A small nit, but their scale is set to read pounds, not pounds and ounces, so 8.4 pounds is 8lb 6.4oz (0.4 * 16). So their scale is dead on with yours. Be careful on the difference between decimal pounds and pounds/ounces.

Great guitar Colin! I love my 2022 Les Paul Standard 60'. I checked the 50' too, but I prefered the neck profile of the 60'. Even though the quality is very good, my guitar tech pleked it (it's an other machine that Gibson uses and takes more time) and made a real bone nut (also made with the Plek Machine) and it made it even better. Enjoy your new Les Paul! Odd thing with your neck profile. If you like it to play, I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm not a Gibson expert but I am from a background in carpentry, cabinetmaking and machinist so I believe it's light because the mahogany body was closer to the source of heat in the kiln used to season the wood before it is shaped by CNC machine but I could be wrong.

Really nice, and sounds very rich. I remember buying my first Les Paul, the Standard was just a hair more expensive than the Traditional and my inner cheapskate would not let me buy a real Standard. So I ended up with a lovey Traditional, still in love. The sound. I have a fat neck 50’s style and it’s very stable to seasonal temp and humidity changes. A solid guitar. When you have a room full of guitars the Les Paul will always be the big fat round and rich sounding guitar. You’ll know when you need it for contrast. Hard to escape it.

Gibson Les Pauls vary in weight due to the different densities in the wood. Two pieces of mahogany cut to the same shape can have vastly different weights due to differences in density. As far as the neck shape, CNC machines will carve the basic shape, but the final sanding and shaping are done by hand. Whoever worked on that neck created the final shape. BTW, there are a number of Les Pauls with asymmetrical necks including the Moderns, Traditional Pros, Classics, and a few others. I have a GT with an asymmetrical neck as well as a Trad Pro V and a recent Classic with asymmetrical necks. I think you have a keeper.

Les Paul has individual differences. There are also differences in models and parts. If it's the same model and the same pickup, I think weight has something to do with it. When you first pulled it out of the case I instantly assumed it was a 60"s standard. The neck was that noticeably thinner to my eyes. I believe your correctly assuming Gibson has changed the profile slightly. It's excellent mate!

Ok ive calmed down, well you discovered something new that online sellers need to include, that is neck profiles...as well as detailed photos of such, if they want to sell worldwide, I think its a must if you can't get it in your hands. The feel and build of it is everything, you've proven that changing hardware and electronics can put a good bones guitar right on the pitchers mount...

To answer your question near the end. The Gibson Les Paul Trad Pro V has an asymmetric neck profile and body is weight relieved. So perhaps some shared DNA with this model. However, I think more likely whoever did the final sanding maybe sanded a little too much on one side and caused that asymmetry. Not a bad thing at all if it makes the neck more comfortable to play. 😎

That tarnishing is at least worth a phone call. No way a NEW guitar should have been sold without that being mentioned/shown in the pictures. I've purchased 3 new guitars (two Fenders, one Epi 59 LP) that were new but listed as "used-mint" or "demo" because they had some sort of cosmetic blemish(s). But they were mentioned in the description and the price was reduced. And with Sweetwater, there were detailed pictures of the blemishes.

Congratulations! You now have and own a Taylor Swifty/13 December guitar; where the neck and body were joined together on the 13 of December 2022 ― the 347th day of a non leap year ― and she is light, at 8lbs 6.4oz !! My two best sounding Les Pauls each weigh in at 8lbs 6oz (warmest sounding) and 8lbs 8oz (crunchiest sounding) respectively. Production Les Paul Standards made at the Gibson Plant in Nashville, Tennessee typically takes about 13 working days to complete ― give or take a day...

That looks like a beautiful example of a guitar that would be cherished by its owner. The top is unique enough to give it solid looks and ID character and an owner fingerprint but what really caught my attention was the detail in the carving and the alignment of the pickups knobs carve even the pick guard if you so choose to reinstall it. If the neck feels good its a keeper I had a similar experience with a Tele and it was possibly the best new one that I played. The sound is real good through your Princeton which is what I use to welcome a new axe mainly because they are honest.

Regarding the odd neck profile differences. I, too, have experienced the same thing with the same Std 50s LP model, albeit a goldtop. I bought one that had some finish issues, so I exchanged it for another that had a badly placed pickguard, which prompted another exchange. I finally landed on the one I have now. It's not perfect, but I've come to accept that from Gibson and didn't want to bother with the exchange hassle anymore. Anyhow, the first one with finish issues had a slightly slimmer neck. The next two had a slightly chunkier profile. I perfered the slight slimmer one. It was still a proper chunky neck, but I think the carve was better (to me). The other two feel more rounded. They're CNC'd and then finished off by hand sanding. Humans, being imperfect creatures, surely ones sanding job will vary from another's. It's just the nature of the beast. But I definitely experienced the same thing you did. It's not much, but us guitarists can feel it. Cheers!
