And shoutouts to Stress Level Zero for being one of the best game developer studios of all time. They made BONELAB, BONEWORKS, and Hover Junkers, which were the main thematic inspirations of this ROM hack.

If anyone is wondering what Simple means in the hallway by "this is doc ock as hell" at 24:15 I encourage you to look up the Spider-Man (2000) carnage doc ock chase so you can feel the nightmares that every 90's/00's kid had to be subjected to.
I attempted that like 57 times as a kid, on the lowest difficulty. I beat it ONCE.
In game, texture based video clips? changing character models mid level?? Beveled edges??? Rovert is COOKING

You know, I feel like all the "FAKE ENDING KILL THEM ALL" jokes sometimes make me forget just how both creative and talented rovert is both when it comes to level design and gameplay ideas... this and the dog hack that he worked on are both very good examples of that
Also, as far as I am aware this is the first time we have gotten a recording with synced audio played entirely within SM64, which is super impressive
Those running gags are also why Simple tends to make fun of Rovert's writing at most opportunities lol
But really, as someone who's been following these comps for a few years now, Rovert is fucking amazing and impressive, especially with how far along he's come with each new hack. I honestly wanna see a full-on hack from him with his current skill level, but full-feature instead of being a short hack for a hack competition. I bet he could pull off something amazing.

Oh yeah, I just realized it could also be an OOT shadow Link reference. I just thought it was another Pizza Tower reference (Peppino's clone) given the music.
@@blazingblight2706 I haven’t seen Pizza Tower tbh. I remember that island room in the water temple and shadow link is your reflection. Such a memorable moment makes me wish they had brought shadow link back in the new games and not just as a costume.

Look this rom hack is incredible, like it's really really good, but I got to step back for a second and tell everyone that the game that it's referencing, Boneworks, is really awesome. Anyone who has access to a VR headset and can handle non-teleporting movement in VR should definitely give it a shot. It's a lot of fun! I've heard the sequel isn't as good but I haven't had a chance to play it yet as I can't set up my VR right now, but yeah the original is great.
I am not sure if Simple played Boneworks before.

Watching Rovert's hacks over the years really shows an amazing timeline of their increasing level of skill at not just making hacks but also their ability to tell a story. From the days of fake ending to the team rocket pads not working to the modern Rovert who just pushes every aspect of romhacking. They're truly turned into one of the greatest to ever do it.

The character development from "How are they broken" to this is something the writers must've worked really hard on, props to Rovert's actor for bringing the character to life

Out of everything in this competition a Boneworks themed hack is not what I expected.

Edit : All jokes aside, Rovert, buddy, you just keep getting better and better. You made some monster hacks way back when, but after finishing the whole video, this is unprecedented. This may as well be a whole game on its own, just swap out the M64 models and textures and you’d have a full-fledged project. It’s hard to believe I remember Chip’s Challenge 64 way back when. From arrows to fake endings to cum floods, we’ve had a wild ride, but you really are a contender for one of my favorite parts of SimpleFlips, both channel and memes. You’re a household name around here, and that’s fully deserved. We love you Rovert, even if we all do torment you sometimes.

It's amazing to compare romhacks from before this competition series to now. Every single year the hacks are pushing new ground. At this rate, some may be better off as full games made in a modern engine. Its very impressive.
What a journey! 4 characters, each with their own unique actions, unique obstacles and boss fights, FMVs! Crisp audio, and just similar enough to SM64 to not feel alienating. Truly, a legendary piece of work.
Seeing Rovert come so far is so cool. It feels like yesterday he was doing fake endings and broken arrows.

@@guy_th18 It's a large texture with a small bump in the wall for fake perspective. Was worried that SimpleFlips would see right through the illusion, but I caught him hook, line, and stinker.

HEEELP! There was a song request a while ago. The thumbnail of the ost is a moon with a purple galaxy. I think it's a top down space ship shooter. The singer sounded like Hatsune Miku. I liked the song but the video got deleted. I had 2 playlist with the video in it. But it's just gone now.

The recorded video of Rovert in the hack doesn't even feel real, like I'd be more inclined to believe it was just a post-edit but I know it's legit. Then the rest of the hack is just as bananas. Absolutely incredible.
