Thank you for taking the time and effort to post this video. I raced in the Tinker era and your view of him was pretty much my view of him only you hung on longer 😁. After 25 years of practically no riding, health issues convinced me to get off my ass and back on a bike. 2 years and 40 lbs later, I’m ready to give the MDH 100 my best effort in about a month from now. Your video has served as inspiration during many long trainer workouts this past winter and just pure entertainment and encouragement this spring and summer. I didn’t challenge Tinker in the old days and I sure won’t now but I’m looking forward to adding to the short list of 60+ year old guys foolish enough to sign up.
Awesome! So glad you like the video and even more glad you’re back on the bike and have gotten back in shape. This really is a special race and I hope you have a great time racing!
Great ride. The rain is such a game changer for this course. The clays were just shy of making it near impossible. So good to see the races happening. Thanks again for this video. Makes the winter training so much better.
Thank you for uploading. I first heard about Tinker 3 years ago when he broke the Maah Daah Hey course record at the age of 57. He inspired me to realize my best days are still ahead of me. I love this trail and I hope you and Kelly and Tinker keep coming back. Ive done the Maah Daah Hey 25 for the past two years now. LOVE IT! Thank you Josh!
You are very welcome, the trail and race deserves attention. I’ve done all the hard trail races in the country and this one is right up near the top , yet people really don’t know about this area.
Thanks for posting! I dream of riding the Maah Daah Hey Trail with Tinker Juarez. However, we keep getting separated at the Maah Daah Hey 100 starting line. Your GoPro camera has made my dream a reality :)
Been wanting to ride this for a decade. Thanks for the video Josh. That is some awesome singletrack. All I have heard is to avoid the mud season...but that is par with Fruita CO riding.
It really is an amazing trail and area, definitely make an effort to get up there and check it out. They do a lot of work to the trail for the race so after the race is a great time to ride it. And yes you do not want to be out there if it’s wet you’ll be carrying your bike out.
I’m not a racer but man that really looks like a great race course. I’ve been trying to do more xc rides and I might need to put that on my bucket list. Great ride even though you weren’t 100%. Congratulations
That is a tough one, you will likely encounter a lot of different trail conditions from very dry to bike stopping mud holes. Your best bet is to go with a good all around tire, even if it doesn’t rain some of the course can stay wet and muddy for quite a while so be prepared for anything.
All the top guys have someone helping them and giving them bottle handoffs. I used hydration packs because it can be very hot for the race so I just carried more. You are actually supposed to have a crew person there for you so that if something happens you have a way to get off the trail. They do this because it is a point to point and is very remote and they can’t be rescuing every person that decides to drop out. You really are responsible for yourself in this race. That being said they do a great job with aid stations and there is easy access by dirt road to the entire course.
Tinker is always on a hard tail no matter what the course is. I would not recommend a hard tail, the course is not super technical as a whole but would categorize it as very rough.
Tons of great single track races out there, this is definitely one of them. Gravel has definitely taken over the “off road” sector of racing for sure but i race a full season of only mountain bike races.
It’s not super technical compared to other riding that I do but it can be very rough and unpredictable. It is an amazing trail with a distinctive backcountry feel.

Thanks for the video, Josh. I raced it that year but was bringing up the rear lol what a fun race
It really is one of the best ones out there.

Sick Trail with narrow line and exposure! Congratulations on a good finish battling those guys!

Hey Alex, glad that you liked the video. It’s always a really cool thing to ride with Tinker. I hope someday you can do it in real life.
Nice racing! Looked like you descended faster but those guys were really flying under power. Thanks fir sharing.

Thank you! This should definitely go on your bucket list. It really is an amazing trail and area, the video barley does it justice.
Thanks for sharing Josh. I’ve raced it the last two years and looking forward to this year! Are you planning on racing it this year?
Hey man, I would love to but not sure what my season will be . It’s definitely one of my favorite races!
Getting ready for August, do you have a tire recommendation?
That is a tough one, you will likely encounter a lot of different trail conditions from very dry to bike stopping mud holes. Your best bet is to go with a good all around tire, even if it doesn’t rain some of the course can stay wet and muddy for quite a while so be prepared for anything.
I notice no camelbacks? You getting water at aid stations?

@@joshtostado6365 Awesome thanks so much!
@@joshtostado6365 Looks like some are on hardtails... Would you recommend that over a real light full squish?

Does single track, real mtn bike racing still exist anywhere or is it all just a facet if gravel?.
Tons of great single track races out there, this is definitely one of them. Gravel has definitely taken over the “off road” sector of racing for sure but i race a full season of only mountain bike races.
Looks like such a cool trail! How technical would you say it is?
