The Phoenix Models are excellent. I had the Giles 202 and loved it. That airplane had a spin rate higher than any RC airplane I've ever had and I've had hundreds of them over the years. The fiberglass was excellent and the paint was very nice. I sure wish I could get my hands on another one of those Giles 202's!
Kind of surprising to see them building models for other brands, but when you builds planes in batches it’s no surprise to have surplus production capacity. Seeing a wall full of Dazzlers was a neat surprise. That was a plane I remember seeing in the catalogs when I was younger and only just got one second hand last year. The plane is a lot of fun but the stick on covering leaves a lot to be desired compared to an iron on. It made covering repairs difficult since the two kinds are not easily compatible.
This is a perfect example of one man's hobby and pleasure is another's work. We think building models is a joy.....then do 100 a day haha not so much fun after all specially with quotas to meet.
Phoenix Model is my first rc airplane. I learn rc flying used the 40size high wing trainer, then upgrade to next level with the 40size Scanner low wing trainer. Owned n flew the 40size Space Walker as well. Nice!
You can still build from scratch, if you desire. I have a few I have built. I also have several Phoenix models, the latest being the A-26 Invader. Though it was pre-built with high quality, I still have about $3,500 into it, with engines, telemetry, and radio gear. I could not however, build it any better, than these wonderful factory workers, who do it every day. Also, there is no way that my collection would be over 40 strong, without buying some ARF's. I do wish, they would kit the Piper Comanche again, as mine crashed on it's third flight, due to radio failure, and not the model. It flew like a dream! Only next time, actually give it some wheel wells for retracts, as the Comanche was never built with fixed gear! The laminar flow wing, was a delight! My telemetry showed it passing 135 mph on it's way down to bury the engine under ground!
Amazing video! It's nice to be able to see where all those beautiful models come from. Phoenix models are all high quality, good flying machines judging from the one's at our model field. Thanks for sharing an informative video!
Just was on TOWER HOBBIES and they only have a few Phoenix Models in stock now. How come??? Also I'd like to see a NEW factory video from Phoenix Models PLEASE!!!
Year 2250 Grandpa: I remember back in my day the CNC machine would take 2 hours to cut those parts and we had to sand them smooth once it had finished . No high tech replicators in my day and we had to Uber to school in the snow up hill both ways.
Yes don't go out of business. We enjoy the fruits of your labor building something you'll never get to enjoy because you're too busy slaving for a communist government.
Was not possible to get an assembled plane when i was a boy...we have become soooooo lazy. Most of the fun was making the plane before you went out and crashed it due to no flight simulator being available.😡
I produced R/C, C/L and FF models in the 90's under the name 'Phoenix Models' based in Leicestershire. I am glad I didn't invest any more time or money into it than I did as I could never have competed with this kind of production. Its all about cheque book modelling these days and not the aeromodelling I am used to, each to his own!
Very interesting, these young people seems so skillful and fast in assembling components of the model. I've been flying model airplanes for five years now and I like the quality of Phoenix models. I wish I could assemble my ARF's as fast as these young people do.
Cool video, thanks for sharing. I'm building my first Phoenix Models plane right now, a Super Decathlon mk.2 .46. I've built high end arfs from many of the top brands and have to say that the over-all quality of this airframe is very good, and comparable to the more expensive brands where it really counts. It is definitely a great value over-all. All of the major components are well built and nicely finished. I must say though, that most of the included hardware is junk. I would not trust it for my model, so I am replacing all of it. I would like to see either the hardware completely removed from the kit and a lower price, or much better hardware and a reasonably higher price. I highly recommend this plane, but would say plan on spending an extra $30-40 to put some high quality hardware on it. It is also a very solid base for modifying. I put a Saito FA-100 AAC in mine, mounted inverted, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the engine and exhaust (with a 90deg. elbow on the exhaust) fits inside the cowl and built-in exhaust tunnel with no cutting required, and the already generous cooling vents should be more than sufficient. I mounted a mini servo on the firewall for throttle control, and mounted the elevator and rudder servos in the tail, one for each, and connected the elevators with piano wire. That's basically where I'm at now, only things left to do are final install of the receiver, battery, fuel tank, cabin door, black trim and other cosmetic finishing touches. Wish me luck on the maiden! I will probably need it since I haven't flown in a couple years!
Very interesting insight into the model building process. These ladies certainly appear to be expert builders! I'd be interested in knowing how they build the different models and how many they produce in a week. Do they build the same model over a stretch of time and then move on to a different one, so on and so on?
Phoenix makes some fantastic airplanes that are not only very nicely built, they look great and fly fantastic ! I have four of there planes and I have been very impressed with the quality , excellent craftsmanship, excellent fiberglass parts with perfect paint, covering always looks great, hardware that I can actually use vs. Replacing it. At one Sky RC we can confidently recomend Phoenix models to our students and RC pilots wanting top quality without the out of reach price tag !
One Sky R/C Do you own or know someone that does have the 94" Stuka that they produce ? I'm considering purchasing one and thought I'd get some feedback . Looks like a good quality for the $ . Want to put a kolm 4stroke in it ; )
And each one looks exactly like the other. When I finish building a model, I know at least two things. It's built correctly, and it's the only one like it in the world. There's definitely some value in that.
