I've been subscribed to your channel for ages and got hooked on your Aquamarker paintings and I bought a few Aquamarkers. Love the blue hydrangea in particular.
Thank you! That one was fun; one of the first I did with those markers! I have a companion piece, a pink hydrangea that I've been meaning to do for awhile now... 😄 Just need to find the time, thanks for following 🙂👍
Nice watercolour set! Winsor and Newton pro watercolours and Schmincke watercolours are in my top 3 favourite watercolour paints but for very different reasons. W&N offers excellent transparency and delicacy, whilst the Schmincke are rich and creamy.
Hi, I love the idea of rich and creamy watercolours 😄 TBH I should check out alternatives because they all must be different in some way, I guess 🤷🏻♂️ I've heard schminke mentioned before, so I might check them out. You know, I finally added yupo paper to my shopping basket 🤣👍 thanks for watching
@@gee355Art Oh you will 100% love the Schmincke then, I promise you. Not sure where you are located but look at Jacksons. You can get a 12 pan set very reasonably priced. It’s the Horadam version if you need their professional range, (the Akadamie is student grade.) I started with a 12 pan set that had room for 24 and slowly added 12 more pans. Good to hear the yupo is in your basket, now add Schmincke, not that I’m enabling or anything 😇
@@Kyomiibrown 😄 there's worse things to enable than art supplies! Thanks for the info on Horadam Vs Akademie versions too, it will be good to know when I go shoppin' 🙂👍
Hi, I'm the same 😄👍 it's always cool hearing the different materials and national backgrounds of all these products, from Sakura to Caran d'ache and Copic to Schminke! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for the information and explanation of why these are your favorites. I have to say I do use tube paints and recently bought pan colors but I am not loving them. Considering buying a better set which might just be the ticket. Again thanks for your video and I look forward to your next one.
Hi, I can imagine going to pans after tubes could take some getting used to! I really do think that if I'm going to do larger paintings, I should probably invest in tubes though. I can't see how I'll get the coverage with pans - it would take ages to mix them 😄 let me know how you get on with another set. Thanks for watching!
Love hearing what others enjoy working with! I used to use alcohol markers back in college - - - this video makes me wanna dig them out again! Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you! I really do recommend the W&N ones but i know there are so many out there right now to choose from. I also think they just brought out some new ones called 'Promarker watercolour' and I have no idea what they're like yet! Good luck with them 👍🙂
Thanks for sharing!! I love your work and have become obsessed with your channel! I'm a scratchboard artist and find that some of your work is similar - just creating it in a reverse manner. I'd also like to see more detail in how you create graffiti lettering. Maybe show how you develop each letter. Thanks again so much and KEEP CREATING!
Hi, thank you! You're not the first person to mention the actual process of drawing the graffiti letters so I might have to look at that for a future video. I could also have a go at drawing something on black paper with white pens, that would be cool 👍😎
@@gee355Art Oh man, white on black paper would be awesome! I wonder...would that mean finding a white version of the Pentel pocket brush pen? Wouldn't that be fantastic!! Drawing graffiti letters would really be remarkable. Not many peeps doing that right now and you are SO GOOD at it. Biggest fan!
@@rcl-crafter8 I have a bunch of white gel pens which I could use but none are a brush tip, might be cool to see if I can find one... I'm a novice with the graffiti, to be honest, but I do love it! I can have a look at the drawing side of it but I think it would look very different to the pro's 😄
That was really informative and clear. Windsor and Newton should definitely sponsor you! If I'm painting something where I want to display the original I try to use my Sennelier and more light-fast paints. But I still have a sentimental spot for the old Reeves set I learned with in secondary and a set of vintage paints, españoleto, which were my first tube set and you can't seem to buy them anymore.
Hi, I totally get this! I still have a set of Caran d'ache watercolour pencils from 1988/89 🙂 I let my daughter use them now but I got all fussy when she mixed them all up 🤣🤣🤣. Maybe I should try doing a picture with them one time? Thanks for watching 👍🙂
I'm in absolute agreement about Winsor and Newton Pro Brushmarkers! Prismacolor Premiere is a very close second. WN's line tends to be brighter while Prismacolor is more muted and earthy. And again, I'm in agreement about Copic markers - the speckles ruin them for me! The only advantage they have is in the refillable ink, but if you're only going to refill them with ink that gives you speckled patterns in your finished work why bother? 🤣🤣🤣 I also love WN Cotman but to be fair I haven't tried many other watercolor brands, I'm still very much a marker person but I hope to branch out. Thanks so much for this review and for your work. I look forward to seeing more from you.
Thank you! I'm so glad you're in agreement about the W&N markers - their ink is so good!! And that copic speckling drives me crazy 🤪 but I do feel bad when I have to throw away a used marker. Someone suggested we email W&N to encourage them to make their markers refillable 😄👍I'm down for that!
I love the Sakura brush pen too. Had one for years and it's never failed me. I can't believe the synthetic bristles present such a fine tip and that it's kept that tip for this long. I find it more controllable than a traditional brush (which probably speaks more to my level of skill than the quality of the brushes) but I'm not dissatisfied with the range of line weights I can get out of it. Only minor gripe is that it can run a bit dry if moving quickly or filling in a large area of black. For the latter I tend to spare it and reach for the Dr Martin's anyway. I like watercolours and markers. Or should I say I like the idea of them. I have trouble getting the results in my mind's eye, but again, skill levels. I tend to do a little better with opaque and dry media. (Fantastic paintings in those media, by the way. It's stuff like that that makes me try to keep going with watercolours) Favourite art materials? I have stacks of pencils, including a handful of mechanical and clutch pencils. My go-tos are Pentel 120s, Pentel P200s, and the Faber-Castell TK 4600. I love the waxy Derwent Drawing pencils and scratchy Conté crayons. I'm pretty happy when I have a metal wax carver and a packet of milliput in my hands.
Hi, I totally agree with that first paragraph! And I did look at my Faber Castell 'grip-o-matic' pencil and think maybe it should be on the list too. Thank you for sharing those last few lines too, as I often think I'm in the minority because I enjoy playing with a lot of different media! It's great to read about all the art supplies that people like and have a soft spot for 🙂👍
Hi, in my experience, no. I think the watercolour markers pigment is brighter and looks a bit more 'fluid' when you add water. By contrast, I find the watercolour pencils more muted colour-wise with that tendency to feel 'greasy' when applying denser amounts! This could just be the brands I'm using and just my personal experience though 😄👍
Thank you! I'll see what I can do as ive already been told I should try Schminke watercolours 😀 I might have to wait to get these too! Thanks for watching 👍🙂
By the way...you mention "Bockingford" watercolor paper. I'm sorry I can't tell but is it a "hot press" or "cold press" you use? Smooth or somewhat rough? You mentioned that W&N watercolor markers work well on it so wasn't sure. Thank you so much! You are adorable!!
Hi, good question! I use the Bockingford cold press from St Cuthbert's Mill for the watercolour markers and the hot press for the watercolour pencils so far. If there's a better paper for watercolour pencils, I'm all ears 😄👍 Thanks for watching the channel!
@@gee355Art Thanks so much for the info!! I'm still in the "what works best for me stage" so I don't have a "better paper" to suggest now. But, I'm always trying new things.
I share the same sentiment about promarkers. They were my first alcohol markers and when I got a set of copics, I felt the difference in ink formulation. I don't understand why Winsor&Newton doesn't sell ink refills. Their ink is nice and magical. Could get quite a few bucks out of it instead of constantly pushing disposable art supply mentality into the marketing.
