It’s sad Sonic has to put up this cocky attitude façade but deep down he’s just as terrified as his friends are but he can’t show it because they all look up to him and this was one of the darkest arcs I’ve seen from the Sonic series. It’s not very often or rare that anyone sees this side of Sonic.
This comic is now my head canon for how Sonic truly felt during the entire zombot outbreak. While it was clear he was beating himself up for what happened, especially in issues 23 and 24, the plot after that focused more on the events leading to resolving the outbreak versus Sonic coming to try to accept what had occurred indirectly because of him.
Sonic doesn't even know just how at fault he is. Eggman became evil again when he touched Metal Sonic, *through my teeth* after Starline's shock therapy; *normal again* and Sonic was the one who had Tails reactivate Metal Sonic and let him get away. All Sonic and Tails know is that doing so allowed Eggman to repair to full strength; and the only other person who knows about them reactivating Metal Sonic and letting him go is Tangle, whom Sonic told. Overall, Metal Sonic is the only one who knows the whole story.
Amy has a talent of knowing how to talk to people in the situation like Sonic.
I Love how Sonic felt all that remorse and How Amy Comforted Him. This Comic was Awesome.
I get that Sonic didn't want to hurt Mr Tinker, but it's one thing to give him a new chance, and another to completely abandon him in some random distant village. Just because Starline's actions couldn't have been foreseen, doesn't mean it wasn't irresponsible to leave him alone there.
It's right to stick to your beliefs that anybody can reform, but reform comes from LEARNING from your mistakes, not forgetting them.
What mistakes, though? What mistakes did _Mr. Tinker_ make that he had to learn from? Ultimately reform is about having a dangerous individual become fit for regular society, Eggman became Mr. Tinker and was no longer a threat as far as Sonic was aware.
And the comic in this video missed a very crucial point, in that locking up Mr. Tinker would have changed nothing given Starline's warp topaz. The only sure-fire preventative measure would've been to kill Tinker while he was at his least dangerous.
No one can be a perfect hero with mistakes or failures Sonic when a hero makes a mistake or fails at something they don't just give up and forget about it, no they go forward and learns from mistakes and failures, that is what makes a hero a hero remember that Sonic.

love this ohmygod I really felt the emotions and though I haven't read any comics, I am familiar with this robot infection, if that was the right thing to say. To have Amy comfort and lend a listening ear to Sonic, owhhh that was just heartwarming. and to whoever did the voice acting, yall are amazing bringing out the emotion and stress in the characters. much love to you

This is amazing keep it up 👍 The zombot arc was my favourite. It showed that the Sonic series could go dark when it wants to. Wow sonic is heavily haunted from this event.
I just read through the comic of the Zombots and he did NOT fail hell nah! He held on their till he just was- HE WAS TIRED. SONIC WAS TIRED. SONIC. Bruh he more than a hero
Metal Sonic became a problem again, Eggman is back, Belle lost her father, the Metal Virus happened, the Deadly Six were brought to the planet and later killed people during the Zeti Hunt arc, Kit and Surge got screwed over, a forest was dehydrated, Surge set it on fire plus caused a traffic jam in Central City AND injured many of its people in her attack on it, and Eggman has now built an ever-expanding life devouring city. All bad things, all that could have been prevented had Sonic left Metal Sonic to rust. He DID fail. He couldn't have known about Starline, but he COULD have known that letting Metal Sonic get away was a bad idea. Metal snapped the chains binding him like they were pieces of string; he could have hurt someone! It was pretty stupid of Sonic to think, even for a moment, that Metal would even CONSIDER peace as an option; he never should have had Tails repair Metal, let alone let him get away.

Sonic, you gotta let that stuff out every now and then. Holding onto it really takes a toll on you over time. You're fast, but the future will always be a blank space. Everyone has a pen ready to write the future. Sometimes the ink will splatter and we won't see it coming. So, as part of one of the latest boss themes that came out states; "No matter the outcome, you better accept it."
Take the situation and tackle it head on, like you've always done.

Let me make it clear, Sonic's mistake WASN'T being merciful on Mr. Tinker; it was having Tails reactivate Metal Sonic and let him go which led to Mr. Tinker becoming Eggman again! Starline himself eventually admitted that Metal Sonic gave him what he needed to do it. Trouble COULD have been foreseen for THAT; not what happened, but it was STILL a general bad decision. You just don't DO things like that! Also, I wish IDW Sonic felt HALF this sorry for what he did. I don't hate Sonic, but sometimes you have to admit and accept that you screwed up big time, then pick yourself up and resolve to make things right.
And he was he admitting that he was lineint that led to the Metal Virus but thanks to Tangle she gave the same speech Amy is giving making him demotivating him to keep on running.
It's both, in the comics he actively beat himself up over both not killing Tinker and letting Metal Sonic go. Both were reasonable decisions, as he had no reason to believe anyone would want to change Tinker back to Eggman, or that Metal would be able to find Mr. Tinker on his own, since he couldn't do it even when he was Neo Metal and in command of Eggman's armies and fleets.
Also Sonic's guilt is one of the primary plot points of the metal virus saga, I'm not sure how you missed that.

Also, Sonic let a fully evil Eggman get away at the end of the Metal Virus Saga, STILL thinking he may come around eventually, meaning that Sonic learned absolutely NOTHING from it!

Sonic only let Metal go because as far as he was concerned, Eggman was gone and unable to repair him. He had no clue about Starline, or that Metal would somehow find Eggman.
Say what you will, but Sonic at least had the brains to de-weaponize him before releasing him.
And as for still letting him go, this is meant to be one of Sonic's greatest strengths: sticking by his beliefs, no matter what. It's made clear in Issue #44, where despite Zavok promising Sonic his mercy would be paid tenfold in violence, it still didn't budge him. It's why Zavok respected Sonic in the end, because he never gave up on what he believed in, which was freedom.
Sonic could have succumbed then and there and finish off Zavok. But he held strong in his ideals, and that, in my eyes, is what makes him so respectable. It's part of his core character that revolves around freedom.

Metal Sonic was STILL perfectly capable of hurting someone! He was tangled in chains and he SNAPPED them like DENTAL FLOSS! He also sped off at not inconsiderable speed!
As for the rest, that's just it! He WASN'T sticking by his beliefs! Those beliefs weren't his own; they were planted in his head by that stupid old goat in Windmill Village! Sonic never valued the lives of unrepentant mass murderers over those of his friends and innocent people! Sonic never cared about rehabilitating Eggman, let alone Metal Sonic! Sonic never was so STUPID as to believe that prioritizing the freedom of the evil means threatening the freedom and safety of everyone else, and he most certainly wouldn't have gaslit his friends or push away their concerns so casually if they disagreed with him!
It wasn't until he found out that Starline had made Kit and Surge into living weapons and remembered just how self-serving Eggman is that he snapped out of it; Issue 61 confirms it! He trashed Metal Sonic and left him; AND he pretty much LET Shadow seemingly kill Eggman, openly denying the Doctor's cowardly pleas for help!
Sonic never believed in this over-leniency crap before Issue 5 and he certainly doesn't believe in it anymore! He is now staying true to himself, FOR REAL this time! Throwing innocent lives in danger for the sake of protecting evil has NEVER been a part of his character; and people who say it's "cOrE tO hIs PeRsOnAlLiTy" are only fooling themselves, just like Sonic was that whole time! He no longer believes in preserving the FWEEDOM of unrepentant mass murderers, and he's better off for it!
If he is already infected with metal virus, and Amy hugged him, that means he made the situation worse by infecting amy
