- After agreeing to watch over Gotham for Batman, mistress of magic- Zatanna comes face to face with the notorious puppet gangster, Mr. Scarface. But Zatanna's deep seeded fear of puppets renders her helpless. Will Zatanna be able to overcome her pupaphobia? Or will Mr. Scarface have the last laugh?
A WORD FROM CHRIS
I wrote the script for Zatanna back in 2017, and actually attempted to make it back then. But there was a horrible mishap with the making of original Mr. Scarface puppet and he was never completed. Thus, the entire project fell apart. It wasn't until 2 years later when a fan by the name of Michael Terraso inquired about the status of the project. After I filled him in, he offered to pay for a puppet, and that's all she wrote. Within a few days, a Goosebumps Slappy doll arrived, and I customized the crap out of it.
Since so much time had passed, I pretty much had to start at square one again. So I began the casting process and came across Mariah Maison. She was a natural when it came to speaking in reverse. One major change to the script was the addition of John Constantine. Originally I had Artie, Zatanna's agent, but after re-examining everything, I realized swapping him out for Constantine was just way more satisfying. John and Zatanna have a better brother/sister report together, and Heath Harper's charisma as the character was an added bonus.
Another newcomer to Blinky Productions was Della Atherton who played the ventriloquist- Peyton Riley. She took a nothing part and really made it stand out. Her back and forth with the Scarface dummy was straight out the comics.
Filming took place over the course of two and half days, in and around the LA area. Since this was a superhero comedy about a magician, I wanted to keep the music for this movie as robust as possible. I chose drum instrumentals for most of Zatanna's scenes, the Godfather theme for Mr. Scarface, and of course a jazz cover of Sesame Street for the end credits.

Zatanna and Constantine had great chemistry there.

This was a lot of fun to watch! I especially enjoyed the chemistry between John and Zatanna! I hope we see another adventure with them in the future!

Didn't care for the smoking scene, and don't care if it was in character.
This film perfectly shows that John Constantine is the kind of person you'll never want in your life but one you'll always need

I LOVED THIS. I love the clear inspiration from the Paul Dini solo series. I love the Zatanna/Constantine dynamic. The underlying attraction and deep friendship.
I love these two characters. Really wish to them be given more attention & love as much as the mainstream characters.
These films get better and better! I would SO support a feature length film on kickstarter or some such.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this so much this might be my favorite so far! there is never enough of Zatana and Constantine but their chermsrity is one reason I have always loved the characters! You and everyone on this nailed them perfectly in their bond and their personalities :3 I hope you do more videos of them but this would be enough even if not!! Was here for the premier. Great short. I remember first seeing "Zatanna" on "Batman:The Animated Series", but little did I know how much of a part she played in the DC Comics (by way of "Justice League Unlimited" and the game "Justice League Heroes"). Also dug this take on "Constantine", while I consider Matt Ryan the definitive "Constantine", Heath Harper was really good here.

blinky500 I’ve seen a few of your films and I gotta say, you make fantastic short films. That being said, I wanna ask you something. I show aired on the Syfy channel earlier this year called “Deadly Class” it was based off a comic book series. It was canceled, and this pissed off all the fans because this was one of the best shows to ever air on TV. I’m not asking you to renew it, but do you think you could make any short films based off this show? I’m sure they would be great.

Freaking Awesome. Don't know much about Zatanna but I'm loving this so far. The look of the actor playing Constantine is a little off but I can work around that.
This may be an odd thing to focus on, but I'm really glad this Zatanna kept the white gloves - so many superhero adaptations seem to have hatred for gloves (and no fingerless gloves don't count LOL)
i love her white gloves, and i think zatanna considers crime fighting on par with performing on stage.

Simple, but good story.
Saw a lot of Paul Dini’s influence in this movie - liked it.
Actors sometimes do not give you enough expression and emotions, look a bit unnatural for certain circumstances.( this man with the knife at the begging was the nicest mugger I’ve ever seen. )
However, when Zee does her spells, acts like she on stage, show a lot of emotions and when she has dialogues and interaction with Constantine - cinema magic happens! I was fully in the movie and did not notice any problems!
In term of Film Directory, the film is really needs more variety. (I really wish I would make some story boards ideas for you). I can understand problems with filming action, but when dialogue is just talking heads - it is a little bit boring to watch.
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie! You capture a lot of elements that I really Love in Zatanna and the story was interesting to watch. I wish you guys to continue create and grow as artists!

the is a great film i am so surprised they haven't done a film on this dc character yet she was a member of the justice league several movies on batman and superman not one live movie on her she even taught Bruce wane to escape handcuffs when he was younger and handy skill when he is batman

Great job by everyone in this. Matt Ryan would be proud and Zatanna needs to join 'Legends of Tomorrow' at some point. Maybe set up a 'Justice League Dark' story arc and bring back Derek Mears as Swamp Thing.

@Justin Jack If Constantine (2014) of NBC Television didn't was canceled the Zatanna would be introduced in her this series made reference to Zee: the scene of the slate in that is written "EROM NAHT SIHT" (more than this) in allusion to Zatanna who pronounces bring words for that his magic happened.
