    You had a couple of valid points. But a GTO is not for everybody. A GTO is for those truly unique individuals that wants to be different and does not want to own the typical Camaro, Mustang or Challenger.

      EXACTLY! and that is why I love this car. It was hard for me to come up with things I "hate" they are all just things about the car that make it what it is. Also just a video trend I wanted to do, but in reality I absolutely love my GTO and will never get rid of it.

    You bring up some great points! But one of my biggest pet peeves is how literally everything in the car is electric. The seats, and gas cap cover are the ones that bother me the most. I absolutely love the car though, I have to really try to find things I don't like about it.

  • @peachferrari

    I somewhat agree with some of this, but I have an 06 and absolutely love it. I daily drove it for a few years and now don't have to, but I love it every time I get into it. The gas tank was originally under the car and made the trunk a lot bigger but US standards forced it to it's current location, so blame government oversight on that one. The biggest issue with mine is the cooling system--I've had to replace the radiator, water pump, thermostat, basically the whole system at one point or another. But when you get in there and replace most of the stock rubber bushings with poly it makes a huge difference and feels a lot better.
    I also found it interesting that you said there's no aftermarket support and then only mentioned some appearance stuff. I have a full exhaust including stainless long tube headers, a short-throw shifter, a performance intake manifold, a one-piece driveshaft, all the poly bushings I mentioned before, and yes some appearance stuff like the SAP front grilles made by GTOG8TA who makes a lot of repro SAP stuff for example.

    • @AustinPhilbeck
      @AustinPhilbeck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes completely agree with you! I've had the car for about 8 years and daily drove it for 5 years. The car has always been amazing to me and absolutely love it. When making this video I was being VERY nit picky. My main gripe about the aftermarket support is for appearance modifications. There are just so few options when it comes to making the car look any different with just a few small companies such as GTOG8TA and MAVMAN who makes incredible products but can't keep up with orders. I think theres a big market for people in this community wanting to modify theirs to look differently from the next guys; maybe getting a new carbon hood or different style wing. Theres just few options comparatively to other platforms/chassis.

    I agree on many of the issues... I own a 04 GTO in Finland in Europe, where they were never sold as new, and the only ones are private imports from the USA. I got mine because I’m a fan of Australian cars, have owned the car since 2008 already. But even the car is super rare in the whole continent, it really doesn’t fit into any category or car event here. The traditional muscle car guys don’t care about the car as it doesn’t look like a muscle car and is too new for them, the modern muscle car guys (Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, Charger etc) don’t care about the car as it doesn’t look like an American muscle car or have any retro look, the Japanese and European car guys don’t care for the car as it’s not Japanese or European... the sports car and grand touring car guys don’t even allow the car to enter their events as they claim that is just a muscle car and not a grand touring car... so everybody keeps telling that ”go to events for your car” and there are so few of these cars that of course there aren’t any events for just these cars... it would kind of fit to any of those events and cars, but nobody basically welcomes the 04-06 GTO to any event here. It’s too Australian or European style to the American car guys, too American for the European and Japanese car guys, too muscle car to the sports and grand touring car guys etc... I’ve been trying to defend the car for over 12 years but with no luck in many cases... and these are so unique cars! (And talk about finding parts for these here in North-Eastern corner of Europe, where they were never even sold as new and where General Motors has pulled away officially... I have to order even basic parts from the USA or Australia...) Still love the car for it’s uniqueness, looks and performance. Most people just seem to want to have and see the same car than everybody else (be it a Mustang, M3 or a Nissan...). Of course there are SOME people who get it.

    As a guy who is within a month or two of pulling the trigger on one of these cars, I can understand your complaints but I see all of these issues as being a result of the GTO being a somewhat rare collectible. The way I see it, you’re driving a car that wasn’t produced in huge numbers to begin with. As of today, they’ve been out of production for sixteen years. Having only been sold for three years, and being out of production for that long, these issues can be expected.
    I see them as a perfect car for a muscle car guy who wants to be a little different, and not follow the crowd. They’re more refined than something like a Mustang in terms of interior comfort. They’re more practical than a Corvette. Yet, even after all these years they will hang with those cars all day long.
    I’m currently a Mustang guy, and have been for a lot of years. My next purchase is likely to be my last car due to health reasons. For as much as I’d like to buy a new Coyote powered Mustang GT, I feel that a like new GTO will be more comfortable, looks more appropriate for a family man, yet has the power to remain competitive with the Ford 5.0, and does it for less money.
    Besides... even though people argue that these cars aren’t “real” GTO’s, I would beg to differ. General Motors calls them GTO, their registration paperwork says GTO, and they certainly have the muscle car recipe down pat. Sweet cars for sure.

Holden was a car company started and owned by General Motors, so the GTO is no different than any of the other GM cars which shared similar platforms.

    This gto was the first factory backed entry into formula drift. Rhys Mullen Racing, RMR made a complete body kit that he ran in FD. Not sure if they still sell it but it’s on their site. There used to be a lot of aftermarket crap but no one bought it cause it sucked so it’s all discontinued.
    You can get camber strut tops from PSR in Australia. gforce engineering did a conversion for a foxbody strut so you could have done that as well but again no longer made. Ksport makes a set of coilovers with the adjustable camber too.
    Lastly, the Australians made all sorts of cool whacky shit for these cars. Go brows Ebay.au and you’ll find some of it.

    • @AustinPhilbeck
      @AustinPhilbeck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honey I know thats why the fuel tank is there. I'm explaining in the video that because of that it causes the trunk to be smaller. No one on this planet likes when they have a small trunk. I also know that the Monaro and Vauxhall facelifts could be applied to the car but technically thats still an OEM option, just an option that wasn't offered in America. The aftermarket for this car is huge considering performance upgrades but the after market community for the physical body of this car is small, Most people in America will go the SAP route or get Mavman stuff but thats about the only options. Thank you for your view.

    I've heard there's a fuel tank relocation available, but you have single-side exhaust like the '04, and it's off of the earlier Holden models, so you would have to import it from Australia.

      I'm aware of the kits that are available I'm just personally not a fan of the way they are designed. Just in my own personal opinion (which is what this entire video is based around) I just don't like the options that are present for GTO's I feel like the Battle Aero kit is the most appealing but I think it is a little too aggressive for my taste.

      Honestly the cars are suppose to handle incredibly well if the right suspension mods are done. If you're thinking about doing autocross or anything similar they are supposed to be pretty solid chassis for it. Look at Matt Farah's (the smoking tire) review on the gto they talk about it!

    5 reasons I hate my gto. 1. Gas 2. Tires. 3. Oil😅😅😅 actually the only issues I’m having w mine is sticky door locks, probably needs linkage lubed. Headliner sag, needs replaced. My driver/passenger seats leather is pretty dried out. Considering its age not really that crazy to have these 3 minor issues.

    • @AustinPhilbeck
      @AustinPhilbeck 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not what I was saying. I was talking about the offset of the wheels. The wheel is is 10 inches wide with an offset of 25. Which is a high offset. They aren't crazy deep dish wheels and they already stick out past the fenders. If I put a proper tire on MY wheel. 275 for example they'd stick out. But even if I had a HIGHER offset wheel with a 275 thats the biggest possible tire you can put on a gto without doing a mini tub.

    I didn't buy my '05 to race or show but to cruise. That is why my #1 hate is the cruise control. My Pontiac GrandPrix's cruise is easy to set and always on unless I turn it off.. not so with the GTO. Also.. who rides in the back seat? I'm thinking of eliminating the back seat for more cargo room on trips. I LIKE that the goat doesn't stand out like the typical muscle car. That is the tradition of GTO.. an ordinary looking sleeper that you don't notice until it passes you.

    • @AustinPhilbeck
      @AustinPhilbeck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm I've never thought of the cruise control thing. It is rather weird that its on the turn signal but I don't mind it. Its never bothered me! But I do enjoy your input! Still love the car of course but there are some weird things about it that could be better.

    285 Michelins, 10.5" wheels, lowered, within the fender, but must have the exact correct offset, rolled fenders. there are some awesome aftermarket items for the GTO: KW coilovers, Baer brakes, DSS carbon fiber driveshaft, and so forth. nonetheless, entertaining video.

    I do understand Americans not being happy having a gto badge on a Holden Monaro but I do not understand how you can say that the Australian Monaro / gto is not in the same class as a muscle car and isn't fast in a straight line when it has an LS corvette engine, transmission, and German opal suspension, and it is a fact that a standard Monaro / gto will leave any standard American gto in the dust, it out runs, out handles, out corners and out breaks the classics and leaves them for dead in every way with only half the fuel, no contest, so how can you say they are not a fast car in a straight line nor are they classed as a muscle car, the classic gto's are a nice car I do like them but they cannot keep up with any Monaro / gto, it doesn't make sense. the MonGTO is in fact a world class muscle car. as for no body kits have you seen the HSV GTO, HSV GTS, and the limited edition all wheel drive HSV Monaro, plenty of body kits, side skirts and how wide do wheels have to be. If you don't like your car, why did you buy it, and the reason why the the trunk is so small is because American law demanded that Australia move the tank from under the trunk to behind the seat if they wanted to export to the US the original Monaro had t tank below the trunk with a big trunk capacity but was changed at the request of the American for rear end collisions and fire's and Holden commodore taillights are compatible. and if you don't like the car, simply get rid of it, and if you want wider wheels and a bigger trunk on your car, take it to west coast Customs you've seen the show and the HSV Maloo ute / pickup truck did come out with fender vents and then theirs the HSV Grange with compatible parts. ( food for thought dude )
