Astonishing, despite possible bombing and cannon fire., still standing proud.. after all this time. I often imagine the lives of people who lived in castles such as this.My nearest local standing castle is, Conisbrough. Doncaster.I believe you have done one about it. You may want to look up Nottingham's tunnels. there are hundreds, and they are still finding new ones today.Thank you for another excellent presentation.
Nice video, thanks. It is a great castle and, as a youngster, I spent many happy hours exploring it, as well as the Western Heights with its Napoleonic fort. Great memories for a kid.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it, I also have a video on the channel where we managed to go into the Drop Redoubt on Western Heights. Thanks for the amazing comment, wish I could have spent my childhood exploring Dover!
@@TheUntoldPast No, thank you! I think you would have really liked it, especially the time when I was a kid in the 60s. It was a very different town back then, it was after the Germans destroyed a lot of it, but before the council destroyed the rest. It was old and tatty but still had most of it's little old roads and buildings. Hundreds of little shops and pubs, history and atmosphere everywhere. Many of the places I have the fondest memories of are long gone, but it was a wonderland for a little urban explorer. I spent countless hours meandering all over the place soaking it all in. The castle and western heights were more 'raw' and more natural. You could go places now closed off and see all kinds of interesting things. Much has since been locked, walled up or pulled down because it was deemed 'dangerous', pfft... I swear, they're determined to nanny us all until there's nothing fun or interesting left. Never stop exploring😁
Been here numerous times when my son was small, a great day out, both the castle and the wartime tunnels. Like the narrator says, if you can, you must visit, it's history is so fascinating.
If you ask people to draw a castle they will draw a main keep with 4 turrets and a most going round it… they draw Dover castle … I look out my window and see this perfect castle every day.
The Untold Past is a boss. Keep up the videos!
Hi. I have experience of seeing a residual haunting in Dover Castle, I've never forgotten it 😳 😌

Planning on revisiting Dover as soon as possible!

That's a joke this castle couldn't spot criminal asylum seekers coming in so I've a good idea let's open it for asylum seekers.
