I LOVE when you say stock market crashes are once in a decade opportunities ! I started investing at the peak in august 2019 and it started going down and I wanted so bad to sell but I didn’t end up doing but I also did not buy more .. And then it went back up and I realised I had missed an opportunity. So glad I realised that a year ago ! When it started going down in february this year, I started investing a lot .. So glad I learned that life lesson a year ago and was able to do some dollar cost averaging during the current situation :) great video BTW 😊

this book intelligent investor is a hefty book but actually so plainly laid out across so many pages, it becomes very clear, soon after reading, just how useful it was to have gone over the material within.
That said I appreciate a lot of the bullet points in this, I am currently looking at recovering gains, am not really technically down contributions only down profit. I won on international trucks and AMD last year. +33% overall. Considering cutting losses.
One thingI personally do is leave the profit in a stock, the equivalent gains stay within and i move my contribution into a new area. Worked last year and I mean this year just keeping money still, and dollar cost averaging.

So confused with interpretation of point #8. I'm totally new, so sorry if this seems like a silly question, but are you saying that we shouldn't track (research) a stock's performance before deciding whether or not to invest? Doesn't a person need to look at the data to make an informed decision?

    • @wuziwu8148
      @wuziwu8148 4 ปีที่แล้ว

It depends on what you believe the intrinsic value of the company is. If the company is selling for $20 a share and you believe it's worth $17, then buy below that price. Some people might be comfortable with buying at $16, somebody else might be only trying to 'get rich' and buy for $10.
You would need to look at the balance sheet to evaluate the company and its cash flow and debt to determine intrinsic value.
Alternatively you can DCA (Dollar cost average), every paycheck put a consistent amount of money into a stock or ETF (say $100). You buy more shares when markets are low, and less when they are high. The advantage of this is you don't need to constantly evaluate a company, and you don't need to stress about market fluctuations. Assuming the underlying asset is stable, you will succeed in the long term.
I suggest using ETFs over stocks (owning 1000 stocks instead of 1), unless you are comfortable putting all your eggs (cash) into one asset.

You say we should only invest for the long term and not put aside immediate expense money elsewhere i.e. not "over invest".
What's the best way to manage these savings? Are there some specific ETFs or Mutual Funds (short term, debt, hybrid etc) that I can store this money into and take out as and when needed, rather than just sitting in a bank account?

  • @dillianvramov

Awesome video, Brandon! Greetings from Montreal, new subscriber but long time viewer of your content! On the topic of #4 "Never trusting Media headlines", it is absolutely true. Remember, everyone in the financial world has some interest and agenda. If someone tells you a certain stock will skyrocket, they're trying to make you buy stock, which will increase its price on the stock market. The opposite, a statement that 'judgement day' is coming and a stock or a sector will come down crashing targets easily spooked shareholders that will panic and sell their positions, which will drive the price down and make the hedge fund that shorted that stock millions. I am sticking to ETFs. I am a financial pussy, afraid to take much of a risk, and I like the passive approach.

If you own an ETF you can own an entire country (or world) of publicly traded stocks at once. The S&P 500 ETF has never lost money over 15 years. On average (depending on total country ETF) expect a 6-8% annual rate of return.
Individual companies can be much riskier, nobody truly knows what will happen in 5 years. A company can go bankrupt, or you can 10x your money in risky assets. Bad media news can easily drop the stock price 10%+. You can own secure companies that raise dividends every year that are unlikely to go bankrupt like coca cola.
Although you can own ETFs that focus on secure high dividend companies. So instead of owning only coca cola, you own 50 companies instead (I believe its ticker NOBL)
You can control your risk tolerance with ETFs by mixing and matching (look up Monte Carlo Simulation to back-test portfolio using historical data).
In a nutshell, ETFs provide less risk of loss like bankruptcy while owning the market; stocks are riskier but this also means you're more likely to multiply you're money faster while risking bankruptcy depending on company. Do you want to retire in 20 years safely, or do you want to retire in 5 years with high chance of failure?
John Bogle once said 'Don't find the needle, buy the haystack'

If you're eager to start investing at 20, start with ETFs. But please read as many books as possible, and follow the stocks/companies of interest. As time goes on you'll have a better idea of how to properly invest and how much into which stocks.

It can be really cool and highly profitable applying the right strategy of course but given the current volatility the màrket, It would be advisable to get yourself and experienced and verified ínvestment adviser. An expert who has a vast knowledge of the market with a well proven strategy. I'm currently working with one, his name is Brandon D. Lewis and he's been mànaging my portfolío for close to a year now and I average profitable returns between $5,000-$1,850 bi-weekly. I strongly recommend you get in touch with him at *brandon4trades (at) g m a i I. c o m* Do it and thank me later.

7:14 I know this is a rookie question, but I don't get what this means? You lose that space forever? How come? Doesnt that mean you should only invest in a TSFA instead? Also I just dont get how you lose that space. Anyone care to explain for the beginner that I am?
