To many old people, too much flesh eating bacterias, too much pollution, alligators, high rent, high mortgages, it's illegal to be poor or homeless in Florida.

Wow. Spot on about tourism. We lived in one of the coastal communities in your shots for over 11 years. I chuckled when I saw it. Great editing, btw.! When we bought it was 50% vacation rentals and 50% homeowners. After Covid it went to 90% plus vacation rentals. We had to move to a community with an HOA that doesn’t allow them. The cost of living on the coast of FL has become much higher than even dollars can count. …how about one’s sanity?

I first came to SW Florida in 1986. I stayed at the Charter Club on Marco and immediately fell in love with the area. I bought a gulf access lot on Marco the next day for $28,500. I dreamed of building my retirement home someday. I even planted small palm trees on the lot. Over the years I came close to making the move but my most recent visit made me realize that it will never happen because it’s no longer the same place that I loved. Crowded with arrogant and privileged people and no longer affordable. Although I am retired now, I will never come back again. 😢

I remember going to my nephews, wedding in Panama city beach a few years ago. Wanted to rent a beach condo for a week.
The basic rate was good but when I went to check out and pay deposit they had added in all kinds of resort fees, cleaning fees, resort taxes and on and on. I thought HELL NO! Found a hotel away from beach and cut the stay to only 3 days.
Hawaii is,similar now with exorbitant add on fees. They are passing all their costs onto vacationers and short term rentals.

Jose, outstanding content and you're spot on. Florida's past decades of the life style with low cost labor is beginning to backfire. A few years prior to the pandemic the side hustle pick up truck folks, the gig worker and service employees could afford a basic living. Economic inflation and Florida's employment opportunities has changed the average workers ability to survive. I believe as you stated, Florida has 2 economic ingredients - retires with money and tourism. When the honest hard working folks that live in the community cannot afford to live in the community then it's a red flag. Look what happened in St Petersburg when an area was gentrified as well as other areas. Then we have the spiraling out of control taxes, insurance and rents, let alone home prices. As we say in the Mitten, Joe lunch bucket just wants to work and provide for his family, just provide the opportunity. God Bless and you know what to watch out for.

I've lived in Florida for 25 years now and I remember all of the hurricanes in the early 2000s. I also remember insurance companies pulling this crap before, but the difference was Jeb Bush and Charlie Crisp negotiated with the insurance companies and basically held the insurance companies by the balls. They said that if insurance companies weren't going to write home insurance policies then they might as well leave the state because they won't be able to write car, life, Insurance policies either. So, instead of giving in to the big insurance companies, our leaders put the citizens of the state first, and was about to throw out about 10 insurance companies, but guess what? The insurance companies knew they'd lose millions of dollars so they did succumb to the pressures of our governors and didn't leave the state and wrote homeowners' insurance policies. But we have a crazy Nazi as a governor and and he'd rather line his pockets with money instead of helping the citizens of Florida that sadly voted for him.
