@@Phantom-bh5ru literally no, steel makes for garbage armor. there have been more than one case of ar500 plates shattering after being hit with ss193. it weighs considerably more than ceramics or UHMWPE plates without a spall liner, and even more with them, the weight and density of the fairly thin steel plates wears out plate carriers which typically cost more than the steel plate(usually not for people using steel, because those people are poor and use cheap shit like condor). the reason why you don't see why they are not widely adopted is because you fail to understand how armor works. GOST 6A isn't inordinately surprising here. M995 relies a lot on amorphization of strike faces and its passable core to beat the plates. This is why some quotes sat at 50m for beating IV, and then we have IVs eating it at zero. AlO has no such vulnerability, hence the M995 round is relying purely on its lowered velocity, and passable core, to beat a strong NIJ IV+ equivalent.
I've been talking a lot to a buddy, concerning 7.92 S.m.K.H. rounds. I'd love to see that one against modern day ceramic armors. Some tables say that it could go through 20mm of steel at 300 meters (Which i don't really think is true. At point blank, with some mid-tier tank steel, maybe, but at 300 meters, no fucking way.
I really liked the video. I guess this might be the reason why the US is looking at the 6.8 NGSW as even 5.56 AP won't do against modern Russian body armor. It kind of makes you rethink the supposed superiority of the 5.56 over the 7.62 NATO.
This will take a decade at least for adopting the round , by that time Russian will also developed something that can stop a 6.8 mm round. Then US will bring some thing new to defeat that armour It is a cat and mouse game
The point of the superiority of 5.56 over 7.62 NATO was the fact that it was lighter, it was perfect for engagements in the 100-200m range and had wounding characteristics that were very favorable during the COLD WAR, where no one had any type of ballistic protection that rose past modern day NIJ IIa. All that through a rifle that was supposed to be lighter and more flat-shooting at the aforementioned ranges than something like 7.62x51mm out of an M14. It was never meant to out-penetrate 7.62 NATO because there was no need for it to out-penetrate 7.62 NATO.
It's important to note that peacetime and wartime production usually varies. Now I can't speak about russian attitudes towards preparedness, but the US military is infamous for cutting corners in peacetime and then scrambling for old stock when thier new stock fails. Weight has been a perennial problem for the US infantry. Who bitch and complain about the weight of ammo and armor, always choosing the lighter option...up until war actually breaks out, and they suddenly come back around to realize the extra armor, ammo, and heavier gun barrels are absolutely necessary.
What you kind of have to look at though is the difference in Russian military production vs US equipment production. American military equipment is produced by dozens of different companies IE, London bridge, Point Blank, Eagle Industries, Gentex, just to name a few. These products don't always work well with each other. Russian Uniform, armor, equipment is all part of the Ratnik program. That is what is so innovative, it is a combat system where each individual component is designed to work with each other, all the equipment has interchangeable materials that can be mass produced easily, and used to make several different items. This is a way more efficient way to do it than what the US does.
"Weight has been a perennial problem for the US infantry. Who bitch and complain about the weight of ammo and armor, always choosing the lighter option" Have you not heard the phrase "ounces equal pounds, pounds equal pain"? How effectively can you fight when you're humping 100 pounds or more of weapons, armor, ammo and gear? How can you maneuver and avoid becoming decisively engaged at that weight? As you seem to be an expert on the matter, explain how more ammunition and armor will make troops more effective. I'm not talking about "hurr durr more ammo make more shoot," I'm talking about you assessing actual engagements and drawing and articulating reasonable conclusions from it like our military leadership undoubtedly did.
@@georgeplatz8628 That's why they are motorized. There's no reason to be trekking miles through the woods with your entire barracks and armory strapped to your back. They carry what they need, and the rest sits in the truck/mec. When they need more, they go back to the truck. Weight shouldn't be a problem, especially when you're fighting from position to position. With heavy weapon support, men have even less reason to move. You just secure a vantage point, and bomb every target in sight.
Since we are preparing for peer to peer warfare, the U.S army is moving away from 5.56 and testing to adopt a new 7.62 round or a 7.20 round in their new weapons.

NIJ IV allows up to 1.73 in of backface deformation against a block of Roma Plastalina Clay after scraping the edge of the deformation. You have 2 in of backface deformation against a block of undisclosed softer clay. I would say, that is comparible to upper limit of NIJ IV Next time please use NIJ IV standart clay and show us your measuring of backface deformation.
This is nearly impossible for us to accomplish unless using an NIJ lab. The ROMA 1 must be heated to I believe 95-100F then drop certified for 19mm of backface with a steel ball. Not easy to do that out in the field. :(

Very very high quality video. Thank you
well, im glad i bought a .308 saiga. Those incindiary m14 rounds are insane though i never saw one explode in slow mo
1:24 I wonder how you managed to get a plate from the 34th motorized rifle brigade (В/ч 01485).

Your content is incredible.
Then US will bring some thing new to defeat that armour
It is a cat and mouse game
The point of the superiority of 5.56 over 7.62 NATO was the fact that it was lighter, it was perfect for engagements in the 100-200m range and had wounding characteristics that were very favorable during the COLD WAR, where no one had any type of ballistic protection that rose past modern day NIJ IIa. All that through a rifle that was supposed to be lighter and more flat-shooting at the aforementioned ranges than something like 7.62x51mm out of an M14.
It was never meant to out-penetrate 7.62 NATO because there was no need for it to out-penetrate 7.62 NATO.
I'm was very surprised when I heard Neo Scavenger OST!
The US military is watching this with heavy breathing.
Great videos, thank you so much, Oxide

5.56 was made for peer too peer war.
this content is great! on another note XOF vid when? you've been teasing it for a awhile did something go wrong?
Im in love with FAL. Such a beautiful weapon. Even airsoft ones are nice. Have AK-74M airsoft one and i kinda regret buying it... because FAL seems nicer
99% of airsoft "AK-74M" do not even have 5.5mm stock pins. (they're mostly knockoff bulgarian AKS-74s, with a different-looking stock)
There's basically one brand with 5.5mm stock pin but no proper AK-74M details, and one discontinued brand that got it mostly correct.
@@EcchiRevenge i use E&L AK-74M 2nd Gen. Check that because i don’t really understand what you mean so let me know
@@sneakybuddy8084 That's the one with 5.5mm stock pin but no AK-74M features(at least not the proper ones - lack of lightening cuts on front sight block, smooth long collar muzzle brake...etc.; you can only pretend it's a refitted AKs-74 which can technically be called AK-74M)

Well done, sir.
Manganese is used for making steel more bullet proof. So using in ceramic body armor must be the same desired effect. Manganese is also slightly radioactive. ☢️
NIJ IV allows up to 1.73 in of backface deformation against a block of Roma Plastalina Clay after scraping the edge of the deformation.
You have 2 in of backface deformation against a block of undisclosed softer clay.
I would say, that is comparible to upper limit of NIJ IV
Next time please use NIJ IV standart clay and show us your measuring of backface deformation.
This is nearly impossible for us to accomplish unless using an NIJ lab. The ROMA 1 must be heated to I believe 95-100F then drop certified for 19mm of backface with a steel ball. Not easy to do that out in the field. :(
to my knowledge the russian standart allows max 16 mm limit deformation with the rounds the used for test, plus the have requiremnts to surive multiple hits.
beautiful video. russian body armor about the same quality as american level iv so the tungsten m993 still defeats it, but the lightweight 5.56 m995 is almost always stopped.

That stopped m855a1 usually that's got to be level IV body at.or at least.
6a gost vest with 4 plates for sale on ebay right now
man i love this channel
I wonder how the arimid insert would do to stop 9mm alone?? Its rated gost 2 but the kevlar inserts seem thin on these 6b45 vests. Do you have any insight on this? Thanks!
the kevlar of 6b45 is not rated for pistol threats only fragmentation and knife . But in field test the soft armor will stop 9x19 fmj without issue
but is far under gost 2 as any other such body armor
Благодарю за видео!
Aluminium oxide posted by oxide?! Coincidence...i think no
An interesting body armor to test would be boron carbide ceramic, its twice as hard as alumina and its much lighter. Its very expensive however.
It's also more brittle to threats. Level IV alumina can stop 16" M993 AP at 45'. An ESAPI consisting of B4C could not.
@@BuffRANGE My theory is that its less durable overall, but more capable against specialized AP threats than the softer Alumina. The boron carbide armors I've seen all have a relatively thin strike face compared to alumina. It'd be interesting to see B4C tested and pulled apart for comparison to alumina.
@@phalanyx3478 I've only tested 2 B4C plates so far. I do recall the ceramic strike face being thinner which could lend way to it being more susceptible to advanced threats.

Also, the AK12 hasn't really impressed me that much.
Ak-12 is very good because it fixed what ak-74m lacks
