    This is a fabulous telling of this tale. Beautiful art. I love the limited animation; it allows the illustrations to stand out. Good to hear the story in the original language, good to have subtitles for those of us who only speak English! Wonderful, do more!

      The pumpkin King I was pissed that they made his mum look like a bad person on Moana. 😒

    • @Lppt87

      The pumpkin King in this story? She cried for him and trow him in water because she tough he was dead. In Moana it was horrible, she trew him in the water alive... I think it was normalizing abortion for little kids... That was the vibe it give me.
      I didnt even know the story of Maui but it made no sense for me for me when I was in the cinema watching Moana, I tough it sounds more like an abortion than trowing a baby in the sea. It seems I was not so far from truth, he was not a baby, he was supposed to be a stillbirth.

    Please slow down subtitles in future videos. They pass too quickly for me to read without pausing and replaying several times. Thank you for making them large enough to read without glasses.

      When watching TH-cam, you can click on the settings icon (like a round gear) and slow down videos.
      That might help.

    This is a beautiful story. I am very interested in mythology around the world, because it tells a lot about how the coulture works where it comes from. This story tells me that, heritage and family bonds are very important in this culture. Is that right?

      Yes very important, the main reason for our ta moko (tattooing) is displaying ones geneology and heritage.

    she sucks as a goddess... how do you not know your kid is not dead. she must not be that powerful if she couldn't revive him and she's disrespectful cuz she just tossed his ass in the ocean without a proper funeral. She told the water "Here! Take care of this for me." Who is the dad?

    • @Goiriath
      @Goiriath 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe he was dead. He was a trickster, and made the same kind of mischief as the unquiet /incorrectly honored dead, so it's nice of implied maybe he was a bit of both.
      In any case, he left the womb too early, but the sea is like a womb from which life and the land come from.
      Her hair, her topknot was magic, which isn't clearly mentioned in this animation, so she gave him her greatest magic, and in that magical hair, in the womb of the sea, and by giving him to Tangaroa, if Tangaroa also blessed him (which he did), he had the chance to grow until he was big enough to survive, which he then did.
      It was a desperate act of magic, that only might work.
      It's got some similarities to the tale of Taliesin, which is a Welsh myth.

    • @Goiriath
      @Goiriath 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      And who his dad is, is another story.

    • @teata646
      @teata646 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      she does not suck as a goddess its like me saying you suck at being a person and she didnt know if he was alive because sometimes there are hot springs in the ocean and they heal but also tangaroa nursed him

    • @vajeye-nar6172

      His mother was not a godess. She was human as was his dad Makeatutara.
