I am Lao, why we splash or pour some water to each other, our beliefs for thousands years firstly is to cleaning or washing out all the bad lucks or things off, refresh yourself and family friends for 3 days before entering to the New year, we also get out to water and wishing eachother a lot of lucks and happiness healthy because it is the hot season during these days 😊

No, Lao new year is not about celebrating anybody's deity. There are Lao New Year, Thai New Year, Sri Lanka New Year, Khmer New Year, Burma New Year, and Dai New Year which ALL happens the same day. It is the celebration of the movement of the Sun which is so called "New Year". The cleansing part is correct.
