped and was traumatized by the fact that her rapist was Franco who was allegedly Jason fraternal twin brother. 3. She was pregnant. It was totally unfair the way Jason came down on her after he found out about Robin's death. It was a total overreaction. Afterwards, the way Jason started to lean on Elizabeth, again, was totally disrespectful and uncalled for. There was too much history between all of them for him to think that Sam was not going to be hurt. Nevermind, that once he found out that the baby was Franco he forgot all the promises he made on his wedding day. We expected more from Jason, who asked Sam before he proposed to her to trust him. This is the problem that we have with the writers every single time that Jason needed to come through for Sam he failed miserably and he did it with flying colors. So, the moral-ethical dilemma that he seemed to be having at this particular time in this episode didn't sit well with us because he had plenty of opportunities to solve this issue and he had chosen not to do so. The writers really needed to make up their minds because having Jason with this type of indecisiveness was not typical of his character. It made him looked like a total hypocrite and fickle person. Blessed be!
@TBSManning i agree with you on everything except for Sonny being able to change... i don't think he could at this point. it was when he tried starting to be legit with that coffee house that got Michael shot because Sonny was lax. he's been in the business WAY 2 long to get out now, he has 2 many enemies to ever go legit unless he wants to hide out on some island away from everyone he cares about for the rest of his life. the only way Sonny can get it is by death whether he stays in or leaves.
@gigga143 I'm usually in agreement with you, gigga. i gotta take a different line on this one, though. we know Sonny needs money, power and control. the mob was the first thing he knew that gave it to him. there are other kinds of jobs/ppl that have money, power and control. Mob is easier for Sonny. He knows it. Sonny rarely does what is good/right for others if it will inconvenience HIM. I think that is why he stays. I don't think it is because he cannot change, but because he will not. JMO
@50patrice oh i'm not saying Sonny doesn't have his flaws or that his need to never feel powerless or not in control doesn't play a HUGE factor in why he's stayed with the mob so long. i think in the earlier days he could've gotten out had he felt the need but IMO at this point of his mob career there is no leaving. i believe the same is true for Jason leaving the mob at this point. with the amount of reach & power they have, they've made too many enemies to just go off & live normal lives.
