Agreed. Philippines will always be the “emerging” tiger cub in SEA. It will never prosper because of the culture, mentality and victim mindset. Thailand on the other hand, is on another level. Rivaling Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. While PH is in the lower bracket rivaling Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka in terms of development. Been to both countries, Thailand is so much better in everything besides speaking English

As Thais, I always love to have chat with Philippino. Philippino are kind and fun as same as Thais. A lot of tradition and foods. The main differ between us is the main religious between Christian and Buddhism.

@@kid_intown Thailand is not rich either. It has an aging population, income inequality, and a sex industry that hides under "tourism". You also have military junta and monarchy to deal with. The Philippines on the other hand, have lots of opportunity waiting to be utilized and used such as its young working professionals.

As a Bangkok local, I’ll say Thailand doesn’t need to compete with other but themselves on their problem as in demographic issues (working age population decline) & also TOO MUCH SAVINGS, as in not enough investment, even though it is a middle income economy.
Thailand should stop focusing on tourism or cheap exports, and promote high tech manufacturing or innovation instead.

I hope there will be more startups here in the Philippines. The problem is financial knowledge is lacking in most filipinos and i didn't see any governmenrt support for startups only the private ones.

@@redpill9723 usually private nakikita ko. DTI are mandated to support start ups pero they don't have any program here sa aming city. They had outreach programs for the under privileged. I didn't even see any programs about the stock market, real estate, bonds, or mutual funds. I don't know sa local government nyo if they do that.
@@redpill9723 all I see is how to make suka, how to make fish crackers, how to make peanut butter and stuff that's already in the market. Every year, the same program. Most of those businesses mawawala lang because of competition.
In comparing the Philippines and Thailand, it's pretty clear that Thailand has the upper hand in almost every aspect. No need to argue about it - infrastructure, tourism, education, healthcare, tech, and even the vibe of the people, Thailand takes the lead. The Philippines also deals with more poverty compared to Thailand. So, that's another aspect where Thailand shines brighter. Talking about political stability, both countries have their challenges, but they've got their own ways of dealing with it. So, overall, they're relatively stable without any major conflicts.

Vibe of the people and nature in Philippines is much better than Thailand. Infrastructure is catching up to Thailand very fast as well. Philippines is just starting with tourism and with its natural assets and ease of moving around improved it will blow Thailand away and return as the gateway to Asia as the Philippines always was until the 1970’s. Philippines is also much more important geopolitically than Thailand. Thailand and Singapores rise in recent years is an aberration, Philippines was always the main game in town until the 1970’s.
Thailand also did nothing in World War Two, Philippines carried the resistance in Asia losing 1 million people in the war. Thailand disgusts me as a nation of collaborators with the Japanese, they don’t deserve the same respect as Philippines who helped save the region at greater cost than virtually any other ASEAN nation.

Philippines is increasingly becoming a strategic partner to the US, Japan, and Australia. All these countries are looking to de-risk from China too. This offers massive opportunities for the Philippines if they move quicker than India.

Philippines had over 80 years of building their economy but still haven't gotten anywhere yet while Vietnam was a war torn country and only started to rebuild their country in the last 20 years but their economy already passed Philippines. Try to catch up with Vietnam again before talking about catching up with Thailand.
@@TommyLeUSAYou bring up great point. Vietnam is interesting. Allot of Vietnam was not real growth early on, but Chinese trying to avoid US tariffs. Now Vietnam has entered into the US security and economic sphere as well. They are still communist and move much quicker than either India or the Philippines to take advantage of opportunities. I do believe that Philippines may eventually be able to advance quicker in the technological space. They don’t have deep ties to China and aren’t communist like Vietnam. They aren’t tied to Russia like India.
@@chillxxx241 Vietnam belongs to sinosphere family and have East Asian culture so Vietnam has no reason to lag behind Taiwan, and Korea. I do believe with the right ingredient, Vietnam will be able to keep up with Eass Asian countries anytime soon but first, they must over come the challenge of corruption and pressure from China. People probably dont know but Vietnam spend most of their resource for national defense against China and will always be ready for China invasion anytime so that pressure really keep them from advancing. China has been Vietnam eternal enemy for over 2000 years now and Vietnamese always view Chinese as the biggest threat to their existence.

The Philippines and Thailand are stuck in the middle-income trap. These two countries have a very low GDP per capita. I believe that only Vietnam has a good economic future, because it is investing heavily in basic education.
That's why we have to come up with EEC with the new Eastern railway networks along with the ongoing construction of the line to Chiang Khong and the line to Nakhon Phanom ... next on the line is SEC with Landbridge.
Education and hard work are human factors, many other factors are needed. Many people believe in Vietnam because we have East Asian culture, this is correct. Korea and Japan are trying to help Vietnam become a developed country, which will be a miracle of Confucianism. You notice that the top 5 countries investing FDI in Vietnam are all East Asia + Singapore. Limit FDI from the Western, why😂
