Arranged marriages are always about politics not feelings, especially when court life is involved. Example - she needed to be married off because of her status.
His wife was a snob from the get go. Because she was born with a higher social status, she automatically assumed she would control the money.
She basically told him he was going to be her slave. Later she seems surprised to realize that he not only didn't love her, but didn't like her as well.

@@kristinesharp6286 Agreed, Ruyi said all who live in the Forbidden city are pitiful. Ling Yunche is one of the most pitiful of the show. He deserved happiness, but never got it.
