    Un million de gracias !! you don’t know how long I’ve been looking for this recipe exactly the way you make it is the way my great grandmother, my grandmother and my great aunts all made it and I couldn’t find the recipe because I couldn’t remember what it was called thank you so much. Have a positive wonderful 2025.

    Now this is for us Boricuas is soul food. I love funche on bacalao. And what you don't like bacalao. LOL, no way.

    I grew up on funche y guinganbo con bacalao guisado en Puerto Rico. I lived in Santa Cruz USVI y allá le llaman Funguie and okra with Salt fish is done exactly the same way. We do it my ex mother in law was from St Croix and she made it for me all the time. I haven't tried to make it but I will tomorrow

    My Mom would make this and put fish with gravy over it. It was awesome...thank you for reminding me of the comfort delicious food. :)

    Wow my mom used to make me this when I was a kid, i had totally forgot about this meal lol soooo good. She also made it savory.

      same here.. unfortunately she took the recipe to the grave.. nobody in my family knows how she made it, but i do remember one thing, my grandma never used big chunks of onions and peppers, she would dice them so they would almost disappear when it was cooked. and it was soo yummy!

    What part of Puerto Rico are you from? The part where we are from we make it a bit different and is sweet not savory. It looks good I will be trying it soon.

    how do you keep the cilantro from getting black and keeping it fresh?

      When you buy it cut the ends and put it in a cup of water and place it in the fridge. It should last you a while.

    I remember my Mother n Tio doing this harina con manteca
    N served it w leftover habichuelas for late visitors. Would this b called funche too?

      Yes. When it's served with beans it's called funche clavoteao.

    Exacto, la versión dulce se llama simplemente "maizena". Si es funche, es salado.

      La version dulce es simplemente harina de maiz or crema de harina de maiz. Maizena es algo diferente, es facula de maiz.

    In the VI we call it fungi (pronounced fungee).
