    Another thing to bear in mind is that the OR3’s are packed full of PUR whereas PAR is just an amount of light 👍

    • @Mike__B
      @Mike__B 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, but when comparing LEDs to LEDs, most LEDs PUR and PAR are fairly equivalent well except when LED makers use too many white LEDs or green (ick) LEDs, since all the blue/royal blue/violet LED colors that they use are all within the same photosynthetic range.

    I don't mind these bars, but orpheks engineering is questionable, opening up the atlanik v4 it looks like an overpriced blackbox.

      Oh yeah? I'd be curious to see what's inside, and would be really telling if they do the same "thin metal license plate for heatsink" that the black boxes use.

    I got an OR3 60 about a month ago and I really like it but the shadows are definitely going to have to be addressed. I think I'm going to get a reefbrite XHO 50/50 light to complement because it has a much wider spread than the orpheks, even though it has less power at its peaks, the coverage should be a great complement.

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that'd look good - the blue plus OR3 gives a nice little extra blue that takes the edge off my white, but it doesn't overwhelm with too much blue. I'm considering getting 2x Red Sea 160s with two of these either side for my tank.

      I've changed my lights now, but I really liked the Orphek and thought about having it in my new setup. I chose Reefbrites instead because they give better spread, but the blue plus was great. The blue sky looks interesting too so worth thinking about too...

    Alright mate, after the stream thinking of getting one of these orphek lights myself instead of the hybrid set-up I'm looking at, as 1. finding the bulbs is next to impossible, 2.the cost of the fixture and lights is going to be over £500, 3. Plugging in the hybrid fixture which has 2 plugs and as you no sockets are hard to find LoL 😂. So I'm thinking of suspending one of these at the front of the tank as I don't have many Cora's at the back I just need more light at the front, what do you think? And do you think it would add anything to the tank ie grow corals better, nicer colours in the aquarium. Cheers Alex 👍

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ste. They give a different effect to T5s of course, but it's another good choice. It'll add par, a nice bit of spectrum and it'll give a nice colour. So it'll increase growth, but I wouldn't expect a massive difference. Although i'd expect your alkalinity consumption to increase. Visually, it'll look better though for sure. Orphek are bringing out an all 450-470nm version though which in my opinion gives a much nicer look - proper nuclear fluorescence! The one I have does give good fluorescence, but it includes violet and more muted blues so it's a more subtle effect. My dream setup is 2x Kessil AP500x with 2 of the new 450nm Orhpeks either side.

      @@ReefDork I no you mentioned something like that in your video, looking at some serious money for that set-up, this is the problem in this hobby is that we are always trying to find perfection, albeit in the lighting department or skimmers or return pump's, and it all costs a fortune, I could of travelled the world for the amount I've spent on my tank. well hopefully kessil is watching and updates the AP700 to include orphek style light bars, they could even design them so they were kind of like a slide on addition so you didnt have to fork out all the money at once.......id like to also see a design from orphek where these units could be daisy chained or clipped together to keep wiring down to a minimum and then borrow kessils idea of an additional spectral controller,or maybe how about reef lights with google\Alexa voice integration hmmm....cheers Alex.

    Curious how these compare to the cheap knockoffs blue bars that you see on Aliexpress (considerably cheaper price too), granted I think those are only blue LEDs so the Orphek definitely has a leg up on spreading out the wavelengths, but still for the budget reefer they may be a decent alternative to T5s.
    I am also surprised at your comment about using OR3s with 2 Kessil fixtures, you seem(ed?) to like the "budget" Evergrow fixtures you have over the tank quite a bit, I think you even said it was one of your favorite pieces of reef gear in another video (?).

    • @LightSearch
      @LightSearch 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got one of those from Aliexpress for my 2nd refugium but before putting it there I tried it on my tank to suplement my Aqua Medic Angels.
      Maybe I'm too used to have the front of my tank look dark (the tank is 90 cms wide), but the led bar made the tank look cheap.
      That being said, they are powerful enough to make a difference, they blend the different colours well and I'm sure my corals would love to have some extra light beyond what's being reflected by the front glass.
      I decided not to get them for the tank, not because I thought they lack quality, but because I prefer to have strong shadows right at the front of the tank.
      This test made me give up on the idea of adding any sort of extra diffuse light to the tank.
      Bottom line is, these Aliexpress bars are good lights.
