That’s actually the correct pronunciation. I’m assuming the reason so many American saxophonists mispronounce it is to try to be more “linguistically authentic” while missing the mark. Some do this with habanero and pronouncing it like habañero to attempt to make it sound more “authentic” even though in Spanish it’s still just habanero.
