    Finally headed out (Sunday 19/6/22) to TopRyde for a BanhMi and yes, it lived up to all the hype ! We were served by the owner and she gave us free sample tasting 😋 From we where we live it was just over 1 hour drive. On arrival the line for the BanhMi was long , very long, we were 50th in line. It took 1 hour 20 mins until we got to the counter. They told us since a recent Instagram went viral the line grew every week to try out the BanhMi’s

    I would never ever visit this place again! I went there and waited there for almost an hour to try their roll after watching this review and had to leave without a bahn mi because the staff were so rude
    The fat lady shouted at my face in front of customers to just wait or leave while my bahn mi is being made by one of their new 'trainee' while she served other people who were behind me in line before me

    • @The08seng
      @The08seng 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Suhl
      To make accusations that I shouted at in your face in front of other customers is a big call. Yes you also wrote a google review today to call me names and to complain about a new trainee… a human being who is actually trying their best getting out there looking for work.
      Why do you feel the need to constantly body shame me? I’m not here calling a skinny Asian…. You choose to call me chubby on your google review and here you decided to up it and call me FAT … I would much appreciate it if you called me by my name … CHUBBY KIM or FATASS kim ( considering I got a bbl and hoping people would notice)
      You can complain you have the right to ! But whatever you do make sure it’s the truth and not your exaggerated lies !!!
      I would never shout at anyones face and ask them to leave …. You see We are a small family run and owned bakery we appreciate all our customers and the time they take out of their day to patiently wait for us and still be kind to us and all our staff.
      If your honest you should ask yourself why are you so determine to constantly bring up my size to constantly put down someone new who is training?
      The fact was people after you were only ordering 1 roll. Yes our trainee is slow because I told her it’s OK for her to go slow but make sure the order is right considering you ordered 3 rolls.
      Your google reviews Suhl is all 1 star reviews with you complaining about how hard life is for you! The only time you have a 5star review is when you received freebies….. I don’t believe in giving freebies to people who feel entitled and think they are better then people who work in customer service!
      I notice you also deleted your google review after my response! Luckily for you I screenshot your review along with my response and posted it on our instagram page @toprydebakershouse
      I hope anytime you start a new job people will treat you better then the way you treated my new staff today then they way you pointed in my face today, I hope people will be more kinder and understanding to you!
      call me what you like shame me how you want at the end of the day it’s my body and I’m happy with all my curves I’ve never been a skinny Asian like you but I’m ok with that.
      So please remind yourself that we are all equal human beings trying our best everyday you want happiness we want happiness you want us to go faster making your roll we want the same hence why we had trainees
      I can’t give you freebies but I will give you this
      Being a kind human being is more rewarding then one who is not. If you post about kindness and positivity make sure you are an example of it !
      Kindly
      Chubby kim

      This comment about Top Ryde Bakers house is just a reflection of yourself. Don’t assert your negative energy on to others because you’re having a bad day. It was your decision to stay in line and you still walked away with a bahn Mi.
      All the staff have shown nothing but dedication to their work and love and respect to their customers. If you know them like I do, you’ll know that they are amazing hard workers. Don’t go bringing the success of people down because you’re not happy where you stand in your life.
      Also, to deliberately go out of your way to put someone down by judging someone’s appearance that has nothing to do with the situation, just goes to show that you as a person need more love in your life.
      Be kind! It cost nothing! You might want to try that next time! :-)

    Trust me when i say, i have tried my fair share of pork rolls in Sydney these past 4 years since moving from the Central Coast. Good on you for sharing your journey!!! I really enjoyed Top Ryde's Banh Mi. Heard rave reviews, and I was pleasantly surprised that they were right. Def would go back there. My recommendations to you would be- "Kenny's" on Oxford st. He has quite a filling, tasty, crispy pork roll that is worthwhile, and it's right next to "Mr Crackles" pork roll place too if you have a bit more money to spend. If you want something a little different that you dont usually find at Banh Mi bakeries, then go try the stewed chicken Banh Mi at "Empress" bakery in Kingsford. I used to add egg too for a brunch fix hahaha it's well worth the trip...at least, once covid gets lost. All the best with it!!!

    I just tried this banh mi. It was quite enjoyable to eat. The pork belly was tender and the crackling was crunchy. The rolls were packed with meat. I also had the char siu roll, but is a bit too sweet for my liking.
    Is this the best pork roll in Sydney? To me its a No. Why? Their banquet crust was too thick, dry and hard and the inside of the banquet is dense. This style is more similar to a dinner or a western baguette than a vietnamese. Vietnamese Pork roll isn't a vietnamese pork roll if the bread isn't fresh, light and airy. Also, adding extra things like grill onions, fried shallot really take the freshness and balance away from Banh Mi. Sometimes adding more stuff doesn't mean better. Vietnamese recipes have been refined for hundreds if not thousands of years. So by adding more you really need to understand why you are doing and still focusing on the concept of balance. Don't get me wrong, it is still a nicer meal, so don't skip this place when you are in the area!

I was only going to try the chinese bbq pork... but i waited 45 minutes and thought i won't come back in a while, i tried the crispy pork as well. The problem is the wait... there were 15 people in the queue with 3 people making rolls... i still waited 45 minutes... it's kinda ridiculous... but then when i got to the counter, others were ordering 4-6 rolls each... I wouldn’t say the best because it’s not very traditional. Nhu Lan in Melbourne is better but these day I can’t justify the amount banh mi increased in prices. I rather buy 10 worth roast pork and plain bread 🥖 and feed my whole family.

    Loved this video! I'm salivating and can not wait for my next trip to sydney so I can stop by. Can I ask What type of pork is in the original? Is it just like a pulled pork. Also what was the sauce they used? I thought she said soy sauce but I thought classic sauce was hoisin?

    • @timotron100
      @timotron100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don't use Hoisin in banh mi bruh. The usual condiments are sliced chillis, chilli sauce, maggi seasoning, mayo & pate. Pulled pork is an American bbq meat also lolol. The usual meat fillings are nem nuong, shredded chicken, siumai, pork skin, char siu, sometimes sardines, cha lua and other viet cold cuts of meat.

    • @SydneyFoodBoy
      @SydneyFoodBoy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for watching GMacc! The original uses 3 different cold cuts of pork, think of it a little like Vietnamese ham. Usually soy sauce and sometimes a little bit of sesame oil is used. No hoisin and pulled pork on a classic banh mi!

    Back in 1995 doing my apprenticeship in Melbourne, there was a Chinese Restaurant in Broadmeadows that had dine in, drive through and had live stand-up comedy acts including Rodney Rude- such a great place!
    Their sweet roast pork (Char Sui) was so incredibly flavoursome as an entree that I asked if they could make it as a main course.
    A week later and it was on their main course menu and it became a tradition for my friends and I to dine in for their main sweet roast pork.
    27 years later and I still dream of that Char Sui.
    Having it on a Bahn Mi is something I simply must do now.

    I love banh mi's. I remember when I first tried them when I lived in Girrawheen. There is a shop near where I live now that makes them but they are more "Aussie" style. I grew up around many Vietnamese Deli's and bakeries. I guess when the French ruled they brought there baking and bread and maybe there beef for pho??

    • @SydneyFoodBoy
      @SydneyFoodBoy  3 ปีที่แล้ว
