  • A simple and long-winded review of the Emisar DW4 Right angle worklight/headlamp.
    This model here is the Linear-driver version with 4500K Nichia 519a LEDs. Though it's still not my favorite form factor, I think this is a great light overall and definitely worth considering if you want to try a right-angle D4V2
    You can purchase this light here:

    It's super nice to have this option for people who need to be able to wear it on a headband and have both hands free. I use this light everyday with 4x W2s. It shouldn't be compared to straight lights as they aren't an option.

    I hope Hank will make a 21700 version of this. The problem with the top switch is you can't really grasp the light further down the body and maintain control over the switch. Forcing you to have hand position much closer to the head which leads to a toasted hand.

    Great review as always Lux! I watch your videos even if I already have the light being reviewed or already am not interested in said light. That says something about the quality of your videos and your opinions. As someone else also said, if doing ramble style table top videos like this means more videos than please keep on with this format and save the special videos for the lights that you love most.
    Also to your point about standing this light and also sticking it to vertical surfaces to light stuff below, that's exactly how I use this light. I got mine in E21A 5000k 16x Mule and it is amazing! It's 4800 lumens of pure natural light that fills every inch of a space.

    Awesome review!
    I've been using mine primarily as a headlamp while working on my other lights, as well as various other electronic projects and I've found that it feels balanced on my head. I also don't have any issues pushing the button, but both of those may have something to do with the fact that the light is angled down slightly for my use case. I put my thumb and middle finger right on the heatsinking grooves of the head and push the button with my index. No slippage going on there!

  • @liamjewell62

    Thanks for this review! You knocked it out of the park as always. I've had my eye on this light for a bit (hopefully as a replacement for my fc11 that I use to explore abandoned places), but I haven't seen a decent review of it until now. I'll prob opt for smt else. The main reason I wanna upgrade from my fc11 is just for higher sustained output. I find 300L to be a little low in some cases, and I'm looking for a headlamp (so I can keep my hands fee) that can sustain around 450L for extended periods of time, without getting uncomfortably hot.

    I think this gets more compelling as a headlamp with a 18350 tube. I wore it full-size for a day and it was just too much. If I had a better head strap or the shorter tube, I think that would have made all the difference. The light quality compared to my other headlamps is no-contest. The 519a’s are beautiful and bright, even with the boost driver.

    I really wish it wasn't such a pain to get in and out of the headlamp holder, it takes a good 3-4 minutes to do that.

    I think this affirms that:
    1. This is the right angle/headlamp for me.
    2. This is *not* the right angle/headlamp for family members not into flashlights.

    I got a DW4-18350 with 519A tint ramping for headlamp use. It's nice, but could definitely be a lot better:
    - It's difficult to fit into a headlamp holder because it's so thick.
    - Should be smaller and lighter in general.
    - Would be better with centered LEDs in a straight line along the side of the tube.
    - Would be nice if the button was on the side instead of the end.
    - 519A, even when tint-mixed, looks a bit green.
    It's well-built and it's my favorite Anduril headlamp, but as you said, there really isn't much competition. What I'd really like is a completely different design.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I'd love a headlamp with centered LEDs and Anduril, it would be a very unique and compelling option. This DW4 is probably way cheaper to produce but it's just an awkward design.
      While I'm not super interested in 14500 lights, if Hank ever makes one a headlamp version that could be really cool as well, it would probably work a little better on the head as long as the shorter runtimes are alright.

    I have d4v2 519a 4500K Linear 9A+FET this is to hot for me. I dont know, maybe I need the same light but only with Boost driver. There is many versions of Bosst drivers, or it is only in one version? And i have 10622 optics. Is the 10621 much thrower, than 10622? I like my ZebraLight Sc52w L2 OP, but it is only AA or 14500. Can you say something abot 10621 on Nichia 519a? I want D4v2 519a 4500K Carclo 10621 Boost driver. Is this version will be much thrower and cooler, than my version of d4v2? Or I need to try another version of Leds or optics, or drivers? Boost driver is more efficient than the Linear 9A+FET ever if I use my Linear 9A+FET at lower brightness levels? Thank you

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Boost driver is more efficient than linear at every level. There is only one version of the boost driver.
      The 10621 will be throwier, but not significantly so. Dedomeing the 519a LEDS will provide even more throw, similar to XP-L HI. If you do that, it will drop CCT, so 5700K 519a will be more like 4500K when dedomed.
      However, the D4V2 jut isn't very throwy no matter what you do, it's always going to be a pretty floody light. SST20 4000K will throw more but the best option is probably to get a D1V2 if you want more reach.

There are a lot of people who have never used them but are big enough (and arrogant?) fools to have a lot of bad things to say about mules, but I’ve seen quite of few of them in forums who are total converts once they gain firsthand experience. Luxwad was almost honest enough in the video to make it clear he doesn’t use flashlights for work but he ventured judgement anyhow, sadly. @@katebloggs8243If you want colored emitters, such as red/blue and/or white. A flood/throw combo can be useful if you're doing a job, say maintenence outdoors, where you're needing great up-close and even lighting on your work while still having the ability to see a bit further into the dark. A domed 519a (especially with added DC fix) and W1 mix would be serviceable in that scenario.
      I still think you'd be better served with a floody headlamp and a throwy handheld however, but everybody has their own wants and needs. The Wurkkos headlamp accomplishes the same thing more effectively and at a lower price.

    Nice review.
    I think you need to use the short body tube and never push the light. Not sure if the short body fits in that holder.
    I think the dual channel would be cool with it. Maybe red and neutral tint.
    For me I never go heavier than 16340 on a headlamp. I’d rather have the high power in my hand.

      @@LuxWad I ended up ordering this to try because I just find that the emisar D4V2 I have is just somehow a bit brighter than everything out there. I have the boost driver in mine but it is still very bright. I just found out that you can use the auxiliary lights to indicate voltage which will be huge to have the visual at work. I am currently using a combo of the H300 high cri on my head and the firefly PL47g2 that I stick on the stuff I am repairing. I think for daytime use I prefer 5700k and the nichia 519a. 4500k just didn’t cut it for daytime use. I do however much prefer about 4000k for nighttime and I prefer the sst20 over the 519a 4500. How’s that for rambling?

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@katebloggs8243Honestly, it really doesn't matter. Both 144AR and 519a have an Ra9080 value, meaning they reproduce reds equally well (or at least they can, depending on the bins used, which is variable and up to the manufacturer). There are tint differences depending on CCT, but the eye will compensate for that.
      As both are effectively the same, I do not envision a practice where the difference between the two emitters (with the same CCT) could affect usability.
      The DW4 can be specced with different emitters - if color reproduction is paramount, get the Nichia E21A, they offer superior reproduction to either of these models.

      Can it handle a whole shift, or do you find it going dead before shift change? I'm thinking the boost driver would be best for a dedicated work light, but having the turbo of the linear driver would be useful as well. What options did you choose, and why?

      I got the hs41 sorfirns headlamp, it takes a 21700 and the battery life is something like
      Moonlight 🌙 29 days
      Eco 150 hours
      Low 11 hours
      Medium 3.7 hours
      High 3.1 hours
      Turbo 3 hours
      I love it, I use medium, I just carry an extra battery in my XTAR PB2SL
      It's my first and only headlamp, so I have nothing to compare to, but I like it, some people like luxwad here say 21700 make bad headlamps, but I forget I'm wearing it
      The holder is a silicon with the loops like in this video, I agree they are not great, I don't k ow what the alternative is tho like I said my first headlamp

      @@katebloggs8243 I respect the opinions of anyone who likes it, but stand by my statement that this is not a good headlamp. After using several headlamps for work and recreation over the last couple years, the faults of this light have only grown more apparent: it is unbalanced, uncomfortable, hard to use, and doesn't perform at the level I want (linear driver model). This also remains the least popular of the headlamps I loan out. A different strap could improve it, but is not worthwhile in my opinion.

    No instruction manual, no spare O-rings, shallow knurling, the color come off after short time, poor build quality, small companies with poor quality control. Lots of minor problems. Hit or miss products. Don't jump on the hype wagon. It's a huge gamble, not worth it.

    I got one from jl hawaii with sst20s 4000k im a big fan of 90° lights. Close up it has terrible carwheeling on the margins of the beam, which is a minor annoyance for me as the main body of the beam is still very useful and i like the light. maybe the frosted optic might help with the beam margins??? Maybe try some nichias as i have a d4v2 with 219a emitters 3500k and it has an Impeccable beam.
