If you think about the physical compositions they're different enough. The way they are strung with the bridges and the routs in the bodies are important factors. The pickups too of course. Classic Vibes to me are the best Squiers and hold their value quite well. In a live situation, most of the audience probably wouldn't notice the difference between the two. Cheers. 🎄🎆
Rob: That guitar based composition is simply magnificent; glorious. The Tele sounds like a Tele and the Strat like a Strat. It is what it is! Lovely playing! Strat springs in the tremolo contribute to the sound.
As someone that up until recently owned 3 strats (gave one away to a guy than couldn't afford an electric), it's never a waste of money to buy a strat. 😂
I added base plates to my Strat bridge pickups and a push pull on the last volume pot which engaged neck pick up and controls treble. Creates a Faux Telly 😂 sound which I use a lot. Bridge pickups a wound a little hotter. Love it
The Nashwille Tele do sound in the way it looks holding a lot of boque, nice. The red one also sounds right lighter brighter a bit less. It will depend on what do you want? I myself I want more so that very Strat would be a waste of time and money on my part.
Hmm harmonizing guitar leads, I'm a sucker for 'em. Deciding which was which wasn't always easy when I tried blind. But I especially liked your 5 position comparison. Middle on both seemed pretty close which is the main point of the Nashville I think. I do want a Nashville Tele at some point, but I'm still on the fence for those noiseless pups on your Player, they seem to mute some frequencies I expect. For now I'll just stick with my Lead II and it's bridge Twangbanger for those Fender tones I crave.
I'm listening on the same monitors that you have, John. I could definitely hear the difference, the Strat is definitely 'springier, not as meaty with positions 2 and 4 being much more quacky. Enough of a difference to justify owning both. Equally the Strat will be different enough to inspire differently if that makes sense. Both great guitars. I'd say money well spent.
Hi John, I prefered the sounds from the Tele, but maybe that could be the difference between a Squire and a proper Fender. When I was growing up I desperately wanted a Strat but when I finally got one it was a little disappointing. I loved my Tele, I should never have let that one go.
Recently rediscovered the Tele (played a righty as a lefty in the early 80s'). Now I have 11 Teles...a couple Strats...but the Tele is a superior sounding instrument....thicker, bolder, more appealing to my ears...especially with quality pups (Lollar/Fralin/NoCasters). LSL TBone is my benchmark...better tonality than my CS....woody or something . Love it.
Even though Leo put the neck and bridge pickups in the same positions relative to the scale length of the two guitars, there are differences in the construction and the sound of Tele pickups versus Strat pickups. So, no you did not waste your money. Besides, IMHO a Strat is one of the "Basic Food Groups" one should have in their guitar collection.
The Vibe is a great guitar, add a solid metal trem block to improve the sustain, they are great to play. I had 4 Teles over the years, none now. Stratocaster or Grestch semi does me. The vibe was not a waste of money.
From a cost-benefit analysis, it depends on the price of the Squier. I found the sound to be different, but not by much. Not all purchases are that academic. When it comes to guitars, like cars, and other purchases of the heart, a cost benefit analysis isn't really relevant as it is an emotional decision, not a rational one IMHO.
If I knew it's a comparison between a Telecaster and a Stratocaster, I would almost certainly be able to tell them apart. If I was simply played one sample and asked what guitar it was played on, I don't think I would be able to say anything beyond "most likely some single coil guitar".
I wonder how anyone knowing anything about pickups would say that the Tele would sound similar to a Strat. The steel plate underneath the bridge pickup and the smaller gauge wire of the Tele makes a huge difference in the magnetic field and the metal housing of the neck pickup definitely shapes the sound different to the plastic cover. That leaves only the mid pickup to be even closely similar to that of a Strat. Knowing that the Tele pickups are somewhat beefier by nature because of the extra metal, it might be safe to assume that the mid pickup of the Nashville Tele has been tailored to better match the other two. All single coil pickups don't sound the same, not even all Fender single coil ones. If they were all similar, a triple-P90 Jazzmaster would substitute a Strat!
That was waaaay too easy mate! Well.. When I could see them 😂👍 And even when I could see them, I could barely tell in the mix. 🙈 Was surprised how close the position 4 tone was, but the strat just has that extra wee glisten on the top end. But.. was that Noiseless pickups on the Tele? I wonder if the tones could be even closer with more authentic single coils? 😃
I wish I’d bought a Squier 50s Strat instead of the Tele as the neck pickup on the Tele is a dog . The bridge pickup on your Tele is great but for me I prefer the neck and neck/middle sounds of a Strat . That said I’ve never played a Nashville. Think the Squiers are thinner than Player model , Japanese and American ones so maybe not got the resonance to take off the spikey stuff particularly on the bridge pickup . Top tip ? Get an HSS Strat , love mine and gets rid of the harsh bridge fella !! Cheers John , have a great Xmas !! 🍷🍽️⛄️🍺🥃
Replace the Tele bridge/pu & neck pu with all Strat, cut a hole for trem in the Tele, or hardtail both & bodies of same weight & wood. That would be a truer comparison. As some tone sniffers say, everything matters, but just a tiny bit....
You won't have wasted your money John for the very reason you bought the strat. You want something as a baseline to compare other strats against in reviews and if you used the Nashville you'd always get some bright spark saying it wasn't a like-for-like comparison. Ps: I could tell the difference but unlike yourself prefer the strat. One man's milk......
A strat sounds slightly different to a telecaster, the Tele bridge pickup has got more balls, as it's on a bass plate, and the strat had a trem, but if you pile on the gain, the differences will be marginal.
But moving on, have you tried a Revstar Standard? 22 stainless steel frets, satin neck, choice of P90s or hambuckers all for under £600? Ticks most of your boxes and is currently giving me serious GAS
Nope. I enjoyed their sounds just as much and did not want to "study" the piece of music to pick them apart. Yes there were differences, no, the differences don't matter significantly enough for me to spill my honey-lemon-green-tea. I'm having too much fun to care. Then again, if they had been some Amazonian, Thomannic, Baxonians, or Fakeratis, I might feel differently. 😅
I've a hard tail Strat classic vibe and two teles one an original 72 and the other a 2002, through a clean amp no horrible effects you can tell the difference no problem

I've got one of those. Upgraded the pickups and I LOVE it!
Me too. But it’s surprisingly not as easy to play as my Harley Benton.

Forget the shape of the wood, it's all about the pickups
As someone that up until recently owned 3 strats (gave one away to a guy than couldn't afford an electric), it's never a waste of money to buy a strat. 😂
A guitar is more than just about the sound. IMO the strat just has the look! 🙂
Very cool comparison! It really shows off the differences between the two. Yup, I'd keep both!
Pleasant mix and great tones across both! Merry Christmas to all!

Both great....keep both
I e got a Squire Affinity tele, that I love (Im gonna mod the bridge pickup w a hot rail). I want to get a strat, too. 😅🎸 😎

The strat takes it for me but both are valuable tools in the toolbox! Thanks for sharing 🎸
Evening John they both sound great I'd keep them both 👍
It’s Red, so Yes you did!

Terrific playing. I really enjoy my Jazzmaster but Have always preferred my Tele to my Strat.

Was intrigued by this comparison John. The Nashville is tremendous!

Yes
I certainly heard the difference. Never been a fan of Nashville Teles-neither one nor t'other.

Both sound great, John.... The quality of the Nashville gave it an edge, IMHO, The CV is definitely more Knopflery
You wanted a strat so you didn't have to borrow your mates John. Just keep that gorgeous red strat
Agreed.
Yes they do sound different but even if they were identical I'll bet they feel different, there is more to it than just the sound as I'm sure you know
Would the comparisons be closer if you use a 'hardtail' Strat?
Hardtail & trem Strats have a different sound.
That was waaaay too easy mate!
Well.. When I could see them 😂👍
And even when I could see them, I could barely tell in the mix. 🙈

I could tell them apart in isolation, but not in the mix

I'am a telecaster kinda guy👍😁🖒so many different kinda tele's out there.
Guitar was worth it, just to look at it!

Agree
Agreed
I think everyone gets triggered by some sort of guitar or other, for me it’s a middle pickup in a tele. I have to go with the strat on this one.
A strat sounds slightly different to a telecaster, the Tele bridge pickup has got more balls, as it's on a bass plate, and the strat had a trem, but if you pile on the gain, the differences will be marginal.
Tele for me ,sound wise for every time!
Keep the Strat. Do a low budget pickup upgrade (Iron Gear) and it will roar a bit more.
Which of the Iron Gear pickups do you recommend? I am in a similar situation, have Strat, want Iron Gear SSS replacements, but which ones?? 💖🕊️🤘🏻
Rob: Eventually the Strat sound will grow on you and you will become a Strat man. Happens to all.
The Strat sounds like a Strat. The Tele sounds like a Tele pretending to be a Strat
But moving on, have you tried a Revstar Standard? 22 stainless steel frets, satin neck, choice of P90s or hambuckers all for under £600? Ticks most of your boxes and is currently giving me serious GAS
Had the basic Revstar a couple of years ago. Great guitar.
great jam track

Anyway, what's needing it got to do with it? I thought that's the wife's job to say you don't need another guitar 😅
What a fantastic video have a great John also happy holiday season from Canada and also I will quit TH-cam in 2025 ❤😊🇬🇧🇬🇧🇨🇦🎄🌲❄🎸
Same guitar just a little diffrent in shape.
