It's actually safe to wake a sleepwalker, it's not dangerous, that's a myth. Just wake them calmly and help them get back to bed safely. It's dangerous to leave them walking around unconscious, or bringing them back to bed without waking them (they'll just sleepwalk again).
The commonly held myth is that it's dangerous to the sleepwalker, not the person doing the waking, so that doesn't disprove what I said. But anyway your mother probably didn't wake her the right way.
People typically do things like shake the person's shoulder and shout "wake up, you're sleepwalking!", which can be startling and disorienting. Also they try to explain what's going on and keep waking them until the person responds. Sleepwalkers are in a deep sleep so you shouldn't be forceful and you should let them stay groggy & mostly unaware, just quietly help them back to their bed.

I got woken up by 8 Japanese police officers and let me tell you, it wasn’t safe because they were aggressive. To be fair once I was clearly awake and could explain the situation everyone calmed down. All was cool but you should be calm when you wake a sleepwalker.

Zanzubaa1 my mom once knew someone who shopped on amazon while sleeping. Know joke, she would buy hundreds of dollars worth of stuff and every morning she had to look on amazon and return everything.

When I was around 12 years old, I had a friend stay over for the night on the weekend. I didn't know this until the middle of that night, but apparently he frequently sleep walks. I woke up and he wasn't in the room. I left the room and heard a noise coming from this little open close we had where we had our cats litter. I opened the curtain to the closet and he was standing there pissing into the cat's litter. I didn't want to wake him up mid piss... so I just left him and went back to bed. Once he came back into the room he slept the opposite way on the bed we made for him and the next day he woke up and had no memories of this. He said he wasn't surprised though, because he usually sleep walks.

There is a medication that made me sleepwalk one night apparently I went outside naked and took a piss in the backyard it was also snowing outside and when I woke up that morning my step mom who had witnessed this told me I could not believe her but I have walked in the snow while in my boxers no shoes to use the bathroom luckily I lived in the country at the time

And one night she found me standing on the coffee table jumping off.
And once I was rummaging though the pantry and she said I said "I need to get to the shady side of the bus."
As a little kid as well I woke up climbing on top of my dollhouse.

I've never sleepwalked, but my sister used to when she was younger. Apparently, I commonly talk in my sleep.

I sleepwalked as I child... I slept insidr my bedroom, the next day,my neighbor saw me lying on their lawn, my mom apologized alao because I had random peanut butter on my face
I sleep cook full meals/set the table, and sleep text/call ppl. It only happens if I am under stress before going to bed or I am not getting enough sleep. Most ppl won't stay over at my house anymore since it weirds them out. Except my roommate and boyfriend who just watch me cook, and eat the food I set out. They find it funny.
I live far from my boyfriend but we video chat, apparently he caught me sleep walking several times.
1.) we were on the phone video chating and he watched me walk out of my room, downstairs and eat a cold, raw hot dog before returning to bed.
2.) get out of bed asked where I was going and just said "Getting milk" then proceeded to go downstairs get milk, and put it in the microwave before coming back upstairs and passing out.
3.) I'm not sure if this counts but during a period of almost sleep walking he thought it'd be great to mess with me by asking me hard math and science questions as well as other things. Apparently I went on a rant for an hour over, know some damn good division, am amazing at science and can hold a 2 hour conversation all while asleep. I wish I was that smart when i'm awake because I suck at math and science.

Happy Birthday Rhett! I used to sleepwalk all the time when I was younger. I lived in the same house until I was 15. Then my family moved to Germany, and I haven't done it since before we moved. I used to talk to my parents in my sleep. I ate things a few times in my sleep. And one time I actually used the bathroom in my sleep, except I peed in the bathtub instead of the toilet. lol
My brother told me that once, at like 2am, a sleepwalked into his room, and randomly wandered over to the window. He told that I mumbled “I got some jumbo jumbo from jumbo” and then stared back at the door. Then I turned back around to window and randomly started clawing at it repeating “come back” over and over again. I just wandered back out of his room and went to bed. If I was is his position. I would just be like “wtf......”

My brother is 10 years old, and slept in my room on the floor the other night, because he couldn't sleep. In the middle of the night, he got up to go to the bathroom. Two hours later, I realized that he still hadn't come back from the bathroom. He had sleep walked downstairs, and fell asleep on the couch.

one time when I was asleep, my sister and I were sleeping on two couches and behind the couches there was the door to the garage, when my sister was about to go to sleep, and I got out of bed, climbed over my couch, and when over the the door and opened it. My sister saw this and said,“Amber go back to bed" my eyes were open so I looked like I was awake, but then I closed the door climbed back onto the couch and went to sleep. story time by me! my dad is DEFINETLY A SLEEP EATER. when I lived with my parents. I would go to the kitchen to get something to drink or something in the middle of the night and see my dad on the computer which was right next to our dining room I remember 1 time I tried talking to him and he was just rambling on about some car nonsense while eating a bag of the big bag of mini chocolate donuts. I didn't really think anything of it until the NEXT morning because when I said "hey dad I'm gonna make some eggs and sausage do you want any?" and he looks at me and says no my stomache hurts. THINKING to myself "well if you didn't shovel all those donuts in your mouth you'd be fine but whatever." any who the day goes on and it's like noon or So, him and I in the kitchen and he grabs the bag of donuts in the fridge and he's like "what the hell?! I just bought these yesterday krissy you could have saved me more than 2 at least." and I said "1st off dad you know I don't like chocolate like that and 2nd you were the one stuffing your face in the bag last night at 1 of clock at night." and he just gave me this look that I WILL NEVER forget. I will tell this story to him a million times and to this day he still says "well if I don't remember it didn't happen."
p.s. pretty much the same story happened with a family sized bag of red doritos...or and bbq lays!
