I just created my 60th Tav in Baldur's Gate 3. I never ever create a version of myself in videogames, what I love is creating unique combinations of class, background, race, gender, skin color, tattoo, hair style... So I never repeat any particular combination.

yeah, i think at some point i’m gonna introduce some random generation in both for character creation and actions, bc i do tend to fall into the trap of “caster main plays squishy caster, romances specific person etc etc”

I actually avoid making a version of myself in game. I tend to gravitate towards other races than human, keeping in mind hair and clothing options when selecting body type. for instance if haircuts and beards are lacking, I generally prefer doing a female, because they tend to have more thought put into their wardrobes (not always for the better mind you, looking at you, legendary bikini armors). The characters I hold dearest in my memories are the ones I might hate if they were real, like my racist and sexist bard dwarf from my DnD campaign or my power hungry Charr from GW2. But I guess that goes with my lack of interest for life simulation games, be it the sims or gas station simulator, which do not allow me to experience something wildly different from my life.

i mean all my characters have parts of me but i am a very escapist gamer so it will be like. Character A has this specific lived experience that i have but they are also their own whole person that ties into the story.
and then yeah, neutral to evil characters or just immoral really flawed characters are always interesting to explore. the body of literature on that is truly tiny, but there is some interesting stuff out there around how we use fictional characters/stories to sort through complex emotions. i’ll probably deep dive into it eventually lol

Same! I think it's the gender dysphoria and love for roleplaying that cause this for me. Maybe I'll start making myself once I've fully transitioned, but I'll probably still always make rp characters outside of myself. I want my characters to fit into the World after all.

it's always so comforting, i'm an artist and i love designing characters, but sometimes art is hard and i just want to design a character without needing to figure out proportions or sketching. i love your room by the way!

aww thank you! yeah, as someone who can’t art but can describe the way it looks in my head, i love that bit of character creation- just getting it out of my head and in front of my eyeballs!

MegaTraveller 2: Quest for the Ancients, and I have no regrets. The character creator was an entire game in itself (two actually, one was more random and the other was career oriented).

The first game I played with character creation was Final Fantasy 1. It was primitive but, I spent a good while thinking of their names and what team they should be. IMO character creation WITH team creation is what I want in my games.
