Great video! Looked like great company and everyone was enjoying the trip. I've always wanted to do Half Dome, but I feel like I'm getting more intimidated as I get older. Was it difficult to make it up?
It wasn't too strenuous doing it as a backpacking trip. Only around 2000 ft of elevation gain for the day. I haven't done the 16 ish mile / 5000+ ft elevation day hike from the valley floor, but can almost guarantee this was the better option! You'll also have a much higher chance getting a permit this way. I would certainly recommend getting a harness like the one my wife used in the video as well. Getting there early was also nice - cooler and less people in the way. Waiting for people on the chains was the most difficult part! Good luck and hope you get to enjoy a hike like this one!
@Just Your Average Hikers Thank you! After watching your video a few times, I actually planned to do the same and was fortunate to get a permit. Appreciate the feedback.
Hi Howard, I had no idea people actually watched this video, never mind that anyone left comments! Hopefully you figured it out, but there's not much water between Sunset Lakes and Clouds Rest except for one small pond in the saddle before heading up Clouds Rest - you can see the pond on All Trails. Before Sunset Lakes, the High Sierra camp may have water, but the streams shown on All Trails were definitely not running.
@@justyouraveragehikers8413 Hey, yeah this is how I found everywhere I went. It's so awesome to find videos of where you are thinking of going. So I ended up not taking this hike and went to Young Lakes instead. I'm sure they are both equally as epic and was a little bummed not to have time for this one.
Nice video. Awful noise for music. I'll Never understand why some backpacking video are scored with obnoxious mechanical techno dance loops in such beautiful, serine Yosemite high country.
That's a great tour of Yosemite, hitting a bunch of the highlights!
Super video. Thanks for sharing. Yosemite is an awesome place. Got my 2023 wilderness permit. Looking forward to my two weeks there.
Great trip!
Great hiking video guys. We are doing this loop in June and this was extremely helpful to watch! 👍
Thanks! Glad you liked it

Hey so I'm going on the Cathedral Lakes hike and beyond in mid July. Is there a good water source between the lakes and Clouds Rest?

What were the night temps?
Not too bad when we were there. High 40s at the worst I think.
If you ever do this hike, you better have enough mosquito repellent to kill a horse because the mosquitoes are unreal.
