Now that was a killer review! You are the man. I was debating getting one for my 7 and 4 year old kids. You sealed the deal for me. Can't wait to jam with them.
Great vid! I have one of these coming for my son who is 5 now. He really likes electronic music and has shown interest in making it, so this seemed like a logical gift choice.
Get a controller with it. My older kids 5-7 prefer playing it that way. Either a sequencer with two midi channels or just even a keyboard controller. Enjoy!
Great video you have convened my wife and I to get one for our daughter! I also just saw a promotional video for the sampler they are releasing I'm looking forward to seeing your take on it.
Glad it was helpful! I left some links in the description for the other versions if you are interested. This Sk2 won't be available until November so it might make a great Christmas gift. If not, the After Dark Edition is the closest to this with all it's features. They love the flashing lights when they are super little and the throttles!
@@Tiger.Arcade I forgot about Christmas I'll have to get my daughter one for it. Oh as a side note you should check out the mystic circuits 0hp modules I finally did and they are great for expanding modular and semi modular synths and they are all passive units.
@@Tiger.Arcade I randomly discovered them on perfect circuit while looking for desktop standalone modular units for my frankensynth. Then checked out some demo videos and was impressed with the added functionality (there is a demo with DFMA, and the mother 32 using them).
I love the Blipblox(s) - I've got the white and dark one, my kids love them, and I think they're fun to use in songs as well. Great MIDI IN implementation, works great.
Are there enough to feature to justify holding off on buying an After Dark to buy this instead, or is it similar enough to not worry and dive in to the brand now?
Hey Penny, I think you would be fine with getting the after dark edition if you don't plan on using their additional samples and sequences as found in the SK2. This one has the same synth engine and menu as the after dark edition. Again, if you will use it more for midi, the after dark should be fine. Thanks for watching.
hi, is it possible to change the leds to be more “calm” like the afterdark e.g.? the light show looks to get pretty crazy sometimes, i want to buy one for my little son and am a bit concerned about his psychological health after playing and watching it for a while 😊 i know they can be turned off but on the other hand he loves little ligths so i would preffer just to change the setup for more slowlier and peacefull frequency. is that possible?
In the sense of syncing them? No. If you played midi with the Blipblox and then let the beat play itself you could play them along together. The beat is a better standalone piece or to play an instrument along with it.
@@Tiger.ArcadeI thank you for your kind reply. Sorry, I am a neophyte but curious. I would like to give a Blipbox to my daughter (9 years old) and together I would like to match a simple and fun rhythm base so that the two can be synchronized. Please, which machine could you recommend that is not too expensive?
@@mitchcocchi the Blipblox has two midi channels. One for drums and the other for synth. You could use two midi controllers possibly to control both separately. If not, and you want them exclusive as instruments then yeah I’d suggest a drum machine. Korg, teenage engineering and behringer have affordable drum machines. Idk your budget so not too expensive is subjective.
I bought it and it feels super cheaply made and that’s my only concern. Like the power supply cord wouldn’t even plug in properly type of cheap. For 200+ I don’t expect this type of made in cheap China feel. The power button feels like those cheap ones that eventually get stuck behind the little hole cuz they’re so badly constructed It feels like a child will break it pretty quickly… or like it will crap out before that happens My child is having fun but I’m disappointed I’d gladly play more for better construction
10:22 you’re a synth by itself brother!!! great video btw

My 2 year old would love this lol I don’t think she would understand at all but it would entertain her for hours 😂
The younger ones do need a bit more guidance but they love the levers, knobs and flashing lights.

I have an Arturia Minilab too. That should be interesting. @@Tiger.Arcade
I find it a wonderful thing to introduce my daughters to the world of synthesis and for their father to play for a while too😂😂
Exactly! It’s a win win situation 😂
Great demo and review
Thank you!

The Midi really opens up a whole new world for this instrument imo!

Does your Magnus electric chord organ work? I have one as well (no legs)
It does work actually, just super noisy. I’m impressed you recognized it
Great review! Is it possible to turn off the built-in speaker?
Thank you Mika. The speaker turns off automatically once the audio jack out is plugged in.
Is it possible to turn off the lights?
Yes!
@@Tiger.Arcade Thanks!

I dunno. Looks a little woke.
A synth targeted from children to adults that looks like it belongs in buzz light years spaceship is woke? Next comment. 🥱
hahaha it looks horrible😂
I think due to it being designed to be aesthetically pleasing towards a younger audience.
