Although Gaston was a character not in the original telling of Beauty and the Beast, he has since taken on a life of his own after his debut in the 1991 classic. This strong, manly narcissist has since become apart of the Disney villains line up and a staple in the fairy tale, but is there more to him than meets the eye? Who is Gaston?
I post every Tuesday and Thursday, so check back then for more Disney, Pixar, Harry Potter, Star Wars and movie videos! If you have any questions about the Disney universe that you would want answered in a video, please ask away in the comment section!

To be honest, I think it's the fault of the town. If Gaston was never told his behaviour was wrong, then how would he know that he's behaving wrongly? Given all the positive reinforcement he's getting from the townsfolk, I'm sure he thinks that how he acts is how everyone should, which could feed into his vanity, as he thinks he's a "pure paragon" of humanity as a whole, both athletically and in terms of personality.

    • @alessandralee8061

    • @catgoddness

Siah Catlett Yeah I think his behaviour and obsessive advances towards bell stems from some sort of bad childhood such as like you said hus parents being abusive or maybe like mother who was never there or a death of parent at a young age.

I think it was Gaston's parents' faults. He's been obsessed with Belle so long, they would have said something, but perhaps his parents taught him these things, or he had a broken childhood, leading to his ego as an adult.

Gaston’s scream wasn’t just from the fall. It was also from the sudden realization that he was going to die because of how long the fall was. This puts his death on a higher level than most other so called Disney Villain deaths and why it works so well.

The first victim of any villain is himself.

I’ll step in and give my opinion.
The town definitely played a huge part in inflating his ego and never telling him what’s right and what’s wrong.
Now the fact he ignores everything Belle tells him. That is a fault in Gaston. The icing on the cake is the fact after the beast clearly wins the fight he spares Gaston and rather than Gaston learning about compassion and mercy from literally having his life spared by a monster he stabs him in the back.
I’ll back up Gaston all the way up to that part but after he goes to stab the beast in the back. That all falls on him.

Anna Bertilsson why would there be? Disney wanted to make Robin Hood with animals so it would be entertaining. It's based off of a true story. Zootopia is not. Just because there are foxes and rabbits doesn't mean they are linked to each other

in the videos that he made about Zootopia it was mentioned about Reptiles and mammals that live on land, how the Reptiles were not a part of the mammals society, the same went for birds and fish etc. How they were excluded from Zootopia. But I was wondering more about how in Robin Hood these creates were not excluded from the mammal society. In Disney's Robin Hood they alla lived together. What I meant more was if there is a link between both animalistic movies.
Yes, I know that Robin Hood is based off of the story of Robin Hood and therefore has its origins in a historial story. But a lot of Disney's stories are based off of other stories, and there they seemed linked with eachother in the explanations or theories that Wotso Videos has come up with. That was what sparked my curiosity.

I mean I know we've seen Mike as a child but do the monster parents have to be the same "kind". also what would happen if a child kept his closet closed, can monsters still go in? plus why is there a scream shortage if Sulley and Randal are literally the best scarers. and how do the doors work, like I know the boards show which country and they sort of alternate in terms of location but what about time? like does the portal travel through time?? hahaha, i know long comment but I hope that inspires you I truly enjoy your videos!

Personally, the character of Gaston is frightening if you watch closely. because he is a selfish jock who doesn't listen to the answer "no" and just keeps forging ahead to get what he wants, reguardless of whether or not it is wrong, or could hurt someone else. the world is full of those types of people who think they are in the right and are ignorant and blind to others pain as long as they are on the top of the world and run everything. I would rather make friends with someone who looks different and is misunderstood like the Beast (aka Prince Adam), than someone who is unpredictable and rageful if they don't get what they want.

Gaston's personality problems are both his and the towns fault, but his obsession with Belle can be blamed on Belle herself as well, to a certain degree.
The way she always blows Gaston off, is always this polite, or dismissive manner that Gaston can interpret in many ways. "Not today", "You're not good enough", "You're just slightly off."
Gaston is incredibly determined man and as someone who has known him for years, Belle should know this.
She never just outright tells him that "Yeah, I'm just not interested in men like you."
In the end, Gaston flies off the handle, when Belle confesses that she is love with a hideous Beast, rather than him, which is a massive blow to his ego, pride, and heart.
Did Gaston get what he deserved at the end of the movie? Absolutely. But none of this had to have happened if Belle had been more straight forward.

Pinklover175 Molly could have blond hair, from a recessive gene. Like she had 1/4 of having blond instead of brown. But if you don't like that theory than look at the mom in the other films. Notice that the first film in toy story it is brown, in the second film she has brown/blond hair, in the third film it is dirty blond. I repeat dirty blond hair, not hair that is graying of old age, it is dirty blond. So maybe she didn't have brown hair. But those are just my theories.

i actually don't believe gaston is evil at all. think about it: the girl you've loved your whole life is held hostage at the castle of a monstrous beast, who at this point has been hardly anything but hostile toward her (admittedly i don't know if gaston actually knew about that, but bear with me - to the townspeople, the beast is nothing more than a murderous and selfish monster). if you're a hunter already, wouldn't you want to go save her? i'm of the mind that belle legitimately is suffering from stockholm syndrome here, and i know you made a video saying that she's not, but whether she is or she isn't, gaston doesn't know that the beast isn't as monstrous as he looks. none of the townspeople know that. the film does an excellent job with covering that up with a negative bias and highlighting gaston's self-centered and self-entitled tendencies. but i think he genuinely loved belle. he could, in theory, have any woman in the town he wants, but he's loved her since he was a child and wants to be with her, and because he's stubborn, keeps chasing after her even though she always tells him no. yes it's obsessive and gaston is far from a great guy, but i think you're making him out to be worse than he is.

Gaston is one of my favorite movie characters of all time. He's perfectly written to juxtapose the Beast's growing humanity and love throughout the film, while he becomes more violent and beastly as it goes on, amounting to an incredible battle between the two where this comparison is driven home. He's also the perfect subversion of the classic Disney hero. He's handsome, muscular, and is considered the best by everyone, and therefore, deserving of Belle, but the movie cleverly uses his misconception of how this situation would work as a way to make him seem more menacing. He's driven by his own ego, because all his life, people have been telling him how great he is, and it drives him to go even further to get what he wants. The animation and Richard White's performance sell his descent into villainy perfectly. He's also absolutely hilarious. His utter incompetence mixed with his innate bravado and charisma, as well as Richard White's cartoonishly operatic delivery, makes every single interaction he's a part of hysterical. His song is a gift to humankind, as it highlights how everyone props him up all the time, and it also has some of the greatest lyrics and rhymes of all time. Gaston is a perfect villain for this movie and he works on so many levels, and let's not forget, he's roughly the size of a barge.

Yes, he was sexist, and a bit narcissistic, but he was the best, and he was still getting all the chicks anyways. Being sexist in this time period was quite normal, and even encouraged. The narcissism stemmed from the fact that he was the best. There is no doubt about that. His infatuation with Bell is easily explained away through the fact that she is different, and he wanted something different. Also, he wanted a challenge since he was very competitive with himself and he wanted the one challenge he could not best.

You’ve got this wrong. The beast was a selfish insecure man who only cared about the looks of the old woman, that’s why he rejected her. Remember that’s why he was punished by being turned into the beast. The film only really portrays Gaston negatively to critique masculinity and a ‘provincial life’ as Belle puts it. Which is essentially a monogamous family life lol Belles character is about wanting to live some fantasy life like in the storybooks she reads and Gaston gets in her way. She’s really just some selfish girl with delusions of grandeur. Gaston is just a masculine man who is frustrated when things don’t go his way and doesn’t do anything to hurt Belle. The beast does. He traps her in his dungeon and Gaston doesn’t hesitate to rally the townspeople to attack him. For all he knows a dangerous monster kidnapped Belle. He’s not really a villain but is portrayed as one ☝🏻 Also The beast and Belle learn no lessons and don’t change at all throughout the film it’s all very dumb

Selfish girl with delusions of grandeur? You tell that to every woman who rejects you? Do you lack so much self confidence that you need to believe in the bullshit a madman spews on a daily basis? Do independent women who want more of their lives intimidate you?
You are so dumb that you don't even realize that Gaston is the actual guy with delusions of grandeur and spoiler: Women aren't obligated to have sex with you just for being polite. Why don't you try to improve your predicament instead of acting like a brat just because you were rejected?
Oh wait, you were never rejected, because you never asked out a woman nor you ever talked to one. You just expected them to fall into your lap without putting any kind of effort whatsoever.

Where did you get that? From John Doyle? Your argument in a nutshell: "I wanted Belle/Gaston to be canon, but because that didn't happen I am bitter and angry."

Ask Gaston at Walt Disney World how he feels as Gaston, and which version of Gaston does he feel like he is, the animated Disney classic, or the 2017 version

Gaston actually reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. This lady going with Jerry hates George. When Jerry breaks up with her George wants to go out with her. Something about being rejected made him ready dig her. Gaston must have a similar experience.
