Age never worries me-Voice is my love and Somalian Musician honestly are hidden and may God open them to the world to see!!!!!!!!!!!!. I and WE will find you soooooooooon....sure!!!!!!!!!!
This is the first time im being exposed to somali music, and its so beautiful. Im eritrean and we've actually more similarites with sudanese than ethiopians, especially eastern Sudan. Much love to my somalis out there. :)
Yeah there's one ethnicity in eastern sudan that would fall in line w horners (esp the east) but the ppl we're most similar too are for sure in eastern ethiopia/djibouti since a lot of these ppl r somali or they have very similar through interaction/same origin
But Somalis are not Ethiopians, There is a Somali dominates state under Ethopian Adminstration but Somalis are their own ethnic group look like other coshitic in the region more like Sudanes speacilly the north regions and they shape Djbouti, Republic of Somali Half os Ethopia northern Kenya and my be you can get them in Ereteria it self.
Ahmed Khalid they are nice people I have many friends they are nice people love my east African brothers and sisters same as our other African brothers and sisters from the west too
The first two songs is 1987 and 3 song is 1990 I have to say we somalis are the bast musicians in Africa and we win a lot of competition in Africa and Middle East god bless my people 🇸🇴
Let me know if this EarStimulation series is of interest to you all and please share any suggestions for future videos. Thank you to the subscriber who sent me these songs. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to these songs:)
+The Habby you should see the ethiopian rock band that covered this song on youtube type jano band diriyan they do songs with some somali lyrics sometimes
I am glad you enjoyed our music. I always gravitated towards habasha music as well. Diriyam by Khadija Kalanjo was shot in mid 1980s during the new year eve. Yes, Kalanjo (which means beauty) she was beyond Beyonce for Somalis during that time lol. Kisses and hugs
When I lesson the last song everytime it makes me cry because we have been fluid our country because of the civil war and the song talks about how rich my country is
Hi,sister my name is shafei my father from Somalia my mather from Eritrea gindac Tigre I listen those songs is classic Somali songs the first one singer here name is khadija qalanjo the second one here name is faduma kasim the therd one his name is zulfa and I like those songs l live in Norway Oslo and I'm sorry my English is not good thank you so much
Unbelievable, you have chosen three very popular and well known songs by three amazing singers, who were the very top singers in 1980s in Somalia. First song is sung by, yes, Khadiijo Qalanjo (your second pronunciation of her second name is correct. It is Qalanjo, not "Qalango" and is pronunciated as it is written.) She and her band (Shareero) are singing about a nomadic cultural song. This song came out around 1987/88. It was very, very popular and Qalanjo was one of the most beloved singers of that decade in '80s. The attire they are wearing is called 'guntiino', traditional Somali women's clothes. The snake-like necklace she is wearing is called 'kuul' in Somali. I heard Ethiopian national TV channel frequently used to air this song. Legend has a visiting African president in late '80s asked Qalanjo -- as she was popularly known -- to marry him. She refused. He was mesmerized by her beauty and voice after she sung at an official ceremony welcoming him to Mogadishu. He was the president of Chad at that time. Second song is by Cabdullaahi Sulfa (Abdullahi Sulfa), who was the Michael Jackson of Somalia in from 1985 to 1990. His songs were unique and very, very popular. Beloved by the youth of mid to late '80s. This one particular song you are listening is called 'Duufaan iyo Dabeel' (also could be spelled Dabeyl). It is personally one of my favourites. The very words of the song you are listening in the clip is, with its rough English translation: *Dambi daad kaama qaadee (Sin cannot be washed by (even) the flood) Dulmi Daa'inkey daah ma saaree (God does not cover (hide) injustices/oppression) Dad iyo duur mala isku deeyee (You can't let people and jungle mingle) Dareenkaa lahaawee* (Keep your feelings) In rough English translation of this part, it might possibly lose its meanings; however it is a wonderful song in Somali with deep meanings. Third song is a very powerful nationalist song, sung by the late Faadumo Qaasim HIlowle. She was, like Sulfa, top two or three female singers in the 1980s in Somalia. She had a very soothing voice, beloved by generations of Somalis. This particular song is called 'Dalkeygoow' (Oh, my country). She first sung it in 1993 at Addis Ababa, host of one of the first Somali peace conferences. Many famous and well-known Somali singers went to that peace conference in the heyday of Somali civil war. You can find a clip of this song from that conference on TH-cam.
Wow! Thank you for that! I didn't choose them, a very wise and well rounded subscriber chose them and recommended I listen to them, particularly because they sounded similar to Eritrean music I've used in my videos. I'm happy that he recommended these songs because he chose a nicevariety of them to represent Somalia. Thanks again!
OMG! You correctly articulate it. Especially Khadijo's music with the naked laces had bn even has been frequently televised on every tv music programs here in Ethiopia. Am really nostalgic to DIRIYAM music among other east Afr musics (Eritrea Ethiopia Somalia SUDAN). I guess DORIAM music meaning is abt drum or DURBAN.
thanks my sister for sharing with us the rich words of somali songs, somalis are people of poets . I love Eretrea and its people long life for all east african people.
Tears roll down my cheeks whenever I listen to the last song. It really has so much meaning and carries a lot of memories. It emphasizes the natural resources that God has bestowed Somalia and the severe/critical situations that Somalis having within and around the world.
The first one is pricing somali cultural second one is love song he is crying 4 his beloved and wow the last one is pricing beauty of somalia and how somali pple dont get it that somalia is a pridace on the earth.
I used to have an Eritrean supervisor who loved Somali music, knew all the lyrics to the songs. I thought that was fascinating . We, Somalis love Eritreans as well.❤
The happy, thank you first, and the person who sent you songs, i do listen the east african music, what i love about you is, the massage you are sending to the region, beyond the music, thank you.
The last song by the late Faatuma Qaasim (May Allah have mercy on her) was quite emotional. As she suffers from a painful distress caused by being away from home. She recounts how the vicious civil war in her home country had forced her to flee for her life. The arduous journey she had to make in search for a safe haven. And the hardships she has to endure as a refugee. Indeed, the song is too long to write down, but the clip you just played goes like this: "O my country, your land is rich in resources, O my country, your breeze is so sweet, To wander around the world begging strangers, To become a stateless person and end up in a refugee camp, Was never my choice but a necessity".
the first song is praising the country and the culture, the second song is a love song, the song is called duufaan iyo dabeyl by zulfa, while the last song is called DALKEYGOW by faduma qaasim.. dalkeygow means "o my country" she's talking about the the problems refugees face outside and the resources of our country. If im not wrong the first two songs were sang somewhere in the 1970's 80's while the last one i dont know when it was sang
I red some comments, most of friends they wrote ''Somalian''when they want to write something about citizens from Somalia also the channel owner used all the time somalians but that's incorrect. You have to say ''Somali'' instead of Somalian. Also if you want to mention Somali citizens as a plural say ''Somalis'' not Somalians. Now the upcoming friends will get my point. Thank you
I've been collecting records for a long time, and coming from Minnesota, a location with a large Somali-American community, I'd often find myself selling my punk and hardcore records in order to buy Somali records, mostly 70s Qaraami and what not. Some of my favourite music in the entire world!
i am older than you but back in days there were so many eritrean people in Mogadishu .... this is how you could pronounce her name... raeal name is Qalanjo but you could say kalango
Yes, third one is so heart touching😢 it is all about the war and conflicts. It says, my country, you're one of the beautiful country in the world, and the reaso I fled is the conflict but it is not necessarily I have left without reason or I hate you. They sang at the first Somalian peace conference which was held held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in early 1992
Eritrean music is beautiful especially during liberation time music's I love it very unique. you're right I like old songs even the Somalis. great Thanks.
I am glad my country girl has such a beautiful taste for horn african music. I equally appreciate music from our region and beyond and hopefully will share some links for you to enjoy.
Same here I find my self listening to the old school music be it Tigrinya, amharic, english even some Indian and Arabic music, the older the better. I just feel there was more soul in, it genuine and not so superficial. One of my favorite is Kiros Alemayo .
This video is awesome, I checked out some of the somali music you reacted to and some more. It made me like my culture even more, it's beautiful. Khadija has become my icon now 👏🏾 I would like it if you could react to more classic somali music :)
Thank you very much for listening our Somali songs and also culture songs I recommending for those who are talking about political issues forget about past We Africa we are brothers we are one my sister thank u very much again
I love the second and third songs it's sound like Eritrean Ethiopian from the 90s .and the beauty about Somali song is so deep even if u don't Understand it ,it will make feel some type of way
Thanks. I realy enjoyed how you presented this clip. Even though you were showing Sad Songs yet we have been unforgettably entertained by the joy in your eyes, happiness. God bless Eritrea. The first song (by Khadija) - Dirian - was popular in Somalia in the early 80's.
Oh my God I was looking for this songs long time ago please send for me the names of song exactly because I mean both of them I love them oh my God I was just used to be listen with my grandfather thank you my dear I appreciate that
veery nostalgic waaaw, i can see you appreciated the first song and she was wonderful the best voice there at the time. my favourite somali love song is ajasha daman by saado cal.
thank you for pointing me in the right direction as the amount of East African music is massive and similar as you say, i think of it similar to Hindi Bollywood music today is so homogenised but the sixties and seventies was definitely the golden age for original tunes and lyrics for popular Indian music. it shocks Indian people when an English white guy gets up to sing, and play flute and Indian drums and crack jokes at functions. Hopefully I can learn enough Tigrenia to entertain the locals here. One thing i wish i could do is the wonderful head movements i see on the Habshi music videos. Maybe you could give some lessons. please ...
The first song is drum song, Khadijo-Qalanjo (the beautiful Khadijo) is saying: O drum make noise and make it loud so a people of very distant places can hear you.....
Too bad they didn't send you the classics Magool, Khadra Dahir, Hasan Adan, Zeynab Cige, Sado Ali or Tubeec. The ones you listed are mostly listened by southerns. Most of somalis won't even understand the words because, the accent and words are extremely limited to very small geographic area in Somalia.
+Somali Drama They sent me songs that sounded similar to Eritrean music I featured in my previous videos, I don't think they meant to exclude any region of Somali. I'd love to hear those artists as well. Please feel free to send me a few of your favorites you'd like me to listen to and I'd be happy to do a video on that as well:)
+Somali Drama stop trolling. if you dont listen these songs go and watch but dont mislead her by giving her your favorite artists. She liked the songs and they are the best.

One funny fact qalanjo in somali is called female elephant
if you know the meaning of the last song you would cry
Someone actually commented with the English translation and I actually did cry because it reminded me of the situation in my own country:(
When I lesson the last song everytime it makes me cry because we have been fluid our country because of the civil war and the song talks about how rich my country is
Yeah
Hi,sister my name is shafei my father from Somalia my mather from Eritrea gindac Tigre I listen those songs is classic Somali songs the first one singer here name is khadija qalanjo the second one here name is faduma kasim the therd one his name is zulfa and I like those songs l live in Norway Oslo and I'm sorry my English is not good thank you so much

Do you have any recommendations for good Somali songs?
Unbelievable, you have chosen three very popular and well known songs by three amazing singers, who were the very top singers in 1980s in Somalia.

Dareenkaa lahaawee* (Keep your feelings)
In rough English translation of this part, it might possibly lose its meanings; however it is a wonderful song in Somali with deep meanings.

Indeed, the song is too long to write down, but the clip you just played goes like this:
"O my country, your land is rich in resources,

To wander around the world begging strangers,
To become a stateless person and end up in a refugee camp,
Was never my choice but a necessity".
the first song is praising the country and the culture, the second song is a love song, the song is called duufaan iyo dabeyl by zulfa, while the last song is called DALKEYGOW by faduma qaasim.. dalkeygow means "o my country" she's talking about the the problems refugees face outside and the resources of our country. If im not wrong the first two songs were sang somewhere in the 1970's 80's while the last one i dont know when it was sang

This video is awesome, I checked out some of the somali music you reacted to and some more. It made me like my culture even more, it's beautiful. Khadija has become my icon now 👏🏾 I would like it if you could react to more classic somali music :)

The last song is talking about somali refugees and how to love your country the female singer was died Rip
one love sister , enjoy somali music
thank you for pointing me in the right direction as the amount of East African music is massive and similar as you say, i think of it similar to Hindi Bollywood music today is so homogenised but the sixties and seventies was definitely the golden age for original tunes and lyrics for popular Indian music. it shocks Indian people when an English white guy gets up to sing, and play flute and Indian drums and crack jokes at functions.
This SOMALIAN music reminds me my childhood time in ETHIOPIA
Too bad they didn't send you the classics Magool, Khadra Dahir, Hasan Adan, Zeynab Cige, Sado Ali or Tubeec. The ones you listed are mostly listened by southerns. Most of somalis won't even understand the words because, the accent and words are extremely limited to very small geographic area in Somalia.
+Somali Drama They sent me songs that sounded similar to Eritrean music I featured in my previous videos, I don't think they meant to exclude any region of Somali. I'd love to hear those artists as well. Please feel free to send me a few of your favorites you'd like me to listen to and I'd be happy to do a video on that as well:)
region of *Somalia
+Somali Drama stop trolling. if you dont listen these songs go and watch but dont mislead her by giving her your favorite artists. She liked the songs and they are the best.
The lady who was wearing the snake Nickles her is Saado Cali and the song name is Cunaabi
