just letting you, that when you lay the glass gravel/foam aggregate, you will need to compress it. once it has been compressed, check the level and you may need to add some more. When you are pouring the limecrete floors, at that stage, lay the wooden laths. that way they are imbedded in the floor. Once you have the limecrete floors poured, they will need three months to cure. some say you can walk on them sooner. You can tile on limecrete floors but you need to use a lime friendly grout. Good luck with your project.
The part about the people in your phone being real and just might get inspired 😆 Glass gravel? Breathable membrane in the flooring? I learned a thing or two from this video! Also about the radon, which I *think* isn't something I had to worry about at my childhood home, but worth keeping in mind for wherever I end up settling to live out the rest of my life. This video actually has me wanting to say, "To hell with just hoping to find a nice house or cottage, let's renovate one that's on a nice piece of land so it's just the way I want it!" Go raibh maith agat, Tara! And hi, Max, furry void rogue of the attic!
I'm glad you mentioned radon! I have that issue where I'm at in the USA, too. I remember hearing about radon for the first time and just went "WHAT DO YOU MEAN there was radioactive gas in the basement I grew up in?!?" Scary stuff, but it's great there there a ways to prevent and mitigate it.
Such a useful video! I’m in a very similar kinda point of planning and what needs to be done to help remove the damp, add radon barriers etc. and then flooring! I’m hoping to be able to do a lot of it myself too! Great to watch what you’re doing!
Always useful to see these videos, thank you! Love all your content. Every time we have doubts we watch a video on buying a derelict. It's inspired us to make the leap, we have bought a vacant and will be moving into it in May. Haven’t got a clue what we're getting ourselves into but we'll work it out 😂 good luck planning the renovations!
OMG congrats Roibeard!!! Glad you've been finding the vids helpful, and glad the stone of housing insecurity has been removed.....now we attach the stone of house renovation 😅 But a better life for sure. On my worst day here I wouldn't change a thing x
Just a wee suggestion, if you are putting in a whole new floor, have you considered adding underfloor heating? That is the time to do it, and it would really help keeping you toasty warm in winter, as well as keeping the house dry from the floor up.
We have (and the small discussion about it somehow got edited out). We don't want our floors much higher than they already are, and we likely can't dig down any deeper beyond the subsoil.
Looks like you have a plan😎. Be prepared for things not going to plan at times, but I’m convinced your positives attitudes will overcome those. I’m intrigued to find out how the hell your cat is getting into the attic!!
Great now yeve a plan in place ye can really make & keep an eye on progress. 🎉u can just tile the limecrete too. Careful not to undermine the walls, there wont be any foundations.
❤ Always lovely to see a notification from you and that a video is out! You two are fanatastic. Is the house plan you used the sims one? Asking because I’m thinking of doing the same but I’m not great at all these bits of 3d planning software and thought sims I might be able to grasp lol Love the plans for the floor and also love your drawing because it breaks it down in easy to understand levels. I read a lot on Facebook groups and it always goes over my head a little. What a beautiful boy Max is! We have a cat that quite enjoys being on your shoulders, as I type she is sleeping on Bens (husband) shoulders! Once again, always love watching your videos, you never fail to make us laugh. ❤ Ooh ooh nearly forgot….we’re in Leitrim too and I loved Dave’s enthusiasm for getting digging through the floor…we had Esb connect us back at the end of the year and oh my goodness….the rocks that live below us makes us scared to try digging French drains around this place! They had to bring in a bigger breaker for it 😮
Best of luck with the French drains, ours took forever 😅 Yes, I used The Sims 3 and will use it as a visual reference when design is finalised, but the measurement ratios in the game are notoriously inconsistent so I would keep that in the forefront of your mind at all times or else it will drive you mad 😅
@@DiaryofaDitchWitchyeah I have a feeling ours will too. You and Dave good job on yours though with all the trouble they caused! Have they made a big difference to how squelchy the land gets away from the drains? The back of our house has a ditch either side of the land but the land between those ditches is soooo wet…we were wondering if sticking French drains or the like across the land will help it to drain. Have you done anything like that? Thanks for the heads up with the sims and the measurements…I think I just want something to help me visualise how a room could look with a wall here and there. Hard to see it when you’re stood in an empty room sometimes..for me anyway😅
IMO radon barrier in this kind of property is not going to work… it has to be installed and tested at foundation stage of a build… I’d say you better of installing MHRV which will constantly vent ur house plus will help with humidity levels as well big time ! I can’t wait to get my own derelict cottage 😊 good luck 🍀 with renovations ❤

Hi love your videos. And good luck to you both.
Good luck 😊
Great video both of you. Who knew what’s under a floor!! Love the idea of using glass. Xx

@@thecornerhouseproject not really any less squelchy anywhere else, probably due to high clay content in soil.
