@@itsConnorCreatesI have to give you that. LOL. Did you look into "recipies" for purifying sea salt just in case there were any other elements that might be bad for you? Even though we know sea water wont kill you exactly, I don't know if there aren't (for ex.) high concentrations of mercury or something else that would be filtered out in an actual seal salt process.
I have been evaporating my own sea salt for years. It is predominately sodium chloride, calcium carbonate, gypsum, potassium chloride, and magnesium chloride, all of which are beneficial to your health. Being a mix of beneficial ingredients rather than just concentrated sodium chloride makes sea salt the healthy thing that it is. Things like mercury do concentrate in sea salt, but do concentrate in larger fish because ultra tiny things concentrate the mercury from sea water, then tiny things concentrate the mercury from ultra tiny things, then small fish concentrate the mercury from tiny things, then medium fish concentrate the mercury from small fish, then large fish concentrate the mercury from medium fish.
makes me realise there is probably no way to make salt from the ocean in a reasonable amount that is cheaper (let's not even mention FASTER) than buying it, except maybe just leaving it outdoors to dry (and then filter again), and that's only if you live close by. i've watched a documentary and the reason it's so cheap, is because, in Africa, whole families are contracted for GENERATIONS to pay an old debt and when people try to help them, even the African countries' government intervenes because their economy would be affected if they'd get paid humane wage (they can barely not die from hunger...). the families often live in the salt mines with no hope of better life:( it's like the whole world is against them
Great vid. For the pepper you can use the Alexanders plant (Smyrnium olusatrum). Its seeds taste exactly like peppercorns! (It has poisonous lookalikes though)

Yes. There are refining processes to get rid of the impurities. You could actually get serious illness from these impurities. I hope you are just faking this.
you took the pan out the oven with gloves on then took them off and picked the pan up? guess it wasn't hot just needed to give the illusion it was. be real not fake
Also fun (salt?) Fact, during British colonial rule in india, they banned locals from producing their own salt from the sea, and instead insisted them to buy expensive British factory produced salt (obtained from the same sea!) for more profits, since salt was something used by all people, regardless of socioeconomic or religious background. MK Gandhi, with 78 of his followers began the famous salt march on March 12, 1930 to 5 March 1930, totalling 387 kilometers (240 miles) from his hometown of sabarmati, in Gujarat state, to the coastal town (and famous salt making hub) of Dandi. He broke the law by making a few kilograms of salt from the sea, his followers (who grew much more from the initial 78 during the march itself) followed suite. This was a part of his larger series of non violent civil disobedience movements against the oppressive british rule, seeing their icon, gandhi, breaking "salt law" millions of indians also started making their own salt, angering the colonialists. Gandhi was soon arrested for this but this worsened situations for the colonialist government, cuz people protested and rioted his arrest. Gandhi was released soon and the dreaded salt law was scrapped, tho the non violent Civil disobedience protests were crushed with police brutality.
Thanks Matthew! Appreciate your kind support! And ya it was a really fun process to try and do, probably never have to buy salt from the store now haha 😆🙌🏻
Can you make sea salt from sea water straight from the ocean? Absolutely. Should you? It's debatable. As others have said, it's not very cost-effective done the way you did it. A lot of the makers of sea salt dry it in the sun because no additional fuel or energy source is needed. However, while it can certainly be tasty, as well as satisfying to make your own, I wouldn't eat it straight from the ocean like that. Many sea salt manufacturers/packagers filter and clean the ocean water first as there are still bacteria and other nasties in the sea that boiling alone may not get rid of completely. While boiling may kill the fecal matter from coastal run-off, ocean life excrement, rotted sea life, and whale sperm, there are still things like broken down micro-plastics, mercury, man-made chemicals, as well as oil and other petrol products left by boats and other equipment that would still be in it. Enjoy!!!
I have this kind of idea: use the heat from ship's engine to separate salt from seawater. The fresh water can be stored for consumption, while the salt can be used to preserve fishes caught 🙂
I think you still need something to do, like refine it to make the salt into smaller piece which the salt grinder does it too, but i believe its better to make it i guess more quality? and to reduce big pieces that somehow enters your food to prevent too much saltyness. I wonder why people buy salt when you can just make one at home for free. I do have to say even though the water is boiled killing all the bacteria im still afraid mold or bacteria can enter the salt and well ruin it, even though salt from bought stores doesnt happen because i am not sure but they probably put some chemicals onto it.
I like how at 4.05 you make it look like you pulled it out of the oven by wearing mitts, but then take them off and hold the pan with your hands all in the same shot. heh, not mad, just wondering if you even noticed the goof?
Now all you have to do is build a time machine and go back a few thousand years in the past when people would trade salt for gold
