One decision away from making a change...my sweet hubs of 42 years passed away awhile back. I've been sitting around the house missing him oh! so much. My decision was to get off my butt and take a cruise...the first ever. Just returned yesterday and it was a much needed respite from grief. My next decision is to put my happy pants on and make life bearable again. I love this channel and I love watching your young lives...you were us many moons ago. Love this moment, youngin's, for life goes by so very fast. ☺
You are right about making changes. I went tiny 3 years ago and live in a 40ft shipping container in east Tennessee. I love it and and am so happy about my decision. ❤
You are so right about anyone being able to change their life with just one decision. I am packing up and moving out of an Ontario city next week. Going to spend the summer by the ocean in New Brunswick then off to Mexico for at least two months. I am about to turn 70 and life is just beginning!! Thanks for the inspiration!! 🥰❤
I really enjoyed this video, but I love all your videos. I could sit with y’all and watch paint dry and still be entertained. As you said, Sarah, we’re all just one decision away from making a change, and I made that decision several years ago. I’m retired and 70, and have a permanent respiratory disability, but after 70 years in Texas, I’m done with this ever increasing relentless heat and being a hostage in my air conditioned home for May through September! This Memorial holiday weekend, we’ll have 2 days at 100+ Fahrenheit temps. Although my extended family is here, I’m closing on my new home in Wisconsin, a mile from Lake Michigan, next week and will enjoy being able to spend springs and summers outdoors where temps only rose above 90 degrees twice last year, one day in Aug at 93 and another day in September. I might not have many years left, but, by God, I worked hard all my life and now that I’m retired, I’m going to make the most of it and be happy and more active. It’s taken a lot of planning, downsizing, research, but it’s finally happening. If I can do it, you can too. I don’t know anyone there except the realtor, but I’m an extrovert and can entertain myself for weeks and months and be perfectly content, but I’ll volunteer, do some gardening, walking, biking, meet some neighbors, face-time family, etc. If you’re a fence straddler, I challenge you to get your butt off that fence and make the most of your life.
Sara, you are so right one decision away from making a change. 40 years ago I was dumped by my girlfriend and it hit me hard. I didn’t have much financial and decided to start saving every extra penny I made. Being a builder I eventually bought a lot and built my own house…the entire house. I started meeting very nice people in my neighborhood and eventually met my first wife who after five years passed away - that was very hard part of my life but my sister in law fixed me up with my second wife. I married two of the most beautiful people in one life. Now my wife and I are retired traveling the Country in our camper and soon to start building my 4th house. This house will be about the size of yours but completely off grid. Sorry to say not on the water. After reading a lot of the comments it’s obvious you guys touch so many people with your channel and kind words, thanks for doing what you do!
Amazing 🙌 those are some really difficult hardships you had to overcome, but you didn’t let them stop you, and now you’re living your best life!! Absolutely love that!
I love your kitchen sink. Every time I see it, I like it even more! If I ever retire, I will most likely live in an off-road trailer that'll go wherever my truck will take it. That way I can travel around this beautiful country of ours and choose where I want to stay. Places where it's cool in the summer and warm in the winter, for sure! I'm 69 years old, so it's getting close to that time. Hoorah!!
You will be able to retire very soon! My husband and I went from a 3,500 hundred square foot house in Illinois, which was easy to big after the kids moved out, not to mention the taxes, and we moved into a mobile home part in Arizona. Then we sold that and got a 5th wheel. We have that now in Arizona after we spent the summer in Missouri. We have the same plan as being snowbirds! You will love it! Have Fun!!!❤
thank you! copper sinks are a lot more cleaning work but so worth it to me every time I look at it 😍 that sounds like an epic plan!!! you betta do it! 👏🤠 be sure to stop through the Smoky Mtns if we’re still here! 😉
You guys are great I enjoy the heck out of your weekly videos whether you are building or just enjoying Brandon on that Banjo... keep'em coming. So so enjoyable.
We moved from Cherokee to Alarka over the winter ,I'm not even all unpacked yet it is a mess . But it's getting better . I grew up on the water , plan to get on the lake in a large boat a motor sailor. As you demonstrated these floating cabins are not without issues many folk are not aware of . Myself I simply do not care to anchor in one spot and hope to move about both fishing and exploring the surrounding forests.
Hey y’all, welcome back! We missed you. Your friends’ cabin is so cute. Miss Bear was so happy to have her people back home! BTW, Sarah, your💍 is gorgeous! Hope y’all have a wonderful weekend. Take care and we’ll see you next week!
We’re just saying, we’re just saying Dinky ,we missed you guys! Great to see you both back home with Iko ! She looked so happy to be back on her turf! Have a wonderful week and we’ll catch up with you next Friday! T&C!
So glad to see Iko back home with mama and papa. I swear if I could travel down there and live on a houseboat for a week I’d take care of that beautiful girl for you anytime! Unfortunately that’s not in the cards right now. Maybe one day!
I was just about to comment after watching you work on that water line AND drive the boat, Sarah, that I sure hope Brandon realizes what a hardworking badass Lake Goddess he’s got by his side-and then he made that comment! The look on your face…😂😂😂😂…I’ll help you roll him up in some of those logs and float him down the lake whenever you need 😉. Lucky for him I think he does actually get how lucky he is! 😍🏆Good work you two! Big belly rub from me to Iko! 🩷🩷
You are so right. People have the option to work hard for what they want and make good choices if they so desire. Envy/coveting is an ugly thing. Iko is like a goat-dog with her climbing abilities! It's so cute when she crouches in the water to cool off. Ten bucks says that water line will end up bugging Brandon so badly he'll have to fix it - 😂. Good to see you back and glad you had a nice vacation!
Fantastic video wauw. Thanks. All the best from the Netherlands, you know, water, houseboats, Canalboats, Real floating party islands, the hole tsja-bang. Love it, love your life. Go for it you two, feel free and be free!
Once a SAR always a SAR. The thought process ans awareness is continual. We shine in moments of need, even the simplest things as prevention ("an ounce of prevention..."). 6:56 love the line outside, I use a hammock strap inside. Lovely home. 11:39 thanks for building info 12:23 is a loft considered more SqFt? 15:25 good for Brandon giving him a heads up about going under the bridge.

Wow you dropped a nugget when you said going on vaca and coming home, has you guys on a good space. That's really living ❤ I pray to attain that soon. I'm glad Bear did good at the kennel🙌🏾🙌🏾 😎Have a Safe Memorial Weekend😎 see yaaa next week🙌🏾
We have a floating cabin on Lake Hiawassee. We had the same problem with not being able to hear each other over the motor noise while moving it around. We bought a set of cheep headset walkie talkies. It was a game changer. I highly recommend.
I lived on a 50 foot old steel-hulled home-built houseboat that was moored at a marina in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. You want to talk about rising waters? The Ohio River is "on average" around 25 feet near and around Cincinnati...except when the states upriver get rain. The highest I ever saw was 55 feet. Now, the issue is getting from the boat to solid land (as I worked and had to get to work) and the marina's idea of a workable solution was a literal plank that was no wider than your average ladder, had NO handrails and required walking across that metal plank approximately 20 FEET ABOVE THE WATER! That was the last month I lived there after three years. Sometimes you realize the deal-breaker much after you move in. I loved most of my time there, but walking that metal plank about 18 feet from marina plank to a hillside spot above all that water was more than I could handle. Understand that water doesn't just suddenly recede, either. The river would go down maybe a foot or two every day, but when it's 30 feet above normal, that means a couple of weeks of high water.
Wow that’s interesting!! our water definitely does rise suddenly, we’ve seen it come up 40ft in 2 days! Luckily our boat ramp is built to be accessible whether the water is 60ft down or up, so we’re able to boat to the marina and get to and from our cars for work without any trouble 🙏🙏
Honestly right there with you 🤣 Brandon’s pretty confident it’s wedged between 2 big rocks. would not be surprised in the least if we wind up cutting & splicing it anyways eventually! 🙈
Glad to see you back i missed you last you week Anyway I'm wondering if there is anyway you can call your scuba diving friend to take a look at that water line? I know hes not local so it might not work out but nothing wrong with trying
We could! We’d love to get him up here just to see him again, but it most likely wouldn’t actually help anything 😅 even if he saw what it was stuck on, no way he’d be able to remove it himself if we couldn’t do it with the force of 2 boats at full throttle haha
Big hit this week!! 🎶 Haha I’m limited to using only songs I can license thru royalty free platforms but every now and again you still find a fun one. Thanks so much!
I live in Miami beach i would love to have a house like the blue one near by the ocean, that would be perfect. But i don't think the cuty allowed it. Honestly living in a lake is kind a cool for a weekend but a little boring full time not my cup of the tea. I see this place more like a scape from the city vacation plan. I appreciate the effort to make your life looks so perfect but i like videos where the people work in their own projects, they show you what they do for a leaving and teach you something. I also like how you walk your dog around the lake and then the day is over ;) I see my self in the lake when I'll be 70 but not now, I'm to young for that.
Sounds like this might have been the first video of ours you’ve seen? Welcome aboard! 😊 it’s pretty rare to find a video where we aren’t working on our latest house flip or boat restoration, most videos we are teaching folks about the unique challenges involved with construction on the water! you’ll def have to check out more of our videos if you want to get a better feel for the lifestyle, both work and play.
Just recently found your site. As I was looking at the first video, it looks so familiar couldn’t figure out which like it was and then I realized it was Fontana. One of my favorite lakes if not, my very favorite. I’ve spent many days in my tri-Toon up there love your videos. I’ve hiked hazel Creek in a little bit of Forney, and have camped on my boat and many of the coves on Fontana.
We would both love to get scuba certified! It’s just finding the time haha, we’d have to drive pretty far to take the course & usually it’s over the course of several days, but one day we will!
The water is only gonna drop from now own, right? I say tie several markers as far as y’all can and the lower it drops may give you the angle you need to get un snagged.
She’s a good little swimmer but she just will NOT jump off the dock to swim 😆 she‘s very against getting her face or tail wet haha. So she’ll only slowly wade in, from the bank or boat launch or wherever she doesn’t have to jump. Which is really helpful for us actually because we can leave her at home and let her be outside and know she’s not just gonna abandon ship lol
That new house is looking pretty nice! Bought an SUV once and never once thought about checking if it would fit in the garage. It didn't, had to take the racks off the top. Could you dive down following the line to see what's going on with it?
🤣 a very reasonable mistake, not sure I would have thought of that either! Yea we could get a diver to dive on it, much too deep for us without O2, but not sure seeing it would really help anyways beyond satisfying curiosity! If the power of a boat motor pulling in any direction couldn’t yank it free, a diver probably wouldn’t be able to either
The only time I wanted to live on or near the water was my entire life. Never was able to work near where there are lakes, but now you shown a real possibility. Please tell us how you close up for the winter and do you live there full time in the summer and have another winter home, or is this just a weekend or vacation getaway.
Water here is raising as well but not in a good way. Floods and Tornadoes all over here in Iowa. Sad that Iowa is beating Texas for the number of tornadoes. Iowa is at 83 since April.
doooo it! 🥳 don’t know if you’re into camping but a lot of folks like to bring their kayaks or canoes and paddle to one of the first-come-first-serve forest service island campsites on the lake! 🏝️
If you haven’t already, I’d just start with finding what body of water will allow you to build a floating home on it. It’s not allowed most places. Where permitted, they may have a requirements for what kind of floatation needs to be used! We use encapsulated polystyrene, like eagle floats.
I wonder if this is a permanent way of life if it were me I would have some automatic electric wench that would detect when the house had to move then it would just adjust on its own? Do you have a video on the process of how you built your floating house? I know if it were me I would want a floating house where I could have a basement with windows under water so I could have a different view?
Question: why don’t you drop cement blocks in strategic spits just off the float that way your lines aren’t so long and I impeding everyones else path.
We did drop cement blocks off to ensure the lines don’t impede boat traffic, it was shown and discussed in this video haha. Even though it’s not required of us, we feel it’s good etiquette!
❤️ it’s so fun! We have a playlist on our channel called “how stuff works” that might have some videos that could be helpful/interesting for you!! th-cam.com/play/PLHPaDMs4x9XWy_HkTZhH5aaoPbW_4aagA.html&si=1x6hQC7zD8Cwg1Y9
Cost.💰 The “city” water is just the lake water being treated on a larger scale via our tax dollars. We figure why treat the same water individually ourselves and spend all that additional money replacing expensive filters every few months when we could just tap into the treated water we’ve essentially already paid for. There’s no water bill, just the one-time cost of the pex line & fittings we used to hook it up. 🙌
🤔 no clue! been so long now since we bought the pex for it I can’t remember how many feet it was. several hundred ft just to the white ball, then the main line which was already there continues on another several hundred yards.
th-cam.com/play/PLHPaDMs4x9XWy_HkTZhH5aaoPbW_4aagA.html&si=sdsDO0VjLuZbOSGH we have a playlist “how stuff works” for those very questions! one of the videos on there addresses all the utilities in particular which sounds like your main questions. might be a fun watch 🤠
A few months after cov hit I gave my 2 bedroom house to my youngest son , gave my oldest son a down payment for his new house 🏠 and I retired . I traded my 2016 Toyota car for a 2020 Ram 1500 4x4 and got a 24 foot travel trailer camper and I hit the road alone 😔 37 states and 4 years later I've camped 99.9% free off grid and tax free . My only regret is that I didn't do this earlier . I love my life now .
yep! the city water is the lake water, it’s just cheaper to let the town treat it on a large scale than to continuously treat it ourselves. filters are super expensive
Yes, im sure its a good life. But their not getting ahead in life, this I can guarantee. Do they even have health insurance. Life is simple when you're young. But reality will come a knocking. This world resolves around money and if you're not earning you're moving backwards
this has to be a joke, right? 🤣🤣 or you just enjoy making snap judgments with 0 knowledge of the reality? since you must be new here, you ought to go and watch their journey from the start and then come back and laugh at how ridiculous you’ll see this comment actually is in hindsight. as anyone who knows anything about this couple will tell you, these two are literally the poster children for exactly what TO do when you’re young, especially in terms of hard work and setting yourself up well for the future. the way they diversify their income and work their butts off WHILE having fun has inspired even old people like me, amongst many many others.
@@KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses yes, I had a paper route when I was younger so I suppose you are correct. But let's not split hairs here. Nothing substantial. 50-60 hours a week? 8t was the cost of living that moved you to this life, your words. Again I repeat, you are not getting ahead in life. Call it what you will. There is a reason that less than 1% of the population here in the United States lives this way. In essence you are living the life as if in a third world country. You want all the protections of an American but want none of tge responsibilities. The only reason I even commented was you saying the reason you live this life is the the cost of living. That's not a reason, it's a cop-out
I reckon if you want to see how poorly this all works out for us & have your “I told you so” moment, you’ll just have to keep watching 😉 thanks for the engagement on this post & boosting in the algorithm! Take care ❤️

Honestly right there with you 🤣 Brandon’s pretty confident it’s wedged between 2 big rocks. would not be surprised in the least if we wind up cutting & splicing it anyways eventually! 🙈
How unique & interestingly awesome.
Thank You for sharing your video here. 🙏😇👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching ☺️
Definitely some work involved with your home on the lake, but oh, what a beautiful life. 😊
Worth it without a doubt 😍 no lawn to mow though! 🙌😆
Glad to see you back i missed you last you week
Anyway I'm wondering if there is anyway you can call your scuba diving friend to take a look at that water line? I know hes not local so it might not work out but nothing wrong with trying
We could! We’d love to get him up here just to see him again, but it most likely wouldn’t actually help anything 😅 even if he saw what it was stuck on, no way he’d be able to remove it himself if we couldn’t do it with the force of 2 boats at full throttle haha
Hope your water line is okay! Good luck! The boat looks sweet!
Thank you!! ❤️❤️
I looove love love your guys' boat!
why thank ya!! 🙏
That dog is in Haven!!!
30:40 Bo The Drifter - Helluva Time.
I’m probably late to the party on this song but glad I’m here. Another great video guys.
I also like how you walk your dog around the lake and then the day is over ;)
I see my self in the lake when I'll be 70 but not now, I'm to young for that.
Oh my! The Florida Gator flag on the other floating home! Love it! Go Gators!🐊🐊🐊
We don’t claim them! 🤪😉 hahah just kidding!
Such a special corner of the world!! 🙏 you’ll have to give us a shout if you find yourself back out this way!
Has Brandon thought about getting a scuba cert? It could come in handy for things like the stuck water line.
We would both love to get scuba certified! It’s just finding the time haha, we’d have to drive pretty far to take the course & usually it’s over the course of several days, but one day we will!
A true American finale
Work hard, play harder. YEW 😊
That’s right! 👏
Y'all are so cute including Iko. Wish I was your neighbor, maybe someday!
🥰 thank you. Maybe so!! We hope to renovate & sell at least one a year moving forward so hopefully there’ll be several opportunities! 🙌
The water is only gonna drop from now own, right? I say tie several markers as far as y’all can and the lower it drops may give you the angle you need to get un snagged.
That is a very nice looking boat.
I said... boat.
🤣😂
I think it is cool that your pup just waits for you, could totally swim over to the shore to go potty couldn’t she?
Do you ever think of making a 2-foot wide ramp made out of compost 2x6 on the side of the deck to train your dog to climb up the ramp?
For sure! She’s 9 though so we’re unsure if it would even be worth trying 😆 that saying about old dogs not learning new tricks is no joke! haha

Nicely done!
Thanks! 🙏
The only time I wanted to live on or near the water was my entire life. Never was able to work near where there are lakes, but now you shown a real possibility. Please tell us how you close up for the winter and do you live there full time in the summer and have another winter home, or is this just a weekend or vacation getaway.
We live here full time, year round 😊

Thanks for sharing 😊😊😊
Thanks for watching! ❤️
I would get my diver buddy to go down and check the water line. Save problems later.
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙌
Water here is raising as well but not in a good way. Floods and Tornadoes all over here in Iowa. Sad that Iowa is beating Texas for the number of tornadoes. Iowa is at 83 since April.
Yikes!!!
Want to visit the area and get my kayak out on the lake.😊
doooo it! 🥳 don’t know if you’re into camping but a lot of folks like to bring their kayaks or canoes and paddle to one of the first-come-first-serve forest service island campsites on the lake! 🏝️
Cool😎
Nice
Do you use for your pontoons? I’ve been thinking about doing a floating home, but I’m not sure where to start.
Videos of building our house 😊

What was the name of that song at the end of the show? I want to add that to my play list!!
Bo the Drifter - Helluva Time ☺️ such a good vibes song!
What size floats do you typically use? Brand?
eagle floats! all different sizes depending on the weight that will be on top of them in that area of the house.
Question: why don’t you drop cement blocks in strategic spits just off the float that way your lines aren’t so long and I impeding everyones else path.
Our lines do not impede anyone’s path. May be hard to see in the video. 😂
We did drop cement blocks off to ensure the lines don’t impede boat traffic, it was shown and discussed in this video haha. Even though it’s not required of us, we feel it’s good etiquette!
Love your videos and your home on the water. How old is Iko? She is beautiful
Thank you! Iko is 9 🤍
🏞Iko being insanely cute running along the bank with that antler in her mouth!🐾🛥
🥰 right?! she’s precious
WHAAAAAAAT?!? I never knew thus was a thing😮 How do i learn more??? ❤
❤️ it’s so fun! We have a playlist on our channel called “how stuff works” that might have some videos that could be helpful/interesting for you!! th-cam.com/play/PLHPaDMs4x9XWy_HkTZhH5aaoPbW_4aagA.html&si=1x6hQC7zD8Cwg1Y9
Do y'all live on Norris lake? I swear I've fished some of them lake banks!
We do not but Norris does have the floating houses too! 🙌
Gorgeous video! What was the outro song? Big love from the North Oregon Coast 🌊💙
Helluva Time by Bo The Drifter 💙🤙 thank you!!
Is that a new dinghy since 2022?
mine is still the same, brandon got himself a similar one last year after selling the surf boat!
Where does the black water and grey water go?
To a holding tank (like Rv’s), which a boat comes around once a week and pumps out!
Why do you have a water line instead of filtering the lake water?
Cost.💰 The “city” water is just the lake water being treated on a larger scale via our tax dollars. We figure why treat the same water individually ourselves and spend all that additional money replacing expensive filters every few months when we could just tap into the treated water we’ve essentially already paid for. There’s no water bill, just the one-time cost of the pex line & fittings we used to hook it up. 🙌
How long is your water line?
🤔 no clue! been so long now since we bought the pex for it I can’t remember how many feet it was. several hundred ft just to the white ball, then the main line which was already there continues on another several hundred yards.
Where is this place at I would love to live like this. Please let me know.
north carolina!
Whats the name of that song i love it
the one at the end? Helluva Time by Bo The Drifter 🤙
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
dumb question how does a floating house work lmao like toilet running water fridge cooking ?
th-cam.com/play/PLHPaDMs4x9XWy_HkTZhH5aaoPbW_4aagA.html&si=sdsDO0VjLuZbOSGH we have a playlist “how stuff works” for those very questions! one of the videos on there addresses all the utilities in particular which sounds like your main questions. might be a fun watch 🤠

Take a scuba tank and mask. See what is going on. You can rent them...
Not without being scuba certified, + additional training for high-elevation diving.
I love my life now .
that’s amazing 👏 not only a story of you making a change for the better, but of your generosity too!
You're hucked up to city water and you live on a lake???
yep! the city water is the lake water, it’s just cheaper to let the town treat it on a large scale than to continuously treat it ourselves. filters are super expensive
Money talks.. the rest walks, hunny .
Yes, im sure its a good life. But their not getting ahead in life, this I can guarantee. Do they even have health insurance. Life is simple when you're young. But reality will come a knocking. This world resolves around money and if you're not earning you're moving backwards
😂 not earning? I am going to take a STRONG guess you haven’t watched any of our other videos?
You must be new here.. they work and earn. I'm sure they are doing great
this has to be a joke, right?
