    I love the way Wayne directs the rehearsal and communicates with the dancers. Rather than making demands he asks questions and is open for a dialogue with the artists, giving them autonomy in the process of creation. It’s wonderful to see this kindness and consideration from an artist I admire deeply. Inspiring in action and output.

      I understand your feeling and I tend that way myself but I would encourage anyone to view the Paris Opera Ballet in, say, "Sylvia" by John Neumeier th-cam.com/video/Sm2DjBxQjb8/w-d-xo.html
      In fact, anything by John Neumeier is good (his "La Dame aux Camélias"). Try also the following: Akram Khan's "Giselle"; José Martinez "Les Enfants du Paradis"; Roland Petit - "Coppelia" and "Le Jeune Homme et la Mort"; works by Angelin Prejocaj, Ilia Jivoy, Valentino Zucchetti, Carolyn Carlson, Crystal Pite, Cathy Marsden, and recently deceased contemporary choreographers such as Pina Bausch and Maurice Béjart. Also other companies such as the Dutch National Ballet. There's lots to explore!

      classical ballet is classical ballet, although waynes work is great, it will never replace the older ballets

    • @Jayjen35
      @Jayjen35 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bubbybets9336 You know that when ballets like "Swan Lake", "Giselle", "Sleeping Beauty" and "Romeo and Juliet" premiered *other ballets* premiered at the same time. They didn't exist by themselves. BUT the vast majority of those ballets are forgotten. In that exact same way this ballet and its contemporaries will go through the same process. "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"," In the Middle Somewhat Elevated"and this ballet may well be some of the very few that are remembered.
      They will JOIN those well remembered and loved ballets - not replace them.

    I do not know if Mr McGregor ever danced classically, but I cringe whenever I hear that he has choreographed another work. Maybe he created this so that we can see Mr Watson on stage once again, which is always a pleasure.

    Well I will just be blunt. Why are ballet companies insisting on doing these quircky modern ballets which are not really based on ballet technique? You are forcing these dancers to do very contorted movements which were never intended to be seen in ballet? Why? Cause its ugly. Here we have a premier ballet company that has marvelous dancers and their bodies are being abused by doing these contortions and really ugly movements. I dont find it edgy, I dont find it pleasing to the eye. If Petipa saw this now he would probably scream STOP. Ballet is meant to be beautiful, pleasing to the eye and create a lovely sense of excitement and beauty of lines. I have tried appreciating this stuff but to no avail. There is some modern stuff i like , for instance some of Balanchines, or MacMillians, but honestly the rest seems pretentious . I also think it encourages injuries and shortens the career of dancers. There is nothing more beautiful then Sleeping Beauty or Giselle. This is what ballet was meant to be. I dont want it to be modern,I want it to be ballet with all its splendor and beauty of music, costumes, lines and athleticism, Plie please.

      Ballet companies have to evolve though years to survive, sometimes is good to revisit classics but sometimes is good to see something new. We just can get stuck what we learn when we study, we have to be more open minded to different possibilities and opportunities and Wayne McGregor has been doing his style for the Royal Ballet for the last 20 years and has had many successful ballets that had help to defined the company to this century.

    • @TengoUnaGata
      @TengoUnaGata 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Also, I think ballet dancers are more likely to get injured with classics than contemporary choreography due to more relaxed movements and in classic there's a extrict discipline and perfection to follow.

    • @AthelstanEngland

      No one writes classical music scores anymore so I think that is a big part of it. To me... not that I know anything about ballet... much of this only seems quirky when you hear the music.

    • @brigidm6279
      @brigidm6279 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They do it because everything evolves and broadens and that's what keeps art moving. Ask these dancers and I'll bet they'll tell you they love having it in their repertoire.

      There are some modern choreographers that create beautiful or interesting works.
      Wheeldon, Ratmansky for example.
