One of the BEST videos I’ve seen to date!! You saved me an EASY THOUSAND bucks from a “numb-nut know it all” who KNEW how to prime the pump on my new pool. This EXACT pump. He did NOT know. In fact he did everything wrong and I saw the water boiling and kicked his arse out and then found your video. He has a pool too. And it worked. Lord only knows how but he won’t be touching my pool again! Thanks again!!!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
A superb video. I've owned a pool for 30+ years and have never seen instructions, this clear, on how to prime the pump. The straw analogies are excellent. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and tricks of the trade!
New to pools, pump wasn't priming, put new seal kit in, still not priming. This video provided the knowledge needed to understand how to properly prime the system. Very well done systematic description. Bravo!!!
You are to absolutely clear, authoritative messaging what the surface of the Sun is to heat. You remind me of the very best and my most favorite instructors throughout my life. Energetic, no ego, real desire to help, intelligence, experience, demonstrative displays, clear information. I'm a pool owner for 45 years, when not in full enjoyment, absolutely pissed about something with the equipment. I can't wait till morning to throw my new knowledge at it.
Wow..... I've watched 6-8 youtube videos about this subject and none were even close to the caliber of information and delivery. Thanks so much!! A+++++
The best tutorial on how to fix the prime problem so far, no other videos explained how to turn each of the valve on which I found super important and helpful, and it is precisely what the problem is for my pump.
Oh my goodness! After battling to prime a new pump (new pool) we came across this video. Absolutely nailed it, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, you saved us a massive headache 😊😊😊
Thank you. I am using a .75 HP pump for an in ground DIY splasher pool. I though I would have to locate the pump inlet below the waterline by placing it in a hole in the ground, but after watching this, it seems that all I really need is a valve and a garden hose for priming.
Thanks for telling me to shut off pump, then close skimmer valve and drain valve, then open to clean basket help save suction. Works great to help save prime, never knew this.Your the BEST!!!
This video is pure gold. I accidentally stumbled upon yours, and it finally solved my priming problem. No other videos I’ve seen are as good as yours sir. Thankyou very much for your valuable advice!!
I've been a pool owner with help for 5yrs. This year I'm on my own with it. There are so many things I don't know or have been doing wrong. Priming the pump is just one. Thank you for this and the other videos you make. So helpful and information detailed. Thank you so much!.. And I've got my bases covered. Liked. Commented. SUBSCRIBED! 👍🏼🇺🇲
It sometimes takes a few try's to get the pump running. What he's showing you, It's the only way to prime the pump. It does work. Just have patients. It's much easy todo with two people. That's the way i do it. Thank you Sir.😄👍
You did it again! Geez, as a new pool owner, I could not for the life of me, get my pump primed. This video was exactly what I needed. Your key valve replacement and this video are life savers. Thank you!
You were a great teacher. There are other videos on here that don’t explain enough. I am very much a green horn. You explained it wonderfully and my pool is running today! Thank you!!
This worked so well, I was freaking out and then I watched the video and followed the steps and “bang it worked on the first try!!!!! sir you are the Man!
I spent a half hour attempting and re-attempting to prime the pump. After watching this video I did exactly as you said and it worked immediately. I have 2 skimmer lines and a drain line so I worked with 1 skimmer - primed twice with water and slowly engaged the valve and sure enough it worked. then engaged the second skimmer and instantly lost prime...re-primed and then opened skimmer one till it was flowing then slowly slowly engaged skimmer 2 and sure enough it too was primed...then the drain this time really slowly. that took all of 10 minutes. great great video! I just cancelled a service call! I did clean and relube the o-rings, they were dry.
You sir are a gift from god, first time owner here and I did what you said except I was opening the skimmer all the way instead of little by little how you suggested. Thanks for the tips! Thumbs up and sub
Thank you so much Mark. I was at the end of my tether trying to prime a new pump I fitted today that is higher than the pool. Your gently, gently approach with the skimmer valve worked a treat. Cheers.
Just piling on here, but your videos are outstanding! I have an elevated pump with a 50ft run and was completely stumped. The technique you use to prime a little bit at a time using the suction side valve literally saved the day for me. Thank you!!
This video out of the 5 I watched was the only one that showed me what to do because the pump wouldnt prime for anything. Also gave me a tip I never knew with my pump sitting higher than the pool I apparently need to shut off the lines before removing the pump basket lid. I've always had to re prime in the past. Thanks so much!
This guy saved my pool. Every time I called the pool company regarding my pump not priming, they fixed it and charged me $150 without telling me how. It is so simple that even my 11 year old can do that.
For my life long friend and Brother- In- Arms Gene Webb, 101st Airborne. I remember when the VA told you they had never seen anyone with as much Agent Orange in their body and still be alive. Two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and Presidential Citation. You've been gone almost five years but I think of you daily. Two tours in Nam. Damn I miss you. RIP Brother.
One tip I would add is to first fill the drain line up with water from your hose, then close the line. Same with the skimmer line. A lot of air in those lines, especially at season start-up.
@@-redacted_by_youtube - Nope. I've been a pool professional for over twenty years and this tip helps a lot. Especially if your pool equipment is a good twenty feet higher than your pool.
Great, informative video. I never shut off my pump except to change filters. Now I know to close valves to hold suction pipes full so that I can easily start up again.
We have had issues priming our pool since we bought the house at the beginning of 2020 (it’s Oct. 2021 now) and with our pump/filter being about 100ft away uphill I listened to his advice and was able to get the pool primed in less than 10 minutes! Amazing video!!
Absolutely the best informational videos, we just built our 18ft x 50ft inground pool and information out there is very lacking. Your videos are very helpful to say the least
Excellent explanation! Every year, it usually takes a while to get my system primed. I only have 1 valve from the skimmer and the drain and have always kept it open when starting the pump. Next season I will definitely try opening slowly when starting the pump………. 🤞🏻
This dude is an absolute genius. This method worked immediately after hours of priming the pump our traditional way I pay him for this video lol what's your cash app?
Thank you Mark We just talked to you at the store a little while ago and you told us to watch the video very informative awesome everybody needs to watch these!! Thank you so much!!
You are an amazing teacher. You explain clearly and I love how you physically display everything you say. That is how I learn! I usually detest TH-cam tutorials. They take too long to get to the point or they just like to hear the sound of their own voice. Me. Mark, you should most definitely look into learning anything that people seek knowledge, because you make it simple and clear. You have a gift. 😊
This is good advice. In my case, I have a facet above the pump, so I just open the facet and turn on the pump, and then water pours from the tank out of the facet, and when that happens, it starts to fill the pump, then I close the facet. Works every time.
I have been "opening" my own pool for 10 or 15 years, but had trouble this year getting it to Prime.. This video was fantastic very clear explanation. So helpful !!
Great video! Wish I would have seen this video when it first came out, I have had trouble priming my pump every year since I’ve decided to open my pool myself. You have a new subscriber!
I've never had an issue opening my pool until this year. My system is roughly 20 ft away and about 3.5 ft below the pools water line (1/2 way on skimmer). Usually as soon as I unplug my skimmers and open the valves, water flows into the pump basket effortlessly. This year it did not. I'm going to try this priming process and hope for the best.
Great video! You always explain thoroughly. I have a question regarding priming the pump. I have a deep and a shallow skimmer but only 1 valve to control them. What do I do in that scenario? I can send you a pic of the valve setup if you like.
THIS WAS AWESOME- !!!! I am about to start a brand new pool , same setup , in about a week. PLEASE make us a quick video on the filter to the right. I wish I could say it cane with GREAT instructions but your videos are worth 10X that ..I mean it would be great if they explained how I get those legs on the shaft and INTO the filiter...or what is the TUBE with the clear plast hose that seems to go inside...UGGG....They should be clear to the homeowner- Thanks again in advance and for making prime seem simple
He is talking about filling the sand filter and the pump is a new system. In an installed system, one needs only a bucket of water to prime the pump. Just install two check valves - one for inflow , and one at the out flow, so that the plumbing system is full when you open to clean the pump basket, or remove the pump for servicing or repairs.
Love that pump so much easier then trying to quickly put the lid on before the water pours out . I do not have mine hard plumed in , it is just too cold in Ohio!!
similar situation in Greece. Most pools here have the engine room below the water level of the pool. In this overflow pool, the overflow tank is 50 feet away from the engine room and the engine room is ABOVE the water level of the pool. In order for the water not leaving your pipe system and going back to the pool every single time you need to clean the engine's basket or whenever the pool system stops from the timer, just put 2 non return valves that work as the straw. So the priming off your engine is much easier. No need to do all those things with the suction valves and opening the lid of the engine and using a hose. Put a non return valve just before the incoming water of the engine and one non return valve on the outgoing of the engine. It will make your life much easier.
Great video, I’ve tried this process several times with the same result. Water comes out but the pump looses water volume after time. It’s a new system, I have a check valve between the pump and the valve but still no matter how many times I prime it, water flow slowly decreases
There are several things that could be the problem. First I would inspect the check valve this could be the problem. If not you can check out my patreon page and I will be glad to help and go into more detail with you on this issue. Thanks for watching.
Thank you sir, your video solved my problem. Your instructions are clear and logical. Not only did it solve the problem, but I now understand the system. Excellent video.
