    PLEASE everyone look up Article III of the US Constitution. It clearly states that Justices shall retain their offices "under good behavior" which is, yes, a *potential* life term. But this is not automatic and is dependent upon things like *not committing crimes.* Traditionally it has been a life term. But up until the last 25 years we didn't have a Court that redefined amendments, appointed presidents, vetoed laws, wrote new laws, or took bribes. They also didn't commit felony perjury during the job interview.

      It is the continuance of the Jan 6th coup. It is no coincidence that only the Trump-aligned conservative religious zealot judges agreed to review the appeal. It is the watchtower death cult that has been set loose after Comey was sacked by the clown. Trump purposefully ruined the FBI chain of command so as to take the heat of the evangelist sects that threatened this exact scenario. David Karesh was just one nutball and look at the carnage he created. Now the same ilk has paramilitary groups and SCOTUS in their pocket commanded by the messaging of people like Trump, sycophant Marge and Gym Jordan. Funded by toxic companies like Koch ( who actually got caught trying to create a coup in Venezuela but apparently that's just normal, so much so that Bolton joked about its regularity).
      This has been in the pipeline for decades but Americans have been blinded by all the bells and whistles of unfettered, neo-liberal capitalism and completely ignored the dangers of allowing such strong legal protections for corporate cronyism whilst singing the claim that America is the best country in the world. It has always been exactly what Carling said-'The American dream is exactly that because the US has yet to wake up.' Well, now that dream has become a real nightmare.

    What ever happened to the 3 branches of government supposedly applying checks and balances to each other? When I think of it, when have the legislative or executive branches really put the reins on the SC?

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      so, here's the basic idea:
      1. the legislature makes the law
      2. the executive implements and enforces the law
      3. the judiciary interprets the law when there is a conflict (just as one example, if someone is accused of a crime but they say that their actions don't meet the definition of that crime, then the courts will decide whether it does, or if someone claims something is unconstitutional, the courts decide whether that's true)
      if the other two branches don't like a judicial decision, the legislature can just write a new law that overrides the judicial decision. for example, imagine there is a case where someone is discriminated at work because they have dyed their hair purple. they go to court and say "my employer isn't allowed to discriminate against me on the basis of my chosen hair color" and the court says, no, hair color isn't a protected class under federal employment law. if Congress thought hair color should be protected under federal employment law, then Congress could amend existing laws to include it.
      or, if the issue was a constitutional issue, Congress could amend the constitution to address it.
      it's a little more complicated with the executive branch because, given its role as the one that implements and enforces law, it doesn't have a direct answer to laws it disagrees with, but the president does have significant influence over the legislative process and creating policy.

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for example, when the court overturned Roe v Wade, Congress could just be like "nah fuck that, we are going to make a law that protects access to reproductive health care" or Congress could even amend the constitution to include reproductive health care if they wanted to. SCOTUS couldn't do anything about that.
      (I have a whole rant about how bad Roe was as a legal decision and how everything should have always been framed as a 14th amendment equal protection issue in the first place if anyone is interested)
