Xandria has had a bit of a difficult time keeping singers. Their first singer, who at the time went by Lisa Middelhauve (nee Schaphaus), was with the group for the longest length of time, from 2000 until roughly 2008. Middelhauve was her married name, as she ended up marrying the bassist, Nils Middelhauve, in 2005. She was the singer on the group's first four albums. She left the group in 2008 due to personal differences and discomfort of being the band's frontwoman. She also recently divorced Nils and now goes by Elizabeth Rodermund. There were a few other intermittment vocalists before and after her, but they never stuck around long enough to be featured on any main albums. Thus, the second main singer was Manuela Kraler. She was only on one album, Neverworld's End. She, too, left due to being uncomfortable as the group's frontwoman. Dianne van Giersbergen then joined and was on the band's last two albums, and I agree that she was so incredible in the group I wish we could have heard more of her with the band. Unfortunately, she did eventually have to leave because the band was negatively affecting her mental health, to the point where she was being extorted for money and her time if she didn't perform by other members of the group, namely Marco Heubaum, the band's founder, who has way too big of an ego for his own good. Now we have Ambre Vuorvahis. I hope that Marco can calm his ego and she doesn't end up like the rest.

You need to check out Dianne’s main band Ex Libris, particularly their latest Ann trilogy… 3 songs each about 3 famous Ann’s out together as one album. Each set tells a story This new singer is great. She growls too
Xandria has a long history with more downs than ups. At the beginning the management wanted direct and hard competition with Nightwish. With a more serious and relaxed way they could have had a big place in the genre.
Great song; very glad that they keep the path from the last 2 albums... But, really Tauri, loving symphonic metal and not even knowing THERION is a contradiction, since it's THERION who created this genre and established all it's layers. You can't imagine the magnificence of their music, otherwise you would have reacted not to one, but to more songs (they have more than 100). "To Megatherion" (first symphonic metal hit, the song that changed music), "Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah" (justjen said "this is f****ing awesome" and even started singing it), "Ginnungagap", "Blood of Kingu" and more and more masterpieces. Well, I hope someday we will see your face in awe when you discover this band. The best orchestration, the best choirs, the best metal soprano (Lori Lewis), the best bass lines, the best guitar player in symphonic metal (Kristian Niemann), and the best composer in the world (Christopher Johnson)... No need for that tone, Sir. It's perfectly possible not to know a band. And it can be argued that the roots of Symphonic Metal go back to the 1970s with Deep Purple's "Concerto for Group and Orchestra".

I wrote it as a friendly advice to someone who loves a music genre and still don't know one of the main bands (as you said, it's perfectly possible not to know a band), but if you have detected something rude, I assure you it was not my intention (English is not my native language and I try to do the best I can).About the roots of symphonic metal, well, everybody can have their opinion; mine is that adding orchestration to already existing metal songs is not symphonic metal; symphonic metal is when the orchestration is specifically composed for a song, and though they had been some previous songs (Celtic Frost), as a genre it started in 1996 with the album "Theli" by Therion.
