- Take 5 minutes with me and learn how to build this full size floating bed frame with led lights. This is the third version of my super popular original queen size floating bed frame. Please check my channel videos section if you’d like to see the King size version also. In this video, I will cover all the dimensions needed to make your very own full size. I have the video set up in a DIY format and I will discuss some mistakes I made to help you save some time and money if you choose to build this. I’d sure love to hear from you in the comments section. If you’ve built this based on a previous design of mine, please let me know what you think of this build. It was pretty easy but you really helped your describing is perfect! and I was looking for a design for a while because there was a lot of them that where okay but very big and my room isn't the biggest room so when I found this video I got really happy! I even bought wood bexs I don't know what you call it in English but it's basically a oil or something and you just pensel it on and now it's like a darker wood color and it just bring the wood back you see all the wood textures and that look real good in my opinion.Thanks a lot I'm super happy whit the results! Sorry for my speling or explaining I'm not the best at English😁😂😬
@Magge Hubbaren Hey Magge, I think the wood bexs may be what we can stain here in USA. It’s like a colored transparent liquid that does exactly what you are saying…brings out the natural grains of the wood, and I totally agree with you. The natural look of the wood is *much* better than any paint you could put on there. Your English is great! I totally understand you. I wish I could reach you on another platform so it would be easier to communicate with you so I can fully express my gratitude for your comments and your feedback here. You said your English isn’t very good so I assume you are speaking with me in a secondary language for you. My video here is in imperial measurements. Did you convert them over to metric or do you know how to read an imperial tape measure? Your hard work and determination is very humbling to me. You are a star Magge. Keep up your fantastic work. @@CurtisMadeIt yes that's exactly what I meant! Thanks a lot for that, I have a B in English but I'm mostly good at talking not spelling so thanks a lot. And about the measuring I do know a little but I kinda used like a translator to se the exact measurements, and also yes I come from Sweden so I talk Swedish as a my main language but in school my secondary language is English. I would love to keep talking and just give update on the bed but mostly just the room because the bed is pretty much done, so if there is any platform you would rather talk on I wouldn't mind!

Built this for my son today, Thanks for the video. For anyone who didn't catch the joist measurements/placement it was 15,31,47 and 62. I purchased the 2×6 at 8ft today for $7.08 a piece.

How many pieces of wood should I get
@Pap1gee Hey John, all of them, of course! Haha, just kidding 😎 You are gonna need eleven 2x6x8 untreated boards for this build as it is in the video. Use some of your off cuts from the top assembly(the frame) for the bottom assembly(the base). Does that help? Any other questions my friend? Thanks for your time and support here 🤝

Saying hello from PA...I'm about to build this bed twice...once for my son and once for my daughter. They both wanted floating beds and this plan is by far the easiest to do. Thanks!
If my wife likes it, I might try to do it without any fasteners...i.e half lap joint...thanks for the video!

I made this. My only suggestion is to get a 4x8 OSB or plywood it’ll create a flat surface which will help if you’re kneeling or sitting at the edge of the bed. A foam mattress will sink.
@Greg Ricks Jr. Hey Greg, thanks so much for this. I usually recommend a box spring as this is what I had when I first started this TH-cam channel years back. I've since built this full size and a king size floating bed frame(even though I don't own either size mattress) just to show you guys how to do it. In the absence of a box spring, yes, either some type of plywood will work or some people have even used cedar fence pickets! I very much appreciate your time and support. I used your video to make my sons bed. I used 2x4s for the cross beams so I could leave a 2” lip at the top so the mattress sat inside the frame. Then I ran 1x3s from head to foot serving as a slat roll basically.

nice work you may have been able to get away with the frame tilt by screwing in to the wall joists as a cheat if you wanted to give a more floating effect but your method is far more stable- love the shoes

You are likely correct, I could bolt the bed frame to the wall, but I'm in an apartment and I'd like to keep my videos as user friendly as possible. I think securing to the wall would drive some potential users away. When you use 2x6's for the base and the frame, as illustrated in the video, there is no need to secure to the wall. When built correctly, this bed frame will support multiple people that are very large. Some people have left their height/weight on some of the other floating bed frame videos posted on this channel and I’ve been thoroughly impressed to hear that their bed frames are holding up just fine. If you are wanting to make storage underneath it like the king size bed frame you made, would you just widen out the frame or would it work the same?
@MadisonGough-l5y Hey Madison, just take the foot board of the base and straddle it over the top of the side and middle boards and secure it down from the top to leave the foot area open for storage...no need to widen it at all unless you are trying to accommodate for specific storage bins. This one is built with...very simply...11 - 2x6x8's, cut to size. Make sure to cut the pieces for the frame first, and then use your off cuts for those two shorter pieces in the base. I made this last week, it was fairly simple, just had a few hiccups because I didn’t have the right tools… well, the day I finished it was the day I found out I have a queen mattress NOT full 😫 I wish I was kidding. I looked at the video of the queen floating frame but the base is too different so I’d have to make the whole thing from scratch. I’m gonna try to modify this to a queen and see if I can make it work 😅 but Thank you so much for posting this! It was my first DIY project and I really enjoyed the process

It's a fascinatingly wonderful hobby/craft/experience/whatever you want to call it. You only mess up things like this once or twice and you learn pretty quickly to make sure you are cutting the right dimensions. You should be able to use some of the boards from the full size that you built in the new queen size build that you are going for. What is never mentioned was the reason for instability. Was it the base or the lack of weight when using 2x4's as a frame instead of 2x6's.
@nathantronnier4207 Hey Nathan, good morning. Yes. The answer you your question is yes. The reason that wasn’t mentioned in the video is so that you and I can have this conversation here today. I think it was a combination of both. The wider base and the additional weight of the 2x6’s was what ended up making the difference. I don’t like these to tip at all before I post the videos and I made sure to include the final dimensions that I used. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions at all. @audrykrueger-cade5343 Hey Miss Audry, lets get on the same page. The base touches the floor, the frame touches the mattress. This design is flexible. As built in the video, yes, both base and frame are 2x6. You can use 2x8/2x10/2x12 for the base if you would like for your mattress to sit up higher and you can leave the foot area open for storage if you would like also. I want you to take a moment to watch the twin size floating bed frame video I have posted on this channel and use the 2” L-shaped corner brackets to secure the base to the frame instead of the Simpson strong ties. Do you still use a box frame or just put the mattress onto the frame? Also, are you happy with that layout or would you make the bottom footprint just a bit wider?
@daniel 01 Hey Daniel, thanks for stopping by. Yes, you still need the box spring for this bed frame. I think I was happy with it once I got done. As I mentioned in the video, I don't even have a full size mattress, my personal is the queen 3.0 posted on this channel. It was more than stable enough once I widened the base just a little bit.
