Used to visit Pagham in the 1980's, its hard to believe how much the harbour mouth has changed, the spit across the entrance wasn't there then and the water used to flow in and out with a fierce current but its always been prone to changing over the years I think from both natural and man made causes.

i remember as a kid huge cod jumping out of the sea they had got caught in the turning tide and jumped to make head way
