Good idea but tesla is proggrammed to work with the autopilot for a few minutes i belive, if it doesn't feel the hands of a driver on the wheel for a few minutes it will give a warning, two warnings and the car will stop and turn on emergency lights

I've had gearheads ask me about what happens if a kid threw something at my screen while I'm driving and stuff like that. So it's good to have an actual answer and not just an assumption. I'm honestly surprised how well the screen held up against a sledgehammer.

The touch screen doesn't control the motor and functions, it's pretty unusable without it but there are absolutely no control electronics built into the touch screen

No, it's purely a display. That single wiring harness he disconnected? Yeah that was just feeding power and video signal to the thing. All the computing power is done with the car's ECM located somewhere in the belly of that thing, not on a cheap display on the dashboard.
As others have said, its just the display, but it could have been worse if he damaged that wiring harness. But the display did hold up better than I thought it would have.

I wonder how much less broken stuff we would have had it not been for youtube and other platforms.
I've had gearheads ask me about what happens if a kid threw something at my screen while I'm driving and stuff like that. So it's good to have an actual answer and not just an assumption. I'm honestly surprised how well the screen held up against a sledgehammer.

Legitimately good to know i honestly have wondered about how durable these displays were and how hard they would be to replace. 1500 bucks isn't all that bad ither it looks to be more than just a display
No, it's purely a display. That single wiring harness he disconnected? Yeah that was just feeding power and video signal to the thing. All the computing power is done with the car's ECM located somewhere in the belly of that thing, not on a cheap display on the dashboard.
That's actually a bit more durable than I thought. Makes sense though for longevity plus functions, even if the display is "basic".
As others have said, its just the display, but it could have been worse if he damaged that wiring harness. But the display did hold up better than I thought it would have.
This should be no more than 100 bucks. Laptop screens are like that amount, it just looks exactly the same..
@@placeh0dlerr Laptop screens aren't that durable, though. Throw in that it's a touch screen, add in labor and the Tesla Tax, and $1500 sounds about right. $4k would have been insane. I don't know what dude bro was thinking with that.
