  • Yellow Leaves in Hydroponics is a sign of nutrient imbalance in your Hydroponic Grow System. With Hydroponics, plants are completely dependent upon the nutrients you supply so it is important to recognize the signs of nutrient deficiency quickly so that you can correct it before too much irreparable damage is done to your plants. I have grown hydroponics tomatoes, cilantro, peppers in the past and they have always grown great. I always use the General Hydroponics Flora series. I never adjusted the PH before. This time I got a kit and tester and adjusted it to the desired range between 5.5 and 6. This time I am getting the yellow leaves. I am just going to go back to my old ways and leave it be..

Yeah I would just go back to what was working in the past. I've had mixed results when trying to adjust PH so I too have stopped doing that. As they say, if something is working don't fix it.

Very informative video. What were your ph and TDS before and after adjusting your nutrients. Did you throw the old water out and start over? Thanks for your help.

My PH is usually around 8 being on a well. TDS was low, around 90 because again, our well water with the filter took out a lot of the TDS. I always toss old water out when I restart any new grow or refresh an old grow.

Hello Dear Great informative videos ..I am just wondering what is the temperature in your room ? Cos I am using the kratky method too, but I always get my plants root rotted ,my room's temperature is 25C / 77F.. keep the good work ..

Lettuce and Spinach like it cooler so I find they sprout better between 64-68F which are the temps I try to keep my room at. They can grow in warmer temps, but spinach is especially temperamental and I can't always get it to spout when my house warms up to 72F in the summer.

Could also be a nutrient lockout due to pH being off that would also affect nutrient uptake causing deficiencies

Yes, that could have been the problem too. Great idea! It was easy to fix when I changed my nutrient reserve which would also have fixed the PH.

I am growing some micro dwarf tomatoes and they are doing amazing. Recently I have notice some yellowing on the tips of the leaves right around the time they started developing the first set of tomatoes. It’s usually towards the top of the plants. Could this be a calcium problem? I usually only put about 2.5 ml of calcium per gallon. I’m using Cal Mag

It's worth checking if Cal/mag will improve this. I've also noticed that if I have too much Cal/Mag it can cause leaf burn which looks brown along the edges of the leaves, but if it's yellow, I would try adding Cal/mag first to see if that fixes anything. Also, note that most Tomato formulas now do not provide proper cal/mag so usually you have to add a regular dose of it when you're starting your plants as those formula are used primarily for the later fruiting stage when you need cal/mag lower to promote fruit growth.

Awesome. Unfortunately for me, i had one out of 6 various types yellow but it's too late to fix it i believe but i must say it was a very short veg compared to my dirt.
Still, I'm now convinced a recirculating 1 reservoir system is the easiest way, i tried just DWC and 4 was far too much trouble to change water weekly.
I'm so over it unless i can find a true affordablec rdwc. DutchbBuckets ate badically the same thing, more labor yet they also arent very affordable. It's all gravity fed which is nice so very easy changes compared to tons of individual buckets.
I do not know all the details on how those Buckets work, just that they are great as well.

Yeah I too found it difficult to change water weekly, especially when my plants became full grown, but in non-recirculating systems, I can usually get a month of growth in the beginning stages without needing to change the water and then I just re-add nutrient water already premixed as needed in the later stages. If my grow is only 2 or 3 months total, I can usually get by this way without needing to do a full water change. The key is to set it up properly with the right mixture of nutrients the first time.
This particular grow was using a different nutrient mixture than what I usually used on these plants and this is why they ran low on cal-mag. So I just boosted that and everything turned out well for me, but I did catch it early and that is key!

My cherry tomatos and my pepper plants are only grown with grow lights. If you're plants are turning spindly and yellow (versus new growth being yellow and veins are dark green like hers are) your light isn't strong enough. I use Mars Hydro TS1000.
Cheap lights can be the problem and be warned that the "watts" listed on them is usually bullcrap. The Mars Hydro TS1000 can run (right now) around $110, while the cheapy lights you can easily pay that much when you buy several and end up with a lot less plant lights for the money.
The TS1000 will have a whole range of prices from $102 to $160, just keep checking Walmart and AMZ and you get it at a good price on sale. I paid $108 at Walmart in June of 2023.

True lights "can" cause yellow, splinley growth, but in this example, when I added more Calcium Nitrate, my plants improved without changing my lights. So in my video example, it was a nutrient problem, not a lighting issue.

I'm doing an experiment with hydroponics and my plants' leaves are becoming yellow and starting to dry up. Can I add more nutrients for then to become better again? (I'm using fenugreek plants) Thanks for your help.

You can always try adding Cal/Max to see if it helps but if they don't look better within a day or two, I would clean the water out and refill with new nutrients.

From my experience growing vegetable hydroponically...yellow leaves also because of lack of lights...what most plants need is the real sunlight....especially the morning sunlight for some reasons...you can try to grow in a place out of sunlight and putting under sunlight there is significant difference ...the one under sunlight will grow faster and normal...while lack of lighting will grow yellowish and thin.
Of course under sunlight you need the clear transparent roof to prevent from the rain falling into the hydroponic system.

    • @GreenLivingOffGrid
      @GreenLivingOffGrid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, that is true, especially when you're working with many different types of plants. In my case with my leafy greens, it doesn't seem to matter if I use my daylight bulbs or sunlight. I've had them growing in my greenhouse with no additional light and seems I get the same results either way, as long as my nutrients are in balance. In this case with my video, I changed my nutrient reserve and everything turned out great.
