Audi Brake Pad Warning Light

  • Today I show you how to disable the annoying warning light for the Front Brake Pads.
    *DISCLAIMER*
    Before we start I will warn you, this completely disables the light. So when your pads are actually low, it will not warn you. As a DIYer, it is your responsibility to keep an eye on the level of your pads. I am not responsible if you let your pads get so low, it ruins your rotors!
    You will need wire cutter, wire strippers, heat-shrink tubing and matches or lighter.

    Well explained, thank you. I tried a little different approach. Since the issue seems to be in the connection I focused on fixing the connection and it took little effort to fix. I have an Audi A8 with 2 pins connectors for the brake pads in great condition. I put a dab of solder on the male pins on the top and slightly on the side then put a dab of de-electric grease in the female hole connectors. This fixed the warning light issue and I still have a brake warning light sensor. Thanks again for the video!

    My 2004 A4 B6 cab has recently started with an intermittent pad wear warning light. Thanks to your video I now know how it works and will have a go at fixing the problem first. Failing that I'll follow your example with a delete. All things relative, it's an old car now and one less thing to go wrong can't be a bad thing. Being old school myself, I do regular visual wear checks as a matter of course. Thanks for posting

    That is a brutal fix. you can remove the wires from the connector with a pin tool and repair it properly.

    I had a similar problem. I continuity tested all the pad wear sensors and they tested good. The solution that worked for me was applying electrical contact grease to the pins in the wiring harness before plugging the pad sensors back in. Light is OFF!

      Seems like an issue as the park light and tail light warning pops up, but the bulb is intact, just slightly loose, reseated it and it's fine. • @audimotive
      @audimotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had this myself but I've read that a bad hood sensor could also cause this. Something about 2 sensors working together to make sure that you check the oil level

    • @audimotive
      @audimotive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check your brake fluid and check your brakes. Usually changing the pads will turn off that light. On a 2012, you have the electric parking brake, which requires a scan tool to open the calipers for new pads and then reset the pad depth in the system

    Brake Pad Warning Light for safety to replace pads

    • @audimotive
      @audimotive  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +ِAbu Hashim yes it is, when it works correctly. On older cars it starts to act up and turns on even if your pads are good. This is for people who check their brakes on a regular basis. If you don't check your brakes when you rotate your tires, don't get rid of this warning system

    • @car_ventures
      @car_ventures 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      People forget that brake pad sensors are new thing and even on new cars, many don't have them. Even with sensors, they shouldn't be completely trusted -can't beat a reliable visual check.

    Something you should never do. By passing this safety feature is not a good idea because the next owner will not know. And some one will have to replace what you cut out if they want it fixed correctly.

  • @martinroberts3977

    Why o why o why didn't you just change your pads, you can see in the video there's only 2mm at best left on them!!!

    • @audimotive
      @audimotive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe I didn't make myself clear. This was done to get rid of a light on the dash, AFTER I changed the brake pads. Brand new Akebono pads. The problem was not with low pads, the problem was with the sensor wiring. Either in the brake pads or at the connector. This is one way to get rid of an idiot light. If you don't feel safe knowing your car won't tell you when to change the pads, don't do it. I did this and posted it because I feel confident I will see the level of the pads when I do a tire swap twice a year. You are correct, DO NOT do this if your pads are getting low and you just don't want to see that light
