You are amazing! I have started painting again after over 20years. You have given me such a great gift. After my mom died I dried up and I literally could not sit in quiet. I had to have some sort of noice in my ear. I cold not let my mind quiet. I had to constantly be bombarded by noise. After I started painting again in large part due to your videos and classes, I realize that I was sitting in quiet. Thank you for that gift. ❤

Valuable education here. Appreciate the more indepth descriptions of how you see the value on your scale; how to get the right contrast in the 'throat' and bowl of the rose; how to place the petals; sheering off the color; how to correct each part if it goes wrong. So true on the white out too. lol
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

hi mr jansen please do not listen to anyone if they say shorter videos or dont talk so much, its ridiculous and rude. your roses are challenging but the most beautiful on youtube. thank you.

Thanks for your wonderful series on how to paint a rose. I'm from India, and I'm trying to follow each of your 30 roses in 30 days videos. The lessons are absolutely delightful and enriching. I never dreamt that I'd be able to get such great results. I have shared my work on Facebook and Instagram, and adding your name in the credits. Thank you so much for your free lessons. They are worth their value in gold!

David, I'm only 11 minutes in and you've 'seen' all the things that I do! So glad to have found this video. I painted a rose this morning and was getting somewhere when boom I lost it as I didn't have a grasp of my value scale and the light paint took over and I lost the shadows! Ive decided to study more of your videos this afternoon and try again tomorrow! Thank you, thank you

This video is really great to explain value about painting beautiful roses! White is very dangerous color, I know. How to keep roundness of rose using warm and cool colors changing value is one of the key! I must always to think what the rose needs now.Thank you so much for your sharing this video. I am definitely guilty of ignoring my tones. I think I just get so excited to start putting on petals. I also love the golden retriever in the background. This video really hit home for me. I kept adding more and more white because it seemed like the white would disappear when it dried--perhaps too much extender! In the process, I would have to go back and re-establish values between the petals which of course meant more overworked areas. So thank you Dave for this informative and very valuable video.

Yay!!!!! 🌹 so glad to see this video... going to make a pot of tea, get my pen and notebook and enjoy this video!
(I have a rose painting that’s been sitting abandoned waiting to be fixed)!
Ps. I made a value scale, I’d never used one before I saw you using it. I’ll try to stop climbing the value scale by more than two at the time.

Ah ha...after all these years, I still catch myself getting into too much of that white at times. At least now I can "see" my mistakes (or learning opportunities).
This is an excellent lesson for everyone. Thank you. I'm sharing this with all my students. Great visual explanation of our biggest enemy as rose painters - WHITE!
    LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!

Most of us Valerie. If we can keep it, it is what truly makes the rose. That is one reason I restate it several times when painting roses.

Hi David, greetings from Australia. I am very much new at painting. Thank you for being so clear. I tried to paint your roses with the green background and couldn’t get the petals right at all. The white acrylic kept failing. Maybe it’s the paint I am using. I failed miserably. I dropped it and put a hole in it so that was the end of that painting. Like you say, I need to watch over and over again. it’s about colour and depth. But my biggest problem was getting the white petal to stand out. I’ll keep watching!

Sounds like the paint your using. Also remember the most important color in the rose is the shadow. The shadow makes the light colors look light.

Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I have started painting during quarantine and learned so much from your videos! Thank you for taking the time to share your techniques with us! I am beyond grateful for everything you thought me! One of the issues i have is how to hold and position the brush, i can never get the same result as you and my petals don’t look as defined but I’ll definitely keep trying!
